A few days to devote to themselves, to build up a good mood and positive energy, essential allied forces to keep up the daily work of looking after one´s health and wellbeing. Each and every one of us has the right to rest, discover, travel, enjoy free time... that is, to en- joy holidays. This concept is part of what we mean by “quality of life”. In the case of those patients with chronic kidney disease under hae- Vilagarcia de Arousa modialysis therapy, this right cannot be forgot- ten. Actually the contrary should be adhered to, it should be strengthened. Living with a chronic disease can be considered as additional work, one which is full time, and one which requires careful and constant dedi- cation. A daily obligation that often depletes the Hospitalet de Llobregat patient´s strength. In Diaverum, unfortunately as medical specia- lists, we cannot send on vacation the chronic kidney disease, but what we can do is offer our patients treatment options, which will enable them to enjoy a few days off on holiday, leaving their regular worlds behind, finding new ones. Click here to return to index What positive impacts has travelling brought to your life as a kidney patient? Daniel Gallego Zurro, a 41-year-old kidney patient since 1995. There is nothing better feeling than to travel and get in touch with the world. Not only do you discover other ways of understanding life, facing daily challenges, engaging and living, you also learn a lot about yourself. From my travels I have been able to get to get to know other cultures and enjoy unique, authentic experiences. Through it I have met many different people, many of whom are still very important to me; all of this while discovering other cuisines, forms of art, architecture and interesting sites. Travelling provides you with a fountain of knowledge and stress relief; I cannot ima- gine a more refreshing activity for the mind. People often talk about the “pursuit of happiness”, but I personally prefer the happiness brought by the pursuit, this invol- ves travelling to unknown places, not stopping the searching nor the learning which comes with it. The goal is to reach the horizon, which is full of new experiences. Per- sonally, it is much more important what we experience living, than what we possess. Travelling has taught me to enjoy every moment and to always search for new goals. Despite living with kidney failure, I always try to find new trips to the best destina- tions at every possible occasion: whether it be a few days of rest, an adventure or a big city tour. All of these are moments, which allow you to disconnect and take a break from an exhausting routine, and to remind you that life can offer many won- derful opportunities.
