The Vicar will be a leader and enabler who will work to build upon the rich pastoral and community presence in the town and develop new ways of engaging with the growing resident and business communities to develop fresh expressions of Church. He/she will walk alongside those wishing to deepen their faith and understanding of God’s presence in the world around them. The Vicar will work collaboratively with the congregation, the Church School and local organisations. 2. Role Purpose 1) to exercise the cure of souls in this parish in collaboration with the Bishop. 2) to promote All Saints as an open, welcoming church for people from all walks of life. 3) to represent the Church of England in society. 4) to support, encourage and resource colleagues in the deanery and diocese as together we seek to realise our diocesan vision. General Responsibilities 1) To fulfil the responsibilities of clergy as described in the Canons, the Ordinal, the Guidelines for the Professional Conduct of the Clergy and other relevant legislation. 2) To be able to maintain a healthy prayer, work and life balance. 3) To ensure that a high standard of worship, preaching and pastoral care is offered. 4) To develop the ministry of the laity such that all are using their gifts for the common good and to develop a Ministry team. 5) To offer the gospel in a lively and engaging way to those who are both inside and outside the church. 6) To offer a way for people to explore the Christian gospel for the first time leading to baptism and confirmation. 7) To offer clear pathways for young Christians to grow to maturity as Christian disciples. 8) To lead the church in responding to human need by loving service. 9) To participate in diocesan, national and international initiatives to transform unjust structures of society. 10) To seek at all times to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth. 11) To encourage Christian stewardship of people’s time, money and abilities. 12) To collaborate with Churchwardens to ensure the church building(s) serve the church’s wider mission in the community. 13) To seek ecumenical cooperation wherever possible. 14) To collaborate with the deanery in mission and ministry and cooperate in the implementation of the deanery plan. 15) To ensure full compliance at all times with the Diocesan Safeguarding Policy. 4. Specific Responsibilities 1) To embrace the Parish of Wath-upon-Dearne, our heritage and present day and help us to grow in faith and the knowledge of Christ. 2) To lead, teach, encourage and grow the existing parish congregation and nurture people to share their individual talents in different arenas. 3) To possess the skills and experience needed to create and enhance the services and activities we provide. Page 3 of 7 4) To be a good listener and guide, who will work with us to shape and implement the changes needed to enable us to achieve our vision 5) To support and build up the ongoing outreach among children, young people and families, growing a vibrant Church for the future. 6) To engage with those in the 30-60-year-old age bracket, enabling them to explore the meaning of the gospel for them, to bring them to faith and to live out that faith in their daily lives 7) To work closely with the wider community and further develop existing relationships with individuals, families, schools, community projects and residential homes, in order to share the Gospel, commend the love of Christ and draw people in of all ages. 8) To enhance the pastoral care and support that we provide to those living in social and/or economic deprivation within our communities. 5. The appointee will occupy the Vicarage situated at Church Street, Wath-upon-Dearne, Rotherham, South Yorkshire, S63 7RD. 4) Agreed full expenses will be paid. 5) The patrons of the living are the Dean and Chapter of Christ Church, Oxford. Christ Church is in the happy position of being able to support the incumbents of its ninety livings through the revenues of the Dr South Trust, which is able to assist with grants for study, administration and holidays, as well as offering a biennial conference and loans for the purchase of a car. It has a population of approximately 1.2 million people, 140 stipendiary clergy, 174 parishes and 213 churches (at the end of 2013). It covers Sheffield, Rotherham and Doncaster and the subsidiary towns and villages of those areas. The Diocese is led by the Bishop of Sheffield (Diocesan Bishop) and the Bishop of Doncaster (Suffragan Bishop).
