FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D. C., AUG. 12, 1972 --Senators Bob Dole and
James Pearson today announced that 45 Kansas colleges and
universities will participate in the National Direct Student
Loan Program in fiscal year 1973. The institutions will receiv·
loans totaling $4,177,718 to aid 9,493 students~
Federal funds will provide 90 percent of the new capital
contributions to National Direct Student Loan Program funds
and a matching institutional contribution will provide the
remaining 10 percent
Kansas schools receiving over $100,000 were~ Benedictine
College, Atchison, $167,513 for 381 students~ Fort Hays Kansas
State College, Hays, $328,355 for 746 students~ Johnson
County Community Jr College, Shawnee Mission, $146,652 for
333 students~ Kansas State College of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh,
$243,329 for 553 students~ Kansas State Teachers College,
I Emporia, $390,715 for 888 students~ Kansas State University.
Manhattan, $665,056 for 1,511 students~ Ottawa University,
Ottawa, $158,892 for 361 students~ University of Kansas,
Lawrence, $546,123 for 1,241 students~ and Wichita State
University, Wichita, $397 457 for 903 students. (A complete
