For Immediate Release International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge’s Inaugural Visit to Singapore, The Host City for the Youth Olympic Games 2010 4 – 6 April 2008 Dr Jacques Rogge, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), will visit Singapore from 4 to 6 April 2008. This is the first official visit by the IOC to Singapore, since the city-state won the bid on 21 February 2008 as the host city for the world’s first Youth Olympic Games (YOG) to be held in August 2010. ‘We are honoured and happy to host Dr Rogge on his inaugural visit to Singapore as the host city for the first Youth Olympic Games. This will be a great opportunity and I look forward to share more with him about our preparation efforts for YOG 2010’, Mr Ng Ser Miang, Chairman, Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee Board. The Signing Ceremony of the Host City Contract will be held at the Istana, to be witnessed by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. The Prime Minister will also host dinner for Dr Rogge and his delegation. During his stay, Dr Rogge will be visiting various YOG venues such as the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University and the Singapore Sports School. Our students from both local and international schools in Singapore can also look forward to engaging Dr Rogge personally at a Dialogue Session on Olympism, hosted by the Victoria Junior College. Senior Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Community Development, Youth, and Sports, Mr Teo Ser Luck said, ‘The excitement and enthusiasm of our youths for the YOG 2010 is palpable. I am excited as this is a timely and good opportunity for our youths to be able to engage Dr Rogge personally on the Olympic movement.
