Bishop Alumni Center, the home of Georgia Southern University’s Alumni Association, opened in August 2009. The facility is named for the late Dr. Gene Bishop, a longtime supporter and friend of the University who provided the lead gift to construct the Center. Located on Akins Boulevard adjacent to Georgia Southern’s Recreation Activity Center, the Alumni Center provides easy accessibility to alumni and out-of-town guests arriving on campus and is within walking distance of Allen E. Paulson Stadium. The 12,000-square-foot facility has numerous amenities and serves as the designated site for several annual events such as scholarship luncheons, receptions including the 1906 Society Event, a series of festivities during Georgia Southern’s Homecoming weekend, and other programs vital to the University. Many of these events are held in the Alumni Hall, one of the most impressive features of the Center. The focal point of the hall includes a donor recognition wall recently unveiled at the Marvin S. Pittman Donor Society celebration. In addition, the Georgia Southern University Foundation and Alumni Association board meetings are also conducted at the Alumni Center. The Alumni Center houses the offices of University Advancement, which includes Alumni Relations, Annual Giving, Advancement Services, Georgia Southern University Foundation Accounting and the Office of Development. University Advancement is responsible for raising philanthropic support and partners with alumni, friends, parents, corporations and foundations to ensure the fiscal sustainability of Georgia Southern.
