HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 209

A RESOLUTION

To commend the Gallot family for their many contributions to Grambling State University,

the city of Grambling, and the state of .

WHEREAS, Richard Gallot, Sr., Dr. Mildred Gauthier Gallot, and State Senator Rick

Gallot have made many contributions to Grambling State University, the town of Grambling, and the state of Louisiana, and it is appropriate to express a sincere measure of gratitude on behalf of the students of Grambling State University and the city of Grambling; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Richard Gallot, Sr., served as mayor for the city of Grambling from

1981 until 1984; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Mildred Gauthier Gallot served as a member of the Board of

Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System from 2005 until 2011; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Gallot taught for more than thirty-five years as a professor at

Grambling State University and served as the chair of the History Department; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Gallot is the author of "A History of Grambling State University" which chronicles the emergence, struggle, and development of Grambling State University into one of America's best-known historically black universities; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Gallot is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the

Louisiana Historical Records Advisory Commission, the Louisiana Historical Association, the Ruston-Grambling League of Women Voters, and the American Association of

University Women; and

WHEREAS, State Senator Rick Gallot served as a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives from 2000-2007 and was elected to the in 2011; and

WHEREAS, in 2007, Dr. Gallot and Senator Gallot were both inducted into the

Grambling State University Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, Senator Gallot is a graduate of Grambling State University, Southern

University Law Center, and the Senior Executives in State and Local Government Program at the Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure in the House, then Representative Gallot secured the funding for the Grambling State University Frederick Hobdy Assembly Center and continues to be a fierce advocate for the university and the town of Grambling; and

WHEREAS, Richard, Sr., Mildred, and Rick Gallot have been exemplary citizens of the city of Grambling for many years, and they merit the highest measure of commendation for all of their efforts toward making Grambling a better place to live.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the

Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Gallot family for their many contributions to Grambling State University, the city of Grambling, and the state of

Louisiana.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the Gallot family.
