OUR MISSION: The Community of St. Mary, a diverse people sharing a common pilgrim journey within the Catholic Church, committed to following Jesus’ commandment to love God, love neighbors and go make disciples. August 15, 2021 | The Assumpon of the Blessed Virgin Mary Welcome to St. Mary! We’d love you to connect with us! 312 Lincoln Avenue, Woodstock, IL 60098 stmary-woodstock.org Parish Office: Monday-Friday 8:00 am-4:00 pm St. Mary Catholic Church Parish Phone: (815) 338-3377 @StMaryWoodstock School Phone: (815) 338-3598 Text LoveGod to 84576 A LETTER FROM OUR PASTOR Brothers and Sisters, Every year, Catholic dioceses all over United States (and in many parts of the world) arrange for missionaries to visit local parishes and speak at all the weekend Masses appealing for prayers and financial support for their mis- sionary works. This pracce has a Biblical foundaon and has been the Church tradion since the me of St. Peter and St. Paul who visited local churches during their missionary journeys. In those visits, the apostles made pas- sionate appeals for financial aid from the local Chrisan communies on behalf of other churches, especially in Jerusalem (Cf. 1 Cor. 16: 1-3). This ancient pracce brings missionary awareness to the local Church and gives the faithful an opportunity to be a part of the Church’s apostolic work throughout the world. We call this tradion ‘Mission Co-op,’ the cooperaon between missionaries and the local Church. This very enriching mission coopera- on gives the local Church and the foreign missions across the globe mutual spiritual blessings that come as a re- sult of exchanges of culture and faith experience. This year, we are happy to welcome to St. Mary Parish, the Canons Regular of the Order of the Holy Cross, also known as the Crosier Fathers and Brothers, represented by Reverend Zawadi Jean-Marie. Fr. Zawadi will be speaking at all Masses this weekend inving our prayers and support for their missionary work in many parts of the world, especially their ministry through Catholic Educaon of less fortunate children in Congo, Africa. The Cro- siers plan to build a K-12 Catholic School in the Congo that would accommodate 16,000 children, boys and girls, from poor families. The Crosier Order was founded by Blessed Theodore de Celles in 1210 in what is now the Diocese of Liege in Bel- gium. The Order is present in Europe (Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and Italy), North America (United States of America), South America (Brazil), Asia (Indonesia), and Africa (Democrac Republic of the Congo). For more than 800 years, the Crosiers have lived by the Rule of St. Augusne. As canons regular, the Crosier Fathers and Brothers are commied to the liturgy of the hours and Eucharist as service to the Church. Their mission, to touch suffering with hope, is rooted in the spirituality of the Glorious Cross. In the midst of a suffering world, the Cro- siers bear witness to the victory of Jesus’ Cross. The Crosier charism is defined by the following three words: Cul- tus (liturgy of the Church), Communio (community life), and Charitas (service to the poor). As consecrated men who belong to one of the Roman Catholic Church’s oldest religious orders, the Crosiers number 350 members worldwide. The Crosiers in the United States are organized as a Conventual Priory with two locaons in Onamia, Minnesota, and Phoenix, Arizona. In solidarity with the Crosiers, we will have a second collecon for the support of their mission this Sunday while their representave, Fr. Zawadi, is here to visit with us. Feel free to chat with him a er all the Masses to learn more about the Crosiers and their many life-saving missionary acvies. Your generosity this weekend will allow Crosiers everywhere to make Christ more known and loved all over the world through their care for the most poor and abandoned. Let us warmly welcome Fr. Zawadi and respond generously to his most im- portant appeal. In Crist, Fr.
