9 CURRICULUM NURSERY

EARLY YEARS FOUNDATION Gifted and talented pupils are recognised with extension and enrichment activities provided, whilst there is a highly regarded learning support unit for children with mild, early learning difficulties such STAGE [EYFS] & KEY STAGE 1 as those classified as dyslexic. KEY STAGE 2 (YEARS 3, 4, 5 & 6)

At age 6 years, children progress from an infant environment to a more structured junior school day. Emphasis on the core subjects of Maths and English is maintained. Additionally, during the course of a week, the wide variety of subjects, including art, music, French, PSHE, PE, history, geography, science and RE give every child the chance to shine. ICT is taught as both a discrete subject and as a cross-curricular tool to broaden understanding of the world. Subjects largely follow, and in many areas exceed, the National Curriculum guidelines. The children are set by ability for Maths and aspects of English. The curriculum is enhanced by appropriate visits and visitors as well as an extensive range of clubs and activities, sporting fixtures and residential trips which contribute to creative and spiritual opportunities.

Registration is at 08.40 and all pupils should be in their classroom no later than 08.35. In addition Lesson 8: 1.30 – 2.00 pupils in Year 4 have a two nights camping experience in the New Forest. There is a 3 day Assembly: 2.00 – 2.25 residential trip in Year 5 and a five day residential trip to Hooke Court in Dorset in Year 6. Break: 2.25 – 2.45 Lesson 9: 2.45 – 3.10 Lesson 10: 3.10 – 3.45

EYFS has two sessions: The morning from 9.00am – 12.00pm and the afternoon 12.30 – 3.30pm, to allow for free flow activity throughout the day, having breaks when they occur naturally.

11 ACTIVITIES All pupils in Years 3-6 participate in one compulsory extra-curricular activity of their choice per week, and the choices vary each term. Activities include: badminton, chess and board games, JUNIOR DAILY ROUTINE computer imagery, outdoor games and stretch and movement, but these options vary termly.

Additional activities offered to children from Year1 to Year 6 on a voluntary basis include: campanology, , choir, football, hockey, and rugby, junior orchestra & choir (Years 3 to 6) brass lessons for Year 4 and woodwind lessons for Year 5. There are also optional paid activities with peripatetic staff in: fencing, speech and drama, golf, , hockey, tennis and bushcraft. HOUSE SYSTEM The House system further reinforces the strong sense of community within the school with each child a member of one of the four Houses named after local villages: , Chalton, Harting and Nyewood. House points are given as a tangible reward for good work and good behaviour, whilst Sports Day and the House Talent Competition are among the events that are House based and are eagerly anticipated by the children.

The children in Year 6 are given opportunities for additional responsibilities as House, drama, music and sports captains, which enables them to strengthen further the community spirit of the school. MERIT SYSTEM There is a hierarchical approach to rewarding children. House points are given readily for work deemed to be the pupil’s best efforts. Beyond that are Merit Badges which are presented in assembly and recognise good progress, group work and exceptional personal endeavour.

Finally, ‘Outstanding Work Awards’ are given for work judged outstanding at a national level. These are recorded and presented in assembly and listed in the school newsletters. PARENT LIAISON There are two Parents’ Evenings and two written reports for EYFS and Key Stage1 and two Parents’ Evenings and three written reports for children in Key Stage 2. Parents are also encouraged to speak with the class teachers at the beginning or end of the day or by appointment. The Head and Deputy Head of Juniors are similarly available.

The three year programme provides the time required for pupils to enjoy a rich and deep learning experience Note: School buses leave the site at 3.55pm daily that will enable them to achieve the highest levels in the new 9-1 GCSE’s. 20 DISCONTINUATION OF EXTRAS The school requires one full term’s notice in writing from parents who wish to withdraw a

pupil from School Lunches, School Transport, Learning Support or Private Tuition provided by ENTRANCE PROCEDURES a peripatetic teacher. The school reserves the right to charge for this service if the required notice is not received. INSURANCE OF FEES So long as a child’s name remains on the roll, the full fees are payable whether the pupil is in attendance or not and the Governors cannot consider application for the remission of fees in case of absence. Parents may wish to consider taking out insurance against absence through illness. Details of a School Fees Protection Scheme are available on request. INSURANCE OF PUPILS PERSONAL EFFECTS It is the parental responsibility to insure against the loss of personal effects. INSURANCE AGAINST ACCIDENTS The School only accepts responsibility for accidents where the School is held liable in law for negligence. THE IN HOUSE UNIFORM SHOP The school has a Uniform Shop located on the school site which is open all day Monday during term time. Payment may be made by cash or cheque only. Credit card facilities are not yet available. SCHOOL LUNCHES The school offers an excellent standard and range of hot meals and salads each day. There is a wide variety of choice and special dietary needs can be catered for. Senior Pupils opting WRAP AROUND CARE for school lunch must have lunch every day and this is charged termly in advance at the rate currently applicable, Junior Pupils may opt to have lunch on one-five days and are also charged The school offers wrap around care from 7.50 – 8.30am in the morning and from 3.45pm until termly in advance. Pupils are most welcome to bring packed lunches if they prefer. 6.00pm in the evening. There is no charge for the morning for any pupils. In the evening there is no charge for Seniors.
