Greyser [email protected] [email protected] 1 2014‐08‐19 ABSTRACT Purpose – Understanding the Nobel Prize as a ‘true’ heritage brand in a networked situation and its management challenges, especially regarding identity and reputation. Methodology – The Nobel Prize serves as an in-depth case study and is analysed within an extended corporate brand identity framework that incorporates reputation. Findings – The Nobel Prize is a ‘true’ corporate heritage brand (in this case, organizational brand). It is the ‘hub’ of a linked network of brands – “a federated republic”. The brand core of the Nobel Prize is its set of core values supporting and leading to its promise; “for the benefit of mankind”. The core constitutes a hub around which the essential award-granting institutions, as well as the Nobel Foundation and other related entities and stakeholders gravitate. The laureates represent the Nobel Prize track record. The Will of Alfred Nobel, described as “The Nobel Prize federation’s constitution” is interpreted by us as indicating a brand-oriented approach within a network of interrelated institutions and organisations. -

For Immediate Release April 2, 2020 Contact: Anna Domoto 515-453-1401 [email protected] Update – Game sales and interest rates to determine advertised Powerball jackpot Guaranteed starting jackpot amounts & minimum jackpot increases to be eliminated URBANDALE, Iowa – The Powerball Product Group today announced its decision to determine Powerball’s advertised jackpot based on game sales and interest rates. Following the April 8 drawing, guaranteed starting jackpot amounts and minimum jackpot increases will be eliminated, and future jackpot increases will be determined and announced by the Product Group prior to each drawing. Previously, Powerball® jackpots started at $40 million (annuity) and increased by a minimum of $10 million (annuity) between drawings. “These changes are necessary to ensure that ticket sales can support the Powerball jackpot and other lower-tier cash prizes,” said Gregg Mineo, Powerball Product Group Chairman and Maine Lottery Director. “Our number one priority is making sure that the Powerball game can continue to assist lotteries in raising proceeds for their beneficiaries.” The Powerball Product Group announced plans last week to reduce the starting jackpot to $20 million (annuity) and minimum jackpot increases to $2 million (annuity) between drawings. Those changes were scheduled to go into effect after the current jackpot was won. However, due to the evolving COVID-19 pandemic, the Powerball Product Group revisited the topic and decided Powerball’s advertised jackpot should be determined by game sales and interest rates effective following the drawing next Wednesday. “Since last week, more states and cities have asked their residents to stay at home, which has affected normal consumer behaviors and Powerball game sales,” said Mineo. -

Two Pillars of Asset Pricing Prize Lecture, December 8, 2013 by Eugene F. Fama Booth School, University of Chicago, Chicago, IL, USA. he Nobel Foundation asks that the Prize lecture cover the work for which T the Prize is awarded. Te announcement of this year’s Prize cites empirical work in asset pricing. I interpret this to include work on efcient capital markets and work on developing and testing asset pricing models—the two pillars, or perhaps more descriptive, the Siamese twins of asset pricing. I start with ef- cient markets and then move on to asset pricing models. EFFICIENT CAPITAL MARKEts A. Early Work Te year 1962 was a propitious time for Ph.D. research at the University of Chi- cago. Computers were coming into their own, liberating econometricians from their mechanical calculators. It became possible to process large amounts of data quickly, at least by previous standards. Stock prices are among the most acces- sible data, and there was burgeoning interest in studying the behavior of stock returns, centered at the University of Chicago (Merton Miller, Harry Roberts, Lester Telser, and Benoit Mandelbrot as a frequent visitor) and MIT (Sidney Alexander, Paul Cootner, Franco Modigliani, and Paul Samuelson). Modigli- ani ofen visited Chicago to work with his longtime coauthor Merton Miller, so there was frequent exchange of ideas between the two schools. It was clear from the beginning that the central question is whether asset prices refect all available information—what I labeled the efcient markets hy- pothesis (Fama 1965b).
