Rising 7th Grade Summer Reading 2019

Summer reading is essential to maintaining your reading skills. For your Summer Reading this year, you are to read AT LEAST THREE books that are at Middle Grades level or above. Check the books’ levels on arbookfind.com. For one of your books, you will complete a Newsletter (details below) The other two books will be your choice as long as they are in your ZPD range. For each of them, you will fill out a Remarkable Reader Review. I look forward to reading the discoveries you will make about your books!

1. Keep a Summer Reading Log of the books you read this summer. There must be at least three books with all of the other information filled out to get full credit for this portion of the summer reading.

a. After reading the book, design a newsletter for your book. In your newsletter (look up examples on the internet), you must do the following: 1) Give your newsletter a catchy title that is connected to the book.

2) Include an article on the climax (the point of highest tension or the turning point) of the book with a small picture of the event. The article must be 5-8 sentences long and be a detailed account of this section of the book. You may draw the picture yourself, use a computer to generate it, or cut out of a magazine. The article should have a catchy title.

3) Include an article about one of the main characters which identifies THREE personality traits that describe his or her personality and how he or she shows those traits in the book. This article should also be 5-8 sentences long. Include a picture of the person and a creative title. You may draw the picture yourself, use a computer to generate it, or cut it out of a magazine.

4) Include an advertisement for something that has some meaningful connection to the book.

3. For the other two books your read, complete the Remarkable Reader Review sheet that is attached. If you read more than three books, you only need to fill out a review for two of them. The rest can just be listed on your reading log.
