Hamburg Area High school library welcomes changes Sage Bausher - 10

In the past, libraries have been seen as quiet places where lovers of books can go to read in silence. Now, they are changing into something much greater than a bibliophile’s get away, starting with our own school library. This year’s changes to the library have a huge impact on student life. It has several work areas in which students are no longer shushed at to be silent. The library is now seen as a place where students are invited to come together and work on team projects together. Miss McCarthy is now located there and has all her classes there. The newest school year has come upon Hamburg Area High School, and with that, a wave of new faces: the freshmen. They have just recently moved up to the high school, and are figuring out how the school works. “I felt like a fish out of water,” says Logan Krick, “I really wasn’t used to the school yet, but eventually I fell into a rhythm of getting to my classes. The lunches are also really different. Even though the expectation would be that the lines would be short because of the four different lunches, they seem to be longer. Also being able to be on your phone every day is pretty cool.” Although there are students who have had a hard time getting accustomed to the high school, there are also those who have already gotten familiar to their surroundings. Harley Ludy, for example, has already figured out how to traverse the school. “I didn’t have too many problems finding my way around because of my involvement with the music department,” he states,” but it was a bit difficult to arrive on time to some classes because of the distances between them.” He’s not alone, as many students often complain of long treks just to get to their next class. Harley also spoke of the new school laptops saying, “I kind of expected the laptops to be the way they are, but the only thing I didn’t like was the touchpad. It often moves when you don’t want it to, and when I’m taking notes it moves, so I start typing in the wrong place.” That is another common complaint among the freshman. Personally, as I was typing this, I accidentally moved the cursor and began typing elsewhere. As of now, there is no way to solve this problem. Getting accustomed to a different setting can be difficult, but as the dust settles, the hope is that the freshmen find their way in the school.
