RESUMO O propósito deste estudo é realizar uma análise temática e narrativa dos filmes 32 de Agosto na Terra (1998) e A Chegada (2016), que contribua para uma melhor compreensão de Blade Runner 2049 (2017), tomando este filme como ponto de chegada. A análise de Blade Runner 2049 busca compreender as tensões entre um possível estilo do cineasta Denis Villeneuve e a estética do cinema hollywoodiano contemporâneo (BORDWELL, 2008). A metodologia crítica da matriz (BERNAR- DET,1994) é a inspiração para o debate e identificação de elementos de um possível tema próprio aos três filmes analisados. Identificou-se um possível elemento da mi- se-en-scène de Villeneuve, ao qual foi denominado isolamento. O isolamento acon- tece em momentos específicos e possui um papel importante no desenvolvimento da narrativa. Após estas experiências de isolamento, os personagens tomam uma deci- são soberana que os transforma. As três decisões dos personagens após a experi- ência do isolamento estão relacionadas ao tema da maternidade e paternidade. Em Blade Runner 2049, o tema aparece na tensão com as exigências do chamado blo- ckbuster high concept. Para que o possível tema identificado não se traduza como uma abstração sem conexão com a realidade, busca-se analisá-lo sob a ótica do realismo capitalista (FISHER 2018; SCHUDSON, 2013), com referências da análise ideológica (ŽIŽEK, 2011). Deste modo, interpreta-se o tema da maternidade e pater- nidade como uma operação ideológica familiar. Palavras-chave: Análise ideológica. Análise da matriz. Blade Runner 2049. Narrati- va. Temática. ABSTRACT The objective of this study is to conduct a thematic and narrative analysis of the movies August 32nd on Earth (1998) and Arrival (2016) in order to contribute to a better understanding of the movie Blade Runner 2049 (2017), using the latter as a point of arrival. The analysis of Blade Runner 2049 aims to understand the ten- sions between a style possibly created by filmmaker Denis Villeneuve and the aes- thetics of the contemporary Hollywood cinema (BORDWELL, 2008). The critical matriz methodology (BERNARDET, 1994) is the inspiration for debating and identi- fying elements of a possible theme that may be specific to the three movies ana- lyzed. A possible element of Villeneuve‟s mise-en-scène was identified and named isolation. Isolation happens at specific times and plays an important role in the de- velopment of the narrative. After these experiences of isolation, the characters make a sovereign decision that transforms them. The three decisions the charac- ters made after the experience of isolation are related to the theme of parenthood. In Blade Runner 2049, this theme appears in the tension related to the demands of the so-called blockbuster high concept. To avoid translating the possible identified theme as an abstraction not connected to reality, it is analyzed from the perspec- tive of capitalist realism (FISHER 2018; SCHUDSON, 2013) with references of ideological analysis (ŽIŽEK, 2011).     O embate entre personagens e paisagens: a mise-en-scène e o padrão de estilo de Denis Villeneuve The clash between characters and landscapes: Denis Villeneuve’s mise-en-scène and style pattern Ivone Gomes de BRITO1 Resumo Com fundamentação teórica no discurso de Bordwell acerca do estilo, este estudo tem como propósito examinar a mise-en-scène do cineasta Denis Villeneuve, a fim de identificar o seu estilo individual. Em seguida, é realizada uma análise de cenas dos filmes 32 de Agosto na Terra (Un 32 Août Sur Terre, 1998), seu primeiro longa- metragem, A Chegada (Arrival, 2016), primeiro filme do gênero ficção científica sob sua direção, e Blade Runner 2049 (2017), a sequência do clássico de Ridley Scott, com vistas a expor um padrão de estilo de Villeneuve que se constitui em um elemento central de sua mise-en-scène, e que será crucial para uma reviravolta em suas narrativas. The study analyzes scenes from the movies August 32nd on Earth (Un 32 août sur terre, 1998), his first feature film; Arrival (2016), his first science fiction movie; and Blade Runner 2049 (2017), the sequel to Ridley Scott’s classic movie, in order to describe Villeneuve’s style pattern, which is a central element of his mise-en-scène that will be vital to a turnaround in his narratives.
