Therefore, it appears as a wise bet-hedging strategy to manage reserves in diverse and patchy manners. Using portable light traps, we surveyed the effects of two contrasting management options, mowing and temporary abandonment, applied in a humid grassland reserve in a submountain area of the Czech Republic. Besides of Macrolepidoptera, we also surveyed Microlepidoptera, small moths rarely considered in community studies. Numbers of individiuals and species were similar in the two treatments, but ordionation analyses showed that catches originating from these two treatments differed in species composition, management alone explaining ca 30 per cent of variation both for all moths and if split to Marcolepidoptera and Microlepidoptera. Whereas a majority of macrolepidopteran humid grassland specialists preferred unmown sections or displayed no association with management, microlepidopteran humid grassland specialists contained equal representation of species inclining towards mown and unmown sections. We thus revealed that even mown section may host valuable species; an observation which would not have been detected had we considered Macrolepidoptera only.

    Tarset and Greystead Biological Records published by the Tarset Archive Group 2015 Foreword Tarset Archive Group is delighted to be able to present this consolidation of biological records held, for easy reference by anyone interested in our part of Northumberland. It is a parallel publication to the Archaeological and Historical Sites Atlas we first published in 2006, and the more recent Gazeteer which both augments the Atlas and catalogues each site in greater detail. Both sets of data are also being mapped onto GIS. We would like to thank everyone who has helped with and supported this project - in particular Neville Geddes, Planning and Environment manager, North England Forestry Commission, for his invaluable advice and generous guidance with the GIS mapping, as well as for giving us information about the archaeological sites in the forested areas for our Atlas revisions; Northumberland National Park and Tarset 2050 CIC for their all-important funding support, and of course Bill Burlton, who after years of sharing his expertise on our wildflower and tree projects and validating our work, agreed to take this commission and pull everything together, obtaining the use of ERIC’s data from which to select the records relevant to Tarset and Greystead. Even as we write we are aware that new records are being collected and sites confirmed, and that it is in the nature of these publications that they are out of date by the time you read them. But there is also value in taking snapshots of what is known at a particular point in time, without which we have no way of measuring change or recognising the hugely rich biodiversity of where we are fortunate enough to live.

    Preliminary work on the moth fauna (Lepidoptera: Heterocera) of Kazdağı National Park – II (Turkey) Selma Seven Abstract. In this study, moth specimens collected from Kazdağı National Park are evaluated and 32 taxa belonging to 12 families are identified. All of the species have been recorded for the first time from Kazdağı National Park. Syndemis musculana (Hübner, [1799]), known from Turkey with uncertain locality record, has been recorded with an exact locality for the first time. The distribution in Turkey of Pancalia schwarzella (Fabricius, 1798) and Eudonia mercurella (Linnaeus, 1758) are discussed. Pyrausta ostrinalis (Hübner, 1796) is recorded for the first time for the Turkish Crambidae fauna. Samenvatting. Voorlopig studie van de nachtvlinderfauna (Lepidoptera: Heterocera) van het Kazdağı Nationaalpark – II (Turkije) In deze studie worden de 32 Heterocera-taxa uit 12 families, verzameld in het Kazdağı Nationaalpark, besproken. Al deze soorten worden voor het eerst uit dit gebied vermeld. Syndemis musculana (Hübner, [1799]), voordien bekend uit Turkije zonder enige vindplaats, wordt hier voor het eerst met een duidelijke lokaliteit vermeld. De verspreiding in Turkije van Pancalia schwarzella (Fabricius, 1798) en Eudonia mercurella (Linnaeus, 1758) wordt besproken. How do you become economically stable according to Darek? By building a company that is customer focused: embracing honesty, respect, trust and support, the rest are details. When discussing what characteristics Alpha Scents, Inc. reflects, it’s clear that the vision for the company is shaped by a desire to be loyal to all stakeholders, including customers, vendors, and his employees. Since childhood, Darek was involved with biology clubs and interest groups, fueling his passion for the sciences and leading him to study forestry and entomology during his undergraduate and master’s studies. In 1985 he started studying and experimenting with insect traps, in particular bark beetle traps baited with ethanol lures. This is how Darek started honing his speciali- zation and began asking the intriguing question of, “How could we use scents to manage insects?” In 1989, right before the fall of Communism, Darek emi- grated to Canada and in 1993 started his PhD program in the field of Insect Chemical Ecology in Syracuse, New York. After his graduation in 1998, one of his professors recommended Darek to a company in Portland, Oregon.

A total of 316 species were found during the Leicester Bioblitz at Welford Road Cemetery 120 children took part What Is A A BioBlitz is an event varying in length but can last up to one whole day (24-hours) during which intense biological surveys are conducted within a designated area. It aims to record all living species present, from animals and plants, to fungi and algae. A BioBlitz strives to cover as many taxa as possible, with specialist scientists and naturalists from a range of disciplines pooling their identification abilities and knowledge to produce a species record. The term was coined in 1996 by Susan Rudy, a US National Park Service naturalist who helped with the first ever event at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, Washington DC. Since then, BioBlitzes have taken place all across the world. BioBlitz events which are held annually/seasonally or in a particular location can help build up a better picture of how the site changes and supports biodiversity over time. Alongside the scientific data gathered, an important component of any BioBlitz is the involvement of the public and encouragement of citizen science. Events like this, which allow local people to engage with the biodiversity in their area, provide people with an excellent opportunity to venture into the world of science and conservation and to better understand the nature world around them.

Colacci Abstract The following contribution highlights an overview of the 50 species of Tortricidae captured on Pelion Mountain, in Central Greece, during several field trips by the authors. Eleven new species to the Greek fauna were recorded: Aethes margaritana, Eana incanana, Paramesia diffusana, Tosirips magyarus, Eudemis profundana, Ancylis badiana, Pelochrista modicana, Grapholita lathyrana, Grapholita tenebrosana, Dichrorampha alpigenana and Dichroranpha inconspiqua. Ceratoxanthis giansalottii, Endothenia apotomisana and Cydia pelionae are found to be endemic to Greece. Dichroranpha inconspiqua is reported for the first time in Europe. Cydia magnesiae Trematerra & Colacci, sp. n. is described as new. KEY WORDS: Lepidoptera, Tortricidae, fauna, first records, Cydia magnesiae , Greece.
