COLTON JOINT UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT CLASS TITLE: GROUNDS MAINTENANCE WORKER II BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Maintenance and Operations Grounds Supervisor, perform semi- skilled gardening and grounds maintenance duties in the beautification of District grounds and/or athletic fields; perform weed and pest control and abatement according to established procedures; prepare athletic fields for physical education or sporting events as assigned. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: The Grounds Maintenance Worker II incumbents perform semi-skilled gardening and grounds maintenance duties on District-wide grounds, athletic fields and landscaped areas and involves specialized duties such as asphalt and concrete work and maintenance of playground equipment. Incumbents in the Grounds Maintenance Worker III classification operate medium to heavy duty equipment used in grounds work and may be assigned to work independently or as a lead on special grounds maintenance projects. Grounds Maintenance Worker I incumbents are assigned routine groundskeeping duties. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: Perform a variety of semi-skilled gardening and grounds maintenance duties in the beautification of District-wide grounds and athletic fields. E Prepare, measure, mark, line and maintain athletic fields for physical education and other sporting events according to established procedures and specifications; install temporary fencing. E Trim, mow lawns, athletic fields and other grounds; utilize a power edger to edge around walks, shrub beds and athletic equipment; renovate, aerate and cultivate lawns. E Operate a variety of light and medium duty equipment, such as front loader tractor with attachments, dump trucks, riding mowers, rototiller, sod cutter and related hand and power tools. E Perform varied duties in the transplantation, planting, fertilizing, pruning and trimming trees, hedges and shrubs; weed, rake and water grounds. E Apply fertilizers and pest control methods to eradicate weeds, gophers and other pests according to established procedures. E Operate hedge trimmer, hand and power tools; make routine adjustments and minor repairs to equipment. E Grounds Maintenance Worker II - Continued Page 2 Maintain tennis courts; utilize back pack blower to remove leaves and debris; spray and remove weeds. E Rake leaves and remove trash; sweep walkways. E Assist in moving and arranging bleachers, furniture and equipment and perform minor custodial work for special events. Assist in the maintenance and removal of athletic or playground equipment; perform minor sprinkler repair; assist in asphalt and concrete work as assigned. Perform related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Operation of hand and power tools and equipment used in groundskeeping and athletic field maintenance. Grounds maintenance procedures including mowing, edging, raking and weeding. Methods, equipment and materials used in gardening and groundskeeping work. Health and safety regulations. ABILITY TO: Perform semi-skilled gardening and grounds maintenance duties including mowing, edging and weeding. Perform routine and semi-skilled grounds maintenance duties. Prepare and maintain athletic fields. Use a variety of vehicles, tools and machines utilized in the basic trade. Operate power equipment safety and efficiently. Mow, edge, water, weed, fertilize, rake and cultivate lawns, flower beds, athletic fields and other landscaped areas. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Education: High School graduate or the equivalent. Proof required. Experience: Two years general grounds keeping experience in gardening or maintenance. Testing: Passing score on District Grounds Maintenance Worker II test, within the last three years. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid and appropriate California driver's license. Grounds Maintenance Worker II - Continued Page 3 WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT: Outdoor environment. Driving a vehicle to conduct work. Seasonal heat and cold or adverse weather conditions. Pollen. PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Lifting, pushing and pulling heavy objects. Seeing to perform gardening and grounds work. Heavy physical labor. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate grounds vehicles, equipment and tools. Bending at the waist. Walking and standing for extended periods of time. HAZARDS: Fertilizer and pest control chemicals. Working around and with machinery having moving parts. Revised 7/12/04 .

    FAIRGROUND COMPLEX GROUNDSKEEPER Pay Range GC11 INTRODUCTION This classification has responsibility to design and maintain the landscape of the fair grounds; design landscapes; perform basic cleaning of fair buildings; supervise summer employees and correction inmates; serve as department safety representative. EXAMPLES OF PRINCIPAL DUTIES (Duties assigned to this classification include, but are not limited to, the following examples.) 1. Design landscaping of fair grounds, determine and order plantings, fertilize, weed, water, prune, schedule and apply and oversee application of pesticides, maintain landscapes. Maintain pesticide records. 2. Supervise and train summer employees; direct correction inmates temporarily assigned to fair. 3. Perform basic cleaning of fair buildings; clean, mop, strip, wax floors; wash windows, blinds, walls; clean and disinfect restrooms and kitchens, refill supplies; secure windows and doors after cleaning. 4. Operate hand gardening power tools; perform basic repair and maintenance of equipment. Operate tractor. 5. Act as departmental safety representative; train staff; establish and maintain chemical inventory and material safety data sheets. 6. Establish and maintain supply inventory records. And in California — where various government agencies bring to bear the world's toughest vehicle emissions regulations on the most dense car enthusiast population anywhere — it pays to investigate rumors. So that's what we're doing. You've probably heard stories about the emissions of today's cars being cleaner than lawn equipment, about modern cars actually cleaning the air and about the pre-emissions-control era when birds fell from the stinking sky. So have we. We're all about busting myths, so we concocted an investigation to find the truth. Forget about the birds, but those other rumors, well, we've got them covered. Big, Small and Handheld Early on, we decided to go big. We'd run this emissions test at a real-deal emissions lab rather than a smog check station or asking Magrath to inhale at the tailpipes and offer commentary on their bouquets. It would have been easy to load this test in favor of the vehicles by hand- picking the cleanest combustion-powered vehicle we could find. No, only the biggest, baddest truck will do, and they don't come much bigger or badder than the 2011 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor Crew Cab.
