Representing the nation’s best in college football, these coaches will compete for the highly‐coveted and final title of the season: the 2018 Paul “Bear” Bryant Coach of the Year. The winner will be announced live on Jan. 9, 2019 during the awards dinner and ceremony at the Post Oak Hotel in Houston. These coaches are invited to the Bryant Awards in Houston to find out who will be the 2018 Paul “Bear” Bryant Coach of the Year. Now in its 33rd year, the award recognizes the country’s top college football coaches for their contributions both on and off the field. The Coach of the Year Award is the only college coaching honor selected after all bowl games are concluded and is voted on by the National Sports Media Association. Last year’s winner, University of Central Florida’s Scott Frost (now at Nebraska), led his team to a conference record of 8 wins and zero losses, an overall record of 13 wins and zero losses, ending the season with a 34 to 27 win over Auburn in the Chick‐Fil‐A Peach Bowl. He was also named the American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. Behind the scenes, the award is much bigger than a season’s success. It is an opportunity to shine a spotlight on heart disease and stroke – the nation’s no. 1 and no. 5 health threats. Since the adoption of the name, the Bryant Awards have MORE raised over $8.5 Million for the American Heart Association, funding research, education and advocacy efforts and saving countless lives. “Bear” always talked about being bigger than something other than himself.     Rick George was named athletic director at the University of Colorado on July 17, 2013, returning to Boulder where he helped play a role in the school’s first and only national championship in football some 23 years earlier. George, 59, came to Colorado from the Texas Rangers baseball club of the American League, where he was named chief operating officer on October 5, 2010 with a promotion to president of business operations in February 2013. He agreed to a 5-year contract at CU, and he officially started on the job on August 12, 2013. In June 2016, the Board of Regents approved a contract extension through 2020-21, and in June 2019, the Regents once again extended him through the 2023-24 academic and athletic year. He is just the sixth full-time athletic director in Colorado history, following in the footsteps of Harry Carlson (1927-65), Eddie Crowder (1965-84), Bill Marolt (1984-96), Dick Tharp (1996- 2004) and Mike Bohn (2005-13). Two others have bridged directors in interim capacities, Jack Lengyel (six months between Tharp and Bohn) and Ceal Barry (two months between Bohn and George). His list of achievements in his first 1,000 days in the position were many, but none more significant than shepherding through a $156 million Athletic Complex Expansion from creation through fruition, gaining approval from the Board of Regents and then raising nearly one-half of the estimated cost to initiate construction, which began May 12, 2014. The project was the core of the Sustainable Excellence Initiative (SEI), the jewel of which was a long-awaited indoor practice facility.

    2008 Florida Football Post-Game Notes Florida vs. LSU October 11, 2008 Florida is now a perfect 5-0 at home against ranked opponents under head coach Urban Meyer. Coach Meyer is 4-1 all-time versus top-five opponents while at Florida and he improved to 14-5 all-time against ranked opponents (12-5 at UF). He has led the Gatorsto wins over six of the last eight ranked opponents and 11 of the last 14. The Plan to Win The following four items outline Coach Meyer’s Plan to Win: Play Great Defense Counting LSU’s touchdown at the end of the second stanza, the Gators have only given up 17 points to their six opponents in the first half. LSU tailbacks had 385 consecutive carries without a fumble before Christopher Scott fumbled with 9:46 to play in the first half. The Gators held running back Charles Scott to only 17 yards, marking the first time this season he has not rushed for 100 yards. Turnovers UF recovered one fumble and caught two interceptions for a +2 turnover margin in the game. The Gators have a +10 in turnover margin this year. Florida already has more interception return yards this year (199) than all of last season (104). The total is already a season high under head coach Urban Meyer. Score in the Red Zone UF has scored on 23-of-24 trips inside the red zone this season and has been perfect in five (6-of-6 today) of six games. The one time UF did not score was at the end of the Tennessee game, when the Gators ran on fourth and nine from the UT 12-yard line.
