Since 2009 Member of the Academic Advisory Board of the University of Heidelberg, Germany's oldest and finest comprehensive university. The Board advises the University on strategic matters, especially on competing for funding through the Excellence Initiative led by the German Federal Ministry of Education and the German Research Foundation (DFG). The Initiative seeks to promote cutting- edge research, enhance interdisciplinary work in teaching and research, and strengthen the international appeal of outstanding German universities.
