Disney movies were, and still are my favourites, so to record some of the classics (all pre 1977) with full symphony orchestra is a dream come true. We all know music communicates in magical ways and having studied psychology at University, I learned how valuable music can be in early intervention for children on the autistic spectrum. I very much hope the royalty profits from this album can help families and children affected by autism. A huge thank you to Bill Ackman and his team in the States; to the wonderful arranger Madeline Pierard, especially for all her late nights; Oliver Gooch for being a guiding light; Jonathan Allen for his immense talent; Anthony Long of RTE for jumping at this chance and allowing me to play with the magnificent RTÉ NSO and of course to Mark of Stone Records for putting up with a mad Irish woman and agreeing to release this album. She sees literature as an opportunity to keep memories, relate stories to pleasant times from the past, and imagine things which are unreachable or far away. For these reasons, children should be encouraged to read, which will equip them with the skills necessary to create their own associations with reading and creating their own worlds. Finally, The Courage to Imagine demonstrates how literature can influence childrenʼs thinking and help them cope with the world around them. Dealing with topics present in everyday life, such as ethnic diversity, fear, bullying, or empathy, and offering examples of child heroes who overcome their problems, this book will be engaging to teachers and students, as well as experts in the field of childrenʼs literature. Its simple message that through reading children “can escape the adult world and imagine alternativesˮ (108) should be sufficient incentive for everybody to immerse themselves in reading and to start imagining. Making Music Grow since 1975 Notations Fall/Winter 2010 Barbara and John LoFrumento Establish A Program to Assist Autistic Students ASCAP CEO John LoFrumento and his wife Barbara, have established The ASCAP Foundation Barbara and John LoFrumento Award to support music and music therapy programs for autistic learners. This award, which was recently presented to the Music Conservatory of Westchester Music Therapy Institute, will enable the Institute to expand its music therapy program and provide weekly music therapy sessions to special needs students in the Eastchester, NY school district. Students will have the opportunity to work with music educators on songwriting and instrumental instruction. Music therapy uses the power of music in a focused way to accomplish growth, learning, healing and change. Elements of music such as repetition, form, dynamics, tempo and rhythm specifically address the learning needs of children with autism creating an environment of attention, creativity and expression. The ASCAP Foundation Barbara and John LoFrumento Award will make it possible for the Institute to reach out to those in the community who might otherwise not have an opportunity to experience music and its healing abilities. For those children, music therapy will make a significant difference in Barbara and John LoFrumento their lives by addressing important areas including communication and language development, socialization, emotional development and self expression, as well as helping to develop their musical skills and talents.     Fantasia The famous soundtracks of Walt Disney's masterpieces Sang Eun Kim soprano Luigi Giachino piano and transcriptions The Korean soprano Angela Kim with her wonderful voice and endearing presence on the stage meets the harmonies of the pianist Luigi Giachino, a great expert in film music, in a repertoire dedicated to the famous soundtracks of Walt Disney's masterpieces. The concert can be realized with the cinematographic projections made by Alba Film Festival. Since 1923 the Disney Studios have presented films that built the international history of cinema and animation, becoming immortal masterpieces as well, released from a mere function of entertainment and projected into a more “philosophical” dimension, to the point of rightfully becoming part of a worldwide popular culture. Despite the changes of time, aesthetics and lifestyles, Disney's lesson always remains current and reminds us that, despite the small and big difficulties of the life, we must continue to look forward, using the resources we have and finding solutions, never feeling lost and always listening to our emotions. The repertoire of this concert program embraces half a century of the Disney production and is a tribute to his unique style which also influenced the soundtracks. In the selected pieces, the atmospheres of poetry and dream are alternated with more playful and light-hearted moments, enhancing the versatility and great technical preparation of our artists.
