Sanuade BMC Public Health (2019) 19:717 https://doi.org/10.1186/s12889-019-7093-6 RESEARCHARTICLE Open Access Community perceptions on the role of sexual activity on stroke: a qualitative study exploring the views of Ghanaian local community residents Olutobi Adekunle Sanuade Abstract Background: Stroke is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in Ghana and sometimes comes with multifaceted complications including sexual dysfunction. While evidence is clear that living with stroke can result in sexual dysfunction, there are contradictory views regarding the causal association between sexual activity and stroke. This study explores perceptions of Ghanaian local communities on the role of sexual activity on stroke causation. Methods: This was a cross-sectional qualitative study. Thirty (30) focus group discussions (FGDs) were conducted in five communities across Ghana (Ga Mashie, Tafo, Gyegyeano, Chanshegu and Agorve) between October and November 2017. Data were analysed through a thematic approach. Results: Participants generally believed that sexual activity can cause a stroke. They mentioned that the dynamics through which sex can trigger a stroke include sex positions (i.e. having sex while standing and on the floor), high frequency of sex, having sex when older and engaging in indiscriminate sex. Conclusion: This study shows the need to pay critical attention to these community perceptions when developing intervention strategies for stroke in Ghana. This study also highlights that discussion about sexual activity in Ghana is more complex than the current health education programme allows, and so demands a ‘comprehensive sex education approach’ rather than a ‘disease-centered approach’. • Gender Differences in Receptivity to Sexual Offers
Gender Differences in Receptivity to Sexual Offers Russell D. Clark III, PhD Elaine Hatfield, PhD ABSTRACT. According to cultural stereotypes, men are more ea ger for sex than are women; women are more likely to set limits on such activity. In this paper, we review the work of theorists who have argued in favor of this proposition and review the interview and correlational data which support this contention. Finally, we report two experimental tests of this hypothesis. In these experiments, conducted in 1978 and 1982, male and Ie male confederates of average attractiveness 'approached potential partners with one of three requests: "Would you go out tonight'?" "Will you come over to my apartment?" or "Would you go to bed with me?" The great majority of men were willing to have a sexual liaison with the women who approached them. Women were not. Not one woman agreed to a sexual liaison. Many possible reasons for this marked gender difference were discussed. These studies were run in 1978 and 1982. It has since become important to track how the threat of AIDS is affecting men and women's willingness to date, come to an apartment, or to engage in casual sexual relations. GENERAL BACKGROUND According to cultural stereotypes, men are eager for sexual inter course; it is women who set limits on such activity (see McCor mick, 1979; Hatfield, 1982; and Peplau, 1983). Theorists from a variety of perspectives have agreed with this observation. What Dr. Russel! Clark is Professor of Psychology at The Florida State University, Tallahasee, FL 32306-1051. Dr.

5/22/2015 Sex Positions for Athletes - MensJournal.com Health & Fitness Sex Positions for Athletes Credit: Getty Images Why go to all the work getting strong, flexible, and in top shape, if you can’t take it to the bedroom? Sex, too, can be an athletic endeavor, if you and your partner are fit and willing to try something that might take you both out of your comfort zone. In the spirit of experimentation, we emailed some of our favorite sex experts to get their opinions on the most difficult and unusual sex positions out there. These experts specialize in all different areas of sex and sexuality, so their recommendations vary greatly in difficulty and approach, with options for every level of athlete. The Swing (Prenkholita): Ava Cadell, Ph.D. in human sexuality and author of Idiot's Guides: The Kama Sutra advocates the swing position for the late-night athletes. For it, a man reclines on his back with his feet on the ground and knees up, then raises his hips off the floor in a lower-body bridge. The woman is seated on top of him. "You must have a strong back and legs for this acrobatic sex position, rated as one of the most difficult ones in my Kama Sutra book," says Cadell. The book recommends this position be done on the floor rather than the bed for a more solid foundation. Click here for an illustration of The Swing. Standing Suspended (Avalambitaka): This position is one of the most challenging in Cadell's book. In it, as you might guess, the man is standing and the woman is suspended, her legs wrapped around his thighs and his hands cupping her butt.

The regime’s focus on female bodies and reproduction exemplifies what feminist theorists call rape culture, a culture Gilead perpetuates through sexual violence, rape, and surveillance. Using critical race theory, media and close-textual analysis this project examines both works, arguing that complicity within the novel must be discussed in relation to rape culture and that while the series accounts for rape culture, it problematically manifests a type of feminism that privileges white women over women of color.

  • From Purity to Pleasure
From Purity to Pleasure PRODUCT RECOMMENDATIONS WICKED SIMPLY HYBRID It is a myth that a woman’s natural lubrication will show up on cue. So it’s handy to always keep a bottle of lube nearby for when you are ready for play. Lubricant can also help if you are experiencing pain or discomfort during sex because it creates a barrier between the skin and significantly reduces friction and micro-tearing. We suggest a hybrid lubricant – either the gels or the creams – because they are very wet, and they tend to last longer because of their thicker consistency. Also, they are compatible with silicone toys. Click here to purchase online or visit us in-store. FEMME FUN BOOSTER BULLET A bullet is your best friend. They are small, discrete, and typically more powerful than they look. Plus, you can use it to explore pleasure points all over the body. Bullets come in all sorts of shapes and sizes and can be used with your partner or on your own. We recommend that you use it on your own first, because knowing your body and what feels good for you is essential to communicating your needs to your partner. Check out the Femme Fun Booster Bullet in-store. VIBRATING C-RING Over 80% of women achieve orgasm by clitoral stimulation alone. Unfortunately, the clitoris is on the outside of the body and doesn’t always get the attention it deserves during typical intercourse. A vibrating c-ring provides hands-free clitoral stimulation during sex, making the missionary position a lot more fun.

  • LIBERATING MASTURBATION 1. Understanding
LIBERATING MASTURBATION Copyright 1972 by Betty Dodson. Excerpted from © her forthcoming book about feminism and sexuality. ""'Distributed by Sensory Research Corp. ,Union. N. J. 1. Understanding Among the many issues involved in the liberation of women, the two major fronts in my own personal liberation have been economics and sexuality. And ultimately, they are not separable — not as long as the female genitals have economic value instead of sexual value for women. Effective action, therefore, must consist of a simultaneous attack on both fronts. But so far, the sex issue has not been faced head on. The extent to which women have been sex-negatively conditioned has, understandably, made this basic confrontation the one that terrifies us the most. The answer for women lies not in trying to avoid or deny or do away with sex, but in trying to get joy and strength and liberation from it. A sex- positive woman will have a positive attitude toward herself and the world she lives in. That is the reason I am almost obsessed these days with the necessity for women to "go public, " that is, to speak out about the importance of female masturbation. In my opinion it will be our real Declaration of Independence. It is that revolut- ionary! How can masturbation be so important? I know it is difficult to understand. We all have to wade through ten tons of firmly implant- ed fear, guilt, repulsion, and misinformation to think or talk about masturbation with any kind of open mind. In struggling to under- stand the extent of my own repression as a woman, I have had to face these sexually-based negative emotions every step of the way.

  • How to Have Vaginal Sex
How to have vaginal sex FAST FACTS: During vaginal sex the penis goes into the vagina. Foreplay is important. It gets you both sexually aroused and ready so that vaginal sex is more enjoyable for both partners. Having sex without a condom puts you and your partner at risk of pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) including HIV. Condoms are the best form of protection against unplanned pregnancy and STIs. For condoms to work effectively they need to be in place before the penis touches or enters the vagina. Discussing safer sex is an important part of having sex. You might be thinking about having sex for the first time and are not sure where to start. Or maybe you want more information on how to make it pleasurable and safe? Whatever your situation here are answers to some common questions about vaginal sex. What is vaginal sex? During vaginal sex (also known as penetrative vaginal sex, sexual intercourse and just sex) the penis goes into the vagina. If you watch movies or look at pornography you may have a very unrealistic idea of what sex is like. There is no one right way of having vaginal sex. It can be a very gentle, intimate experience or a passionate, adventurous one and many other things in between. You can try having sex however you and your partner would like to. How do you have vaginal sex? What is foreplay? Sometimes called heavy petting, foreplay helps to get both people sexually aroused (or turned on) and ready for vaginal sex. It can involve kissing, stroking, caressing, rubbing, touching or oral sex.

  • SEX DURING PREGNANCY Sexual Intimacy Is a Normal and Healthy Part of a Committed Relationship
SEX DURING PREGNANCY Sexual intimacy is a normal and healthy part of a committed relationship. Before pregnancy, you likely felt comfortable being intimate with your partner. Now that you're pregnant, you may have questions or feel unsure about having sex with your partner. There are lots of myths about sex and pregnancy, such as: * Sex can be harmful or painful during pregnancy. * Intercourse could hurt the baby. * The baby somehow "knows" that sex is taking place. Truth: * Unless your health care provider advises you otherwise, sex during pregnancy is safe for you and your baby. * As for the baby, he or she has no idea what Mom and Dad are doing. The baby is well protected by a cushion of fluid in the womb and by the mom's abdomen. When is sex unsafe during pregnancy? There are some circumstances that can make sex during pregnancy unsafe. Women who have the following health complications should talk to their health provider before engaging in sex: * A history or risk of miscarriage * A previous preterm birth or other risk factors for preterm birth * Unexplained vaginal bleeding, discharge or cramping * Leaking amniotic fluid * Placenta previa (when the placenta is low and covers the cervix) * Incompetent cervix (when the cervix is weakened and opens too soon) If your pregnancy is considered to be high risk, you may need to be more cautious than other women. Your health care provider may advise you to avoid intercourse for all or part of your pregnancy. How does pregnancy affect my sex life? Many women find that pregnancy makes them want sex more than they did before they became pregnant.
