Price Mock-Up Room 1 was designed to allow mock-ups of real world installations in a laboratory setting. The ability to experience your facility in a mock-up setting gives engineers the confi dence that their space will perform as expected in the fi eld. One of the key systems that we test in this Mock-Up Room, is the Price Acufl ow O.R. system. The Acufl ow systems (available in both Laminar and Air Curtain) are the most important Critical Environment products available from Price.

The customizable overhead ceiling system allows for evaluation of the perimeter and interior zone diffusers in the space at various operating conditions and ceiling confi gurations.

The controllable perimeter wall allows for the evaluation of comfort criteria at the perimeter zone for outside design conditions ranging from -30F to 100F. Space temperatures and velocities can all be tested in a real-life environment to ensure optimal Price product selection and performance.

The raised fl oor is completely customizable to examine various underfl oor designs and is set up using the latest in underfl oor technology. A pressurized plenum, using a Price booster unit with electric heat, conditions the perimeter zone.

The LCD screen allows for monitoring of real-time conditions in the room and controlling the space accurately for all tests performed.

GRD Product Testing

With the largest offering of commodity air distribution products available in the industry, it is necessary to have a room fl exible enough to test such a wide variety of products. The PRCN Mock-Up Room 2/Throw Room allows for adaptation to precise design specifi cations required for accurate testing of , ventilation effectiveness and air distribution performance. Using two custom Price Terminal Units to supply the overhead air systems, conditioned air can be precisely controlled to match the specifi ed application. This allows for all types of air outlets to be tested in a variety of environmental conditions. Room layout and diffuser placement can be customized, allowing products to be extensively tested prior to arriving at the job site. The room utilizes a customizable T-Bar ceiling to allow for layout changes depending on specifi c test requirements. The room can be separated into two individual test chambers, giving the ability to perform both catalog testing and product development mock-ups at the same time. This highly customizable and fl exible space has been used for a variety of job specifi c complex space mock-ups including Price Laminar Acufl ow O.R. A facility like the PRCN requires complex mechanical systems to sustain the high level of testing that is performed on a continuous basis. The PRCN is equipped with multiple dedicated mechanical rooms housing various high-pressure air handlers, , and DX cooling systems. These complex systems allow the PRCN to be completely self-suffi cient and fl exible to accomplish the full range of tests required.

The Price Radiant Test Chamber is a world class facility designed to test and provide catalog data for our lines of radiant products and chilled beams. This strategic addition to the PRCN marks our entry into “lights out” testing where the entire testing process, lab control and data collection are fully automated. This level of automation allows for a reduction in test time from 3 full days to 24 hours.

Load Simulators

The Price Radiant Test Chamber is essentially a room within a room. The lab started with the shell of a walk-in freezer, into which was built a fl oor, four walls and a ceiling of Radiant Panel allowing the control of each surface temperature in the room. Below the active ceiling is a Price HDCR test ceiling that retains the panels or beams under test and allows for quick reconfi guration and adjustment. The tests are controlled by four water loops: a chilled water loop, a hot water loop, room surface loop and a test product loop. A computer measures and controls the temperature and water fl ow in each of these loops, along with the power of the EN standard load simulators in the room. The supply air volume and temperature required for the testing of active chilled beams on the system can also control hybrid systems.

Capacity and performance is calculated from SOUND ROOM data collected by temperature, velocity and REVERBERANT pressure sensors along with humidity, radiation and comfort values which are recorded many times per second. In a given week the test computer, once initiated, will run several EQUIPMENT cooling tests in a row varying the fl ow rate in order to develop MECHANICAL a performance curve. It then indicates that the lab personnel should set up for a series of automatically run heating tests. This is all automated and occurs without human intervention,

Product Testing

The vast majority of the data available on the market today is highly dependent on interpretation by the engineer. The lack of industry wide testing procedures for radiant products and chilled beams has led to confusion in performance as well as diffi culty in comparing between manufacturers. Recently, benchmark testing for Radiant Panels and Chilled Beams has become available, in the form of European Norm (EN) standards. The Price Radiant Test Chamber has the capability of testing to EN standards 14037, 14240, 14518 and 15116 relating to the heating and cooling with Radiant Panels as well as the performance of Passive and Active Chilled Beams, respectively. This Chamber will be used to generate the fi rst comprehensive set of standardized and accurate performance data in the industry.

Reverberant Sound Chamber

The solid concrete Sound Source Chambers generate up to 120 decibels of overall sound pressure level using 4,000 watts of power. These high sound levels allow us to attain accurate insertion loss measurements for long silencers, and give us the fl exibility to test a very wide range of products. All components of the lab have been designed to meet or exceed Test Work the current ASTM E-477 standard for testing acoustical duct silencers. As you enter the Price Noise Control Sound Lab, you immediately see an acoustical plenum and two branch ducts that extend above to the full height of the 17 foot ceiling. One 36 inch duct loops down to the Straight Duct Testing Source Chamber and the other 28 inch duct hugs the ceiling and travels 60 feet to the second Source Chamber that is used for testing elbow silencers. The Control Center houses the heart of the operation; a data acquisition system, frequency analyzer and sound generator leaves nothing to chance.

The Test Duct Work employed in the system had to be designed ROOM 2 MOCK-UP to minimize sound break-out and break-in of the high test signals produced by the Source Chambers. Multiple layers of sheet metal, drywall mass, and insulation were employed to keep the sound power levels in the general lab area below 70dB. SOUND ROOM The Noise Control Fan Room consists of a 30,000 CFM bi- REVERBERANT directional axial fan that can ramp up to 4 inches of static Branch Duct Work pressure. To ensure that quiet acoustically treated air is used for silencer testing, a range of different noise control solutions were employed including Axial Fan Silencers (AFS), Rectangular EQUIPMENT Silencers (RL), Acoustical Plenums (Price Quiet-Line), and MECHANICAL Custom Elbow Plenums. Two airfl ow measuring stations are used to attain accurate airfl ow and pressure drop data.

Adjacent to the large Sound Chamber, we have CHAMBER made provision for a second Reverberation Sound Chamber that RADIANT TEST will allow us to perform transmission loss testing for products like Acoustical Panels, and Cross-Talk Silencers. Reverberant Sound Chamber The key to any successfully constructed sound lab is the Reverberation Sound Chamber where the sound levels are measured. To achieve a high level of accuracy for measurements as high as 10,000 Hz and as low as 50 Hz, the Reverberation Sound Chamber was constructed with size, dimensions, mass and acoustic isolation in mind. The result is an amazing looking structure that weighs over 750,000 lbs, fl oats on spring isolators and is completely isolated from the rest of the building for both vibration and sound infi ltration. The room is designed with a Discharge Silencer that can handle up to 60,000 CFM of airfl ow for testing Axial Fan Silencing systems and can accommodate up to a 12 foot x 12 foot duct connection through the test wall.
