Spring has arrived! 3 WelcomeWelcome to the to the March September Edition of ofThrussington Thrussington Life Life This month seems a little quiet! Looking back over pervious March magazines we have usually had pictures of the littler pick which will be too late for this month as well as a few other “goings on”. Having said that there is a nice article about the school and the development that is going on there, unfortunately I didn't manage to take a picture of the crane that came in to move the mobile class room to the other side of the site but maybe I can entice a few pictures from the School as the development continues. Talking of photographs, I am happy to try and use photographs submitted from the Village about the Village. I don’t always have something topical for the front cover but if you have a photograph that might be appropriate then please send it to [email protected], I cant guarantee using it but you never know. Lastly there is a short article from the police with an update on the damage that took place in January. Worth looking at. All the best Ed the editor 7.45pm Thursday 30th March Brian Johnson “Joseph Roberts, a Grocer of Distinction” Joseph was born in 1806 and came to Leicester to be a grocer, the business he founded became the largest wholesale grocer in the Midland. Had he been born 100 years later he would probably have been among the first to open a supermarket. He was family man and a very benevolent man, sadly his plans for the business did not continue after his death Non-members always welcome (Fee £2) For more details contact Mike Harrison (424527) 4 Janet Sanders I write to thank everyone who attended Mum's funeral back in October; and, also for the many cards and kind words/ letters of support I received at that difficult time . Donations collected in memory of Mum amounted to £437.10 for Alzheimer's Society. Thanks once again Sue Sanders THRUSSINGTON NEIGHBOURHOOD DEVELOPMENT PLAN UPDATE At the Village Hall, February 4th, the Neighbourhood Plan Working Group held a public meeting to discuss what policies we may need for the plan and what they should aim to achieve. With the working group, Urban Imprint (our consultants), residents and Parish Councillors attending we finalised the Plan's vision and objectives and had five groups covering possible requirements for policies on business and leisure, environment, housing, transport and infrastructure, design and heritage from the data gathered at the first analysis consultation and the questionnaire results and started to correlate with the strategic plan of Charnwood. The data is being collated and we will hold a further meeting to review the results in March. BLUE LION Thrussington CAMRA VILLAGE PUB OF THE YEAR 2006 Beer garden and patio Lunches and Evening Meals Closed Wednesday Lunchtime Telephone: BOB and MANDY 01664 424266 5 6 VILLAGE HALL NEWS The hall is quite busy at the present and bookings are growing steadily for the rest of the year so if you have any events needing the hall please let me know as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. At the village hall committee meeting in January we made a list of maintenance items which will be looked at as soon as possible. These include new emergency lights, cupboard sorting and a general tidying up especially in the back room as we now have a group who will be able to make use of the extra brown chairs we have been advertising. We have also informed all the groups of the new price increase as advertised in last months magazine. As this magazine goes to print we will be preparing for the Retired Persons lunch on the 26th and we look forwards to meeting with all those who have kindly replied. Unfortunately our numbers are decreased this year so if anyone would like to be added to the invites for next year, please let me know and my write up will be in next months magazine. Leicestershire County Council have now completed the first phase focusing on new road markings designed to help reduce thoughtless and dangerous parking by the Star Inn and Seagrave Road with “H Bar” markings. They have also included dragons teeth and 30 MPH roundels on all the roads into the Village to raise awareness of the speed limit.. It is still planned for a ‘priority working system’ to be installed on Hoby Road and the potentially affected residents are being consulted. Following the consultation additional discussions will be held with the Parish Council on how the scheme will progress before work commences. January and, given the benign weather conditions, plans are progressing according to schedule. The project will be completed over three phases: the re-location of the mobile classroom, the new building and the reconfiguration of the Victorian interior. Once it was apparent that the work would not begin during the last summer holiday, major consideration had to be given to the school’s functioning as normal whilst it became the hub of a huge building site – the complete gutting of the mobile and storage of all fixtures and fittings, had to be done during the school week; and a whole class had to be decanted – we have been immensely lucky in having Wreake Valley Academy support us by providing access to classrooms and facilities whilst the mobile is out of commission.

A little birdie told us that you would like to VOLUNTEER… At LOROS we recognise that in this current climate it is not always possible to support your favourite charity in a financial respect. For this reason, we welcome and encourage the support of volunteers and volunteams from businesses. We are always looking for extra hands to help in the run up and on the day of an event to help ensure everything goes smoothly! We are extremely grateful for all offers to donate a gift of time to LOROS and we always try our very best to accommodate them all. Unfortunately, there are some occasions when we are unable to provide opportunities for the dates and tasks that have been requested. We truly value every single minute of your time but it costs LOROS an estimated £350 per half day to accommodate our corporate volunteers and so we have to focus on those opportunities that are most greatly required at the Hospice. We hope that you can find something suitable on the list attached and thank you so much for your understanding. We issue this response in the spirit of contributing to the processes surrounding this vast infrastructure project, but must include the caveat that the Council can only respond to the material to hand and further intensive work with HS2 Ltd is required to fully understand the impacts for Leicestershire and the most appropriate mitigation. ii) The Council recognises that the WDES is a draft document. However, it is disappointing that even in draft; there is a distinct lack of information provided in sections of the WDES, especially regarding the proposed scheme’s constructional and operational impacts and in respect of its design. But, the Council have determined to use this as an opportunity to shape the design and mitigation across the County. Where clear mitigation is not yet defined, the Council will seek to secure assurances from HS2 Ltd that further work will be carried out to inform the preparation of the Hybrid Bill, including HS2 Ltd preparing an Interim Transport Assessment (including sensitivity testing), and during the Parliamentary processes.
