O único ponto negativo dessa obra é que o autor (fã de bossa nova), considera a invenção da guitarra INTRODUÇÃO elétrica como uma das piores desgraças do século 20. A guitarra elétrica já é detonada logo na introdução, na página 11: (...) “o século 20 produziu duas guerras mundiais, inúmeras ditaduras abomináveis, a violência AS ORIGENS DA urbana, a guitarra elétrica, o cachorro quente, a droga, a Aids e outras pestes típicas” (...). GUITARRA JAZZ, BLUES & ROCK Discordo radicalmente de Rui Castro. Um Top 10 do século 20, uma espécie de Best of, seria mais ou menos assim: 1955 – 1967 TOP 30 -Top 1: o nascimento da guitarra elétrica A –Z -Top 2: o nascimento dos grandes guitarristas GRANDES COMPILAÇÕES -Top 3: os discos clássicos do rock progressivo inglês BRASIL, CORDAS, -Top 4: discos de guitarristas SEÇÃO 4 G.E.D.I.E.P.F.P.G.E. -Top 5: as obras-primas do cinema FONTES -Top 6: a pílula anti-concepcional -Top 7: 21/07/69: o homem pisa na Lua pela primeira vez -Top 8: corridas de Fórmula 1 -Top 9: contra-filé, batata frita e coca cola com três fatias de limão -Top 10: a “imagem” dentro de casa: TV, videocassete e DVD O livro que está diante de seus olhos não é um “livro técnico”, com tablaturas, partituras, etc. Não sou músico e não sei ler música. Não possuo e nunca possuirei uma guitarra. Eu sou apenas um crítico de rock latino- americano, sem dinheiro no banco, sem parentes importantes e completamente fanático por discos de guitarristas. Não sei informar a quantidade exata de livros (em inglês e português) que foram escritos por guitarristas e/ou transcripters. Com certeza é um número alto. Dois mil? Três mil livros? Por outro lado, não conheço nenhum livro sobre diversos guitarristas que tenha sido escrito por um fã, por uma pessoa que não sabe tocar guitarra. Pelo menos, em português, penso que este é o primeiro. O único “problema” dos livros com partituras é que eles são compreendidos apenas por quem sabe ler música. Nestes livros, para o leitor que não é músico, só há duas opções: (1) Ler os poucos textos. Geralmente, é uma pequena biografia. (2) Ver as fotos dos guitarristas. Às vezes não há fotos. Nem texto! Muitos livros são apenas partituras. O que eu pretendo nos próximos capítulos é transmitir ao leitor esse meu fanatismo por discos de guitarristas. A idéia central é indicar os melhores discos para que o leitor possa ter em casa uma discografia classe A. O foco principal será em cima dos guitarristas de rock progressivo, jazz-rock e hard rock. Desde já o leitor precisa estar ciente de que não pretendo escrever a biografia completa de cada guitarrista. Cabe aqui uma “advertência estética”: este livro não seguirá “fórmulas clássicas” da literatura rockeira. Escreverei o que eu penso sobre cada guitarrista tendo em mente que no “jogo eterno” da qualidade X quantidade, o time da qualidade sempre ganhará de goleada: 10 X 0. Exemplo: o guitarrista José da Silva lançou 20 discos. O problema é que apenas um disco é excelente. Portanto, não vejo necessidade de um longo comentário sobre os outros 19 álbuns. Outra “advertência estética”: críticos de cinema são fanáticos por cinema. Críticos de teatro são fanáticos por teatro. Críticos de rock são fanáticos por rock. Todo esse óbvio ululante é para preparar o espírito do leitor: nesta obra, em algumas páginas, há “cenas” de fanatismo explícito. Muitos guitarristas ficarão de fora. A explicação é simples. O livro não é um dicionário ou enciclopédia de guitarristas. “As Obras-Primas do Rock Progressivo”, meu primeiro livro, recebeu, na revista Rock Press, a seguinte crítica: (...) “Ele escreve como se fala, e por vezes você tem a impressão de estar num saldão de vinis de calçada, conversando com o camelô sobre essa ou aquela raridade” (...). http://voiceprint.com.br/gtrbook/2.htm (1 of 2) [08/03/2003 09:15:54] OS MELHORES GUITARRISTAS DO MUNDO www.cliqueapostilas.com.br Crítica ou elogio? Suponho que os leitores (da revista) entenderam que é uma crítica dura, pesada. Para mim foi um encômio (Encômio? Pois é. Encômio é o mesmo que elogio. O correto é escrever elogio, mas quem fez a crítica pensa que é errado “escrever como se fala”). A verdade é que, na crítica acima, gostaria apenas de substituir camelô por lojista. No caso, lojista de discos. Leitor: nunca compre um vinil em uma calçada. Motivos: calor, chuva, poeira, etc. Lojística (sim, com j) é uma palavra que eu criei para batizar minha literatura. A logística da literatura lojística é simples: o livro é quase um bate-papo dentro de uma loja de discos. Sendo mais claro: eu quero ser 100% coloquial! No dicionário Aurélio, uma das definições para coloquial é a seguinte: - “Literatura: diz-se do estilo em que se usam vocabulário e sintaxe bem próximos da linguagem cotidiana”. Eu adoraria começar este livro com o “cúmulo do absurdo” da linguagem coloquial. Eu adoraria começar este livro com as seguintes palavras: Dexeu contá procêis sobre uns discos duns guitarristas phoddões (sejamos sinceros: um livro, com essa introdução, venderia apenas dois exemplares. A verdade é que não dá para ser 100% coloquial. Ficarei próximo de 70%). Alguns críticos literários levam muito a sério a introdução, a primeira frase dos livros. Fico imaginando que seria muito interessante iniciar um livro (sobre qualquer assunto) fazendo um trocadilho infame com “Once Upon a Time...(era uma vez...)”. O trocadilho: “Onça Upon a Time...” (uma introdução perfeita para um livro sobre onças). Meu primeiro livro nasceu no dia 20 de abril de 2001, sexta-feira, 17 horas. Até essa data eu tinha certeza absoluta de que qualquer brasileiro alfabetizado, com idade entre 9 e 90 anos , entenderia todas as páginas do livro, ou seja, 100% de entendimento. Em julho de 2001, bastante decepcionado com algumas opiniões absurdas, tive que encarar a realidade: algumas pessoas não entenderam.

Malmsteen Yngwie Johann Malmsteen (born Lars Johann Yngve Lannerbäck, June 30, 1963) is a Swedish guitarist, composer and bandleader. Widely recognized as a virtuoso, Malmsteen achieved widespread acclaim in the 1980s due to his technical proficiency and his pioneering neo-classical metal. Ian Gillan lasciò i Deep Purple nel 1973 proprio dopo la pubblicazione dell'acclamato album “Who Do We Think We Are?”, a causa di forti contrasti interni con il chitarrista Ritchie Blackmore. Il grande cantante urlatore formò una band tutta sua e quindi dopo tre anni pubblicò, nel 1976, il suo primo disco solista con essa. Quell'album adesso introvabile era “Child In Time” e contiene una splendida cover della famosa canzone dei Purple, meno hard rock, meno nervosa e drammatica, con un'inclinazione più sognante e malinconica eseguita con molti sapori progressivi. Esso segnò l'ascesa della prima formazione della Ian Gillan Band, rimarcata ancora nel 1977 dalla pubblicazione degli ottimi “Clear Air Turbulence” e “Scarabus”, entrambi nello stesso anno ed entrambi con un particolare mood jazzato, un groove alieno a ciò che Gillan ci aveva abituati nella sua band porpora, e con straordinarie parti sperimentali sottolineate da interventi di flauto e sax. Tutto ciò, appunto, era abbastanza fuori dalla norma per un cantante che proveniva direttamente dall'hard rock milieu, ma Gillan desiderava fortemente cambiare aria dal ruvido sound purpleiano così approdò all'esplorazione di spiagge quasi progressive. Martin Michael Jackson produced art in its most total sense. Throughout his forty-year career Jackson merged art forms, melded genres and styles, and promoted an ethos of unity in his work. Jackson’s mastery of combined song and dance is generally acknowledged as the hallmark of his performance. Scholars have not- ed Jackson’s place in the lengthy soul tradition of enmeshed movement and mu- sic (Mercer 39; Neal 2012) with musicologist Jacqueline Warwick describing Jackson as “embodied musicality” (Warwick 249). Jackson’s colleagues have also attested that even when off-stage and off-camera, singing and dancing were frequently inseparable for Jackson. We used to record with the lights out in the studio, and I had him on my drum platform. Michael would dance on that as he did the vocals” (Swedien ix-x). Surveying his life-long body of work, Jackson’s creative capacities, in fact, encompassed acting, directing, producing, staging, and design as well as lyri- cism, music composition, dance, and choreography—and many of these across genres (Brackett 2012).

Käyn läpi syntetisaattorisoundien suunnitteluprosessia siitä näkökulmasta, miten yhtyeelle saadaan heavymusiikin perinteitä kunnioittavat soundit, jotka kuitenkin omaavat selkeän oman luonteensa. Työni pääteemana on yksittäisten soundien suunnittelu heijastaen niitä rooleihin, joita toivon niiden kappaleessa täyttävän. Opinnäytetyössä käydään läpi myös omalle työskentelylleni merkittävä valikoitu historiikki syntetisaattorien käytöstä raskaassa musiikissa. Työ sisältää lisäksi peruskäsitteistön liittyen syntetisaattorisoundien tekemiseen. Työni loppuosassa pohdiskelen omien soundivalintojeni onnistumista käyden läpi oivalluksia, joita sain työn tekemisen aikana. Näihin oivalluksiin kuuluu esimerkiksi pohdiskelua syntetisaattoreiden roolista heavymusiikissa, sekä havaintoja mahdollisista virheistä mitä tällaisen työn tekemisessä voi tehdä. Keskeinen havaintoni mahdollisimman hyvän syntetisaattorisoundin tekemisestä tämän työn perusteella on tunnistaa soundin rooli
