  • Aviation Regulator DGCA on Saturday Suspended a First Officer of Spice
1 Revue de presse du 29 aout au 13 septembre 2019 Mumbai: Aviation regulator DGCA on Saturday suspended a first officer of SpiceJet for three months for mishearing an Air Traffic Control clearance, due to which he gave incorrect direction to the pilot-in-command (PIC), causing runway incursion at Mumbai airport, said a source. "DGCA probe found that Atul Yadav, who was first officer on Surat-Mumbai flight on July 5, told the PIC that their plane was cleared by ATC to cross runway 14. The truth is the clearance was given to the IndiGo plane that was ahead of his plane," the source told PTI. The SpiceJet plane had the call sign SEJ2763. When the regulator issued a show-cause notice to Yadav on August 19, he responded by admitting his mistake and stating the incursion happened on July 5 because another plane with a similar call sign which was ahead of their plane had received the ATC clearance to cross runway 14, the source said. The aircraft ahead of the SpiceJet plane was of IndiGo and it had a call sign IGO063, the source said. 31/08/19 PTI/Business Today New Delhi: In the last 2.5 years, IndiGo Airbus A320 Neos have on an average seen one faulty Pratt & Whitney (PW) engines powering these planes being changed every week. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has in a RTI reply said 126 PW engines on IndiGo Neos have been replaced from 2016 to June 30, 2019. The almost once-a-week average of faulty engine replacement comes with 46 engines being replaced in calendar years 2017, 2018 each and 27 in the first six months of this year (remaining 7 in 2016).

Cutting Edge: Aerospace and Defence Cutting Edge: Aerospace and Defence Editorial Dear readers, Greetings for the second quarter of 2018-19! I am delighted to present the 37th edition of Cutting Edge, PwC India’s Aerospace and Defence newsletter. Through this quarterly publication, we update our valued clients with news and analysis of the latest developments in the aerospace and defence sector in India. In the last quarter, there were several events—a proposed new defence production policy, amendments in offset guidelines, the revival of MMRCA and Digi Yatra scheme to digitise the boarding process. The Centre has granted enhanced financial powers to the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to help the organisation increase its efficiency as well as effectiveness. The DRDO chief can now sanction projects or procurements up to 150 crore INR (as against the 75 crore INR cap), while the DGs can sanction projects up to 75 crore INR (up from 50 crore INR). This step should hopefully speed up decision making in DRDO. With Russia coming under the radar of Countering America’s Adversaries through Sanctions Act (CAATSA), there may be hindrance in Indo-Russia military programmes. India’s potential procurement deals from Russia, particularly the S-400 air defence system, Project 1135.6 frigates and Ka226T helicopters, will come under the radar of US authorities. CAATSA’s could also affect the joint ventures (JVs) such as—Indo Russian Aviation Ltd, Multi-Role Transport Aircraft Ltd. and Brahmos Aerospace. The Act’s implementation would also affect India’s purchase of spare parts, components, raw materials and other support for which Indian entities are dependent on Russia for domestic licence manufacturing and upkeep of existing equipment.

1 Revue de presse Semaines 49 & 50 (3-16 décembre 2018) Kannur: The long wait is over, and the dream has come true. Finally, Kannur International Airport (KIAL) has taken wings with the maiden flight by Air India Express to Abu Dhabi. Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan and union minister for civil aviation Suresh Prabhu flagged off the first aircraft at 10.06 am on Sunday, carrying 185 passengers, thus crossing yet another milestone in the aviation history of the nation, by commissioning the fourth international airport in the state. Later, addressing a public meeting, Pinarayi Vijayan, who formally inaugurated the facility, said when the idea of the airport evolved way back in 1990s, there was apprehension whether it would be practical to have an airport here. But now the airport has been materialized and it has the potential to become one of the most important 4-5 airports in the country. He also said the Kerala government is ready to take over Thiruvananthapuram airport, since the central government has decided to privatise it. In the case of Kozhikode airport also the government has the same stand, as it has experience in managing airports, said the chief minister. Union minister Suresh Prabhu, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said this airport is a very good model of development with the central and state governments having stake in it. Observing that connectivity is a pre-requisite for development, the minister also said Kerala has the highest potential for growth.
