Two hundred years of statehood! We have learned many things about our political and historical heritage, but I believe that Indiana still has many secrets that need to be learned. Here at the library we have some beautiful books that will help you explore the natural history of our great state. “The Natural Heritage of Indiana,” edited by Marion T. Jackson, takes us on a lively jaunt through the terrain of our great state. To my delight, the very first picture in Part One is of the “Honeycomb Rock” at Pine Hills Nature Preserve in the southwestern part of Montgomery County. Glaciation and its effects on our landscape are explained in detail, which helps me to understand all the rock formations I come across while exploring some of our nationally renowned state parks. Throughout this section, written by Henry Gray, we are taken on several tours of Indiana. He describes the terrain as if he were driving along highways and illustrates his discussion with appropriate topographical maps. Our soil and water, wetlands and caves — all these give our state its unique stamp on the map of our nation. Beautiful photographs of the flora and fauna of Indiana fill the pages of this coffee table book. I could spend hours just turning its pages, learning about the native plants and animals with which we share our land. We have recently acquired two copies of “A Place Called Turkey Run — A Celebration of Indiana’s Second State Park in Photographs and Words,” by Daniel P.

    Steve Ripley A rock and roll legend in our own backyard who has worked with some of the greats. Chapter 01 – 1:16 Introduction Announcer: Steve Ripley grew up in Oklahoma, graduating from Glencoe High School and Oklahoma State University. He went on to become a recording artist, record producer, song writer, studio engineer, guitarist, and inventor. Steve worked with Bob Dylan playing guitar on The Shot of Love album and on The Shot of Love tour. Dylan listed Ripley as one of the good guitarist he had played with. Red Dirt was first used by Steve Ripley’s band Moses when the group chose the label name Red Dirt Records. Steve founded Ripley Guitars in Burbank, California, creating guitars for musicians like Jimmy Buffet, J. J. Cale, and Eddie Van Halen. In 1987, Steve moved to Tulsa to buy Leon Russell’s recording facility, The Church Studio. Steve formed the country band The Tractors and was the cowriter of the country hit “Baby Like to Rock It.” Under his own record label Boy Rocking Records, Steve produced such artists as The Tractors, Leon Russell, and the Red Dirt Rangers. Steve Ripley was sixty-nine when he died January 3, 2019. But you can listen to Steve talk about his family story, his introduction to music, his relationship with Bob Dylan, dining with the Beatles, and his friendship with Leon Russell. Princess Mononoke’ s early reception in the West was characterized by a focus on the fi lm’s provenance and attendant issues of cultural translation. Across the intervening years, however, there has been a distinct shift in the frames of reference employed by Western critics to dis- cuss the fi lm, and in this respect it functions as signifi cant marker of changing attitudes towards anime in Western contexts of reception. Th is chapter tracks the evolving status of Princess Mononoke by considering the fl uctuating valu- ations of the fi lm across a 19- year period.
