Weekly List of Planning Consultations 10.09.2020 CONSERVATION CASES PROCESSED BY THE GARDENS TRUST 10.09.2020 This is a list of all the conservation consultations that The Gardens Trust has logged as receiving over the past week, consisting mainly, but not entirely, of planning applications. Cases in England are prefixed by ‘E’ and cases in Wales with ‘W’. When assessing this list to see which cases CGTs may wish to engage with, it should be remembered that the GT will only be looking at a very small minority. It explains the historical processes that created the modern physical environment, concentrating on such matters as the form and location of villages, farms and hamlets, the character of fields, woods and commons, and the varied forms of churches, vernacular houses, and great houses with their associated parks and gardens. But we also use these features, in turn, as forms of historical evidence in their own right, to throw important new light on key debates in social, economic and environmental history. Our focus is not entirely on the rural landscape. Most Hertfordshire people, like the majority of their fellows elsewhere in the country, live in towns and suburbs, and these too – although often created relatively recently – are a part of the county’s historic landscape and have a story to tell. The purpose of this opening chapter is to set the scene, explaining some of the physical contexts and broad patterns of historical development which form the essential background to the more detailed studies presented in the chapters that follow.

  • 20 Chalkhill Blue Species Action Plan
A Biodiversity Action Plan for Hertfordshire 20 CHALKHILL BLUE SPECIES ACTION PLAN 20.1 INTRODUCTION The Chalkhill Blue butterfly Lysandra coridon lives in discrete, isolated colonies, which may contain tens of thousands of individuals or only tens. Adults, particularly males can fly for over a kilometre, but females are usually more sedentary limiting colonisation of new sites. The species has only one generation a year in Britain. The adults emerge in mid-late July and will be on the wing until the end of August or start of September. Eggs are laid singly, low down on large vigorous clumps of Horseshoe Vetch Hippocrepis comosa, which is the only larval foodplant. The larvae hatch the following spring, feeding at night. Pupation occurs after about 2 months on the ground. Older larvae and the pupae make secretions which attract ants, including the Yellow Meadow Ant Lasius flavus, a species which requires bare ground. The ants give them protection at this vulnerable stage of the life cycle and may take the pupae below ground. As the name of this butterfly implies, it is the typical species of the southern English chalklands and in Britain breeds solely on unimproved chalk grasslands. The species prefers a short, sparse vegetation, with patches of bare disturbed chalk soils, where the larval foodplant, Horseshoe Vetch, thrives. 20.2 CURRENT STATUS The Chalkhill Blue is found throughout Europe as far north as Britain and south to central Spain, France and Italy. In Britain it used to occur as far north as Lincolnshire, but today is found on the chalk and limestone hills from the Cotswolds and Chilterns southwards, with northern outlyers around Cambridge.

The Bishop of Bedford took the Bishop’s Harvest Appeal to a new audience for this year’s Bedfordshire launch: offenders on Community Payback. About a dozen Bedfordshire younger offenders heard about the 2013 appeal, for Ethiopian bee-keepers, at St Botolph’s, Apsley Guise. Afterwards, they had a chance to inspect some bees kept by the Rector, the Revd Graham Bradshaw, and hear about the threats to the bee population across the world. As the Bishop of St Albans says in his introduction to the appeal: ‘Albert Einstein observed that if the bee disappeared off the face of the earth, humanity would only have four years left to live.’ So helping the bee in any part of the world is helping the whole of humanity. The unusual audience took a keen interest in the struggle of Ethiopian farmers to modernise their equipment and methods for one of Ethiopia’s traditional farm products: honey. A project, run by Christian Aid with a local partner, Action For Development, provides Ethiopian bee-keepers with new hives and helps them to aggregate in co-operatives, improving the local productivity and profitability of their honey production many times over, at very low cost.

  • Section 5: Admission Rules for Community and Voluntary-Controlled
The Astley Cooper School Admission arrangements for 2016/17 The school will have a published admission number of 180. Section 324 of the Education Act 1996 requires the governing bodies of all maintained schools to admit a child with a statement of special educational needs that names their school. All schools must also admit children with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) that names the school. The evidence must relate specifically to the school applied for under Rule 2 and must clearly demonstrate why it is the only school that can meet the child’s needs. Rule 3 Sibling: Children who have a sibling at the school at the time of application, unless the sibling is in the last year of the normal age-range of the school. Note: the ‘normal age range’ is the designated range for which the school provides, for example Years 7 to 11 in a 11-16 secondary school, Years 7 to 13 in a 11-18 school.
