Deana Carter DEANA CARTER, the daughter of famed studio guitarist and producer Fred Carter, Jr., grew up surrounded by musical greats, including Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, Waylon Jennings, and Simon & Garfunkel. She developed her songwriting skills at writer’s nights throughout Nashville, but her real break came when one of her demo tapes fell into the hands of Willie Nelson, who remembered Deana as a child. Impressed with how she’d grown as a songwriter, Nelson asked Deana to perform along with John Mellencamp, Kris Kristofferson, and Neil Young, as the only female solo artist to appear at Farm Aid VII in 1994. Her 1996 debut album Did I Shave My Legs for This? quickly climbed to the top of both the country and pop charts, quickly achieving multi-platinum status. "Strawberry Wine,” the first single from the album, was awarded CMA's 1997 Single of the Year. Seven albums and a decade later, Deana is still writing and producing for both the pop/rock and country markets when not on the road touring. Her superstar success continues to be evident. Her chart topper “You & Tequila,” co-written with Matraca Berg and recorded by Kenny Chesney, was nominated in 2011 as CMA’s “Song of the Year” and received two Grammy nods. Carter also recently co-wrote and produced a new album for recording artist Audra Mae while putting the finishing touches on her own Southern Way of Life that hit the shelves last December. When Steve Stewart, director of operations for Cox Media Group Orlando and PD at “K92.3” WWKA, first heard Parmalee’s “Just the Way” feat. Blanco Brown in October 2019, he knew the band had a hit on its hands. It took more than a year for other stations to agree. Parmalee, who first played Stewart the song on a tour bus after an Orlando show, is No. 1 on this week’s Mediabase country chart — eight years after last topping the chart with “Carolina” in 2013. The band released “Just the Way” December 2019 and WWKA became the first station to add it the following month. • Humble and Kind By: Makayleigh Lackey
Humble and Kind By: MaKayleigh Lackey “That was the dumbest answer I’ve ever heard! Maybe you should be in the CDC classes!” The hateful comment resounded throughout the room, dripping malice from every syllable. My friend, trying to make a joke, had uttered something so hurtful that it had shattered my heart. The students around him laughed, too afraid to comment on his rudeness. The room seemed to close in around me. My brain screamed not to confront my friend, but my heart was saying stand up for the CDC students who were not there to defend themselves. It felt like I had been drowning in a cold sweat for hours before I finally spoke up. “Being in the CDC classes doesn’t mean being dumb. That wasn’t a very nice thing to say.” As the last word rolled off my tongue, I felt an overwhelming sense of relief wash over me. My classmates sat in embarrassed silence, marveling at my bravery. Although it was extremely hard to stand up to a friend, I knew in my heart that I had done the right thing. After this confrontation, I began noticing snide comments like this throughout every class and hallway. My heart grew more fragmented after each comment I heard from my peers. That first, fateful afternoon faded to the back of my mind, but stayed ever so present in my heart. I was soon blessed with an opportunity to share my set of ethics with my school: designing a video for our CDC students. This video would stress the importance of treating the CDC students equally.

50 Redfish! Big Bend! Bighorn Sheep! And the Next Fifty! These are just a few of the wild things and wild places that will be celebrated on Saturday, March 29, 2014 when Texas Parks and Wildlife will present the Texas Conservation Hall of Fame at the Friedkin Corporate Campus in Houston, Texas. This year’s dinner will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and will feature special guest entertainment Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. It promises to be an extraordinary night that will honor 50 years of conserving Texas’ wild things and wild places, generate critical support for priority projects that meaningfully conserve Texas’ rich lands, waters and wildlife, and explore what the next 50 years may have in store. The Conservation Hall of Fame benefits Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation, whose mission is to conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for current and future generations. As you may know, last year’s Hall of Fame raised an unprecedented $1 million for conservation, advancing priority projects like the reestablishment of a healthy Pronghorn population in the Trans-Pecos; conserving Texas rivers; safeguarding the endangered Kemp’s ridley sea turtle; and supporting Texas State Parks to connect families back to nature. We hope you can join us in making the 2014 Conservation Hall of Fame a celebration to remember. It is a special opportunity to provide a fitting tribute to one of our state’s most outstanding organizations, safeguard Texas’ exceptional natural treasures, and enjoy a spectacular evening among like-minded friends.

Chuck Berry. Allen Toussaint. Oddly, Blackwell and Presley never met. Miss Americana is a documentary about her life and career. View Product. Thanks to his writerly skills, Kristofferson's hang-dog tales of screwups, hangovers, regret and redemption had the epochal feel of novellas, and without him, there would probably be no Steve Earle, Sturgill Simpson or similar country hippies. But large-scale success as a performer eluded him. I try not to record them [when] I first hear them. Add to Wishlist. Although Swift avoided discussing her personal life in interviews, she was surprisingly frank in her music. We made it. Featuring an introduction from McGraw and an epilogue by the songwriter Lori McKenna, Humble and Kind is a deeply affecting call to action, and the perfect memento for millions of graduates, parents, and children across the continent. Berry was a Muddy Waters fan who quickly learned the power of his own boundary-crossing "songs of novelties and feelings of fun and frolic" when he transformed a country song, "Ida Red," into his first single, "Maybellene," a Top Five pop hit. That said, there are at least two layers to this book that offer greater depth for those who are willing to look for it.

Marv Green, a Southern California native, moved to Nashville in March of 1993. Within 6 months, Marv’s songwriting caught the attention of producer Scott Hendricks, who signed Marv to a publishing deal with Big Tractor and Warner Chappell music.
