  • Roots-Stjerneskuddet Valerie June Betager I VEGA
Hendes uafrystelige stemme fangede opmærksomheden hos producer Kevin Augunas (Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Florence & The Machine). Sammen med The Black Keys-forsangeren Dan Auerbach indspillede de debutalbummet Pushin’ Against a Stone. Sydstatssumpe og ikoner Førstesinglen fra albummet er den standhaftige blues-pop-hymne ”Workin’ Woman Blues”.

169 16. The Heresies of John Paul II, the most traveled man in history and perhaps the most heretical Jewish maestro Gilbert Levine, telling CNN’s Larry King about John Paul II: “KING: The pope congratulated your children's bar mitzvahs? “LEVINE: Not only congratulate us, he sent us a menorah. “KING: He sent you a menorah? “LEVINE: He gave it to us, actually, didn't send it. Actually gave us a menorah. I think it's from the 16th century in Prague. It's the most beautiful menorah. He sent a letter on the occasion of each of my son's bar mitzvahs. He also had the cardinal in charge of Catholic/Jewish relations send a letter that was read out in my Orthodox shul on the occasion of my son's recent bar mitzvah, and the rabbi read it as if it were from a rabbi.” 1 Karol Wojtyla (John Paul II) claimed to be the pope from 1978-2005 THE HERESIES OF JOHN PAUL II The Heresies of John Paul II 170 John Paul II taught universal salvation, that all men will be saved The only difficulty in discussing the heresies of John Paul II is deciding where to begin. His heresies are so numerous that one is almost overwhelmed with the decision of where to start. A good place to begin is his consistent teaching of universal salvation. The idea that all men are saved is contrary to the clear words of the Gospel and numerous Catholic dogmas, especially the dogmas that Outside the Catholic Church there is no salvation and that all who die in original sin or mortal sin cannot be saved.

  • VIETNAM VETERAN THEATRICAL NARRATIVES by Amanda Boyle Submitted to the Graduate Degree Program In
MEN, MEMORY, AND MEMORIAL: VIETNAM VETERAN THEATRICAL NARRATIVES By Amanda Boyle Submitted to the graduate degree program in Theatre and the Graduate Faculty of the University of Kansas in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. ________________________________ Chairperson Henry Bial ________________________________ Jane Barnette ________________________________ Rebecca Rovit ________________________________ Nicole Hodges Persley ________________________________ Adrian Lewis Date Defended: May 9, 2016 The Dissertation Committee for Amanda Boyle certifies that this is the approved version of the following dissertation: MEN, MEMORY, AND MEMORIAL: VIETNAM VETERAN THEATRICAL NARRATIVES ________________________________ Chairperson Henry Bial Date approved: May 12, 2016 ii Abstract This dissertation is a study of Vietnam War veteran narratives and how they are presented on stage. I argue that these plays are a form of commemoration of the Vietnam War and those who fought in it. I eXamine three plays: Medal of Honor Rag (1976) by Tom Cole, Still Life (1982) by Emily Mann, and Tracers (1983) by John DiFusco, et al. There are hundreds of plays and musicals written directly about the war. Through a dramaturgical methodology I combine teXtual analysis, production research, interviews with two of the three playwrights, academic scholarship on the plays, my own staged reading of Still Life in February 2015, and select oral/written histories from Vietnam veterans to illustrate how the plays function as commemorative-storytelling of the veteran experience. Each chapter is a dramaturgical case study that could be used for production. The plays each have a wide range of topics, motifs, and themes, many of which I address, including the overlapping themes of wounding (moments of injury and psychological repercussions), coming home (surviving the war and returning home), and commemorating (via medals and memorials).

  • Press Record and Just Get the Hell out of the Way.”
MAVIS STAPLES “I’m the messenger,” Mavis Staples says on the eve of her 80th birthday. “That’s my job—it has been for my whole life—and I can’t just give up while the struggle’s still alive. We’ve got more work to do, so I’m going to keep on getting stronger and keep on delivering my message every single day.” That message—a clarion call to love, to faith, to justice, to brotherhood, to joy—lies at the heart of ‘We Get By,’ Staples’ spectacular twelfth studio album and first full-length collaboration with multi-GRAMMY Award-winner Ben Harper. Backed by her longtime touring band, Staples breathes extraordinary life into Harper’s compositions on the record, delivering roof-raising performances with both a youthful vigor and a commanding maturity. The arrangements here are spare but weighty, matched by Harper’s suitably lean and thoughtful production, and Staples seizes the opportunity to showcase her remarkable and continued evolution as an artist, one still growing and exploring more than half a century into her storied career. ‘We Get By’ is undoubtedly a timely collection, arriving such as it does in the face of deep social divisions and heightened political tensions, but like everything Staples touches, it’s also larger than any particular moment, a timeless appeal to the better angels of our nature that’s universal in its reach and unwavering in its assurance of better things to come. “When I first started reading the lyrics Ben wrote for me, I said to myself, ‘My God, he’s saying everything that needs to be said right now,’” Staples remembers.
