NATIONAL Uttarakhand CM launched free milk scheme for Anganwadi children  Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has launched the Mukhyamantri Anchal Amrit Yojana in Dehradun.  Under the Amrit Yojana, 2.5 lakh children (at 20,000 Anganwadi kendras) will be given 100 ml milk twice a week for free in the state. WB CM announced a new scheme ‘Yuvashree Arpan’ for employment of youth  West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee announced a grant of 1 lakh to graduates of the state‟s 214 polytechnics and Industrial Training Institutes (ITI), to set up small businesses.  The CM also introduced the scheme, Yuvashree Arpan, in Howrah district. Nation pays tribute to Gandhiji on the 89th Anniversary of historical Dandi March  On this day (12th March) in the year 1930, Mahatma Gandhi embarked a historic Salt March from Sabarmati Ashram in Gujarat's Ahmedabad to the village of Dandi in the state's coastal area to protest against the steep tax the British levied on salt.  The significant march came to be known as Dandi March or Salt March, also referred as the Dandi Satyagraha. 4th Internet of things Congress to be held in Bengaluru  The 4th IoT India Congress will be held in Bengaluru in August 2019.  IoT India Congress is an event which will see digital technology leaders converge to discuss and explore business opportunities in mainstreaming Internet of Things (IoT),  The IoT India Congress 2019 will include tracks on segments such as healthcare, manufacturing, telecom, smart cities, energy, retail, cybersecurity, skills and development, IoT Standards, legal and regulatory, and agriculture. Geographical Indication Tag: Arecanut gets its first GI tag for ‘Sirsi Supari’  Arecanut, known as supari or betel nut, made its entry in the list of agricultural produce for the first time with the Geographical Indication (GI) tag for „Sirsi Supari‟.  The GI tag was accorded by the Registrar of Geographical Indications in the first week of March 2019.  The „Sirsi Supari‟ is grown in Sirsi, Siddpaur and Yellapur taluks of Uttara Kannada district in Karnataka.  A Geographical Indication (GI) tag is a name or sign used on products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation of that origin. It can be a town, a region, or a country.  The use of a geographical indication acts as a certification that the product possesses certain qualities, is made according to traditional methods, and enjoys a certain reputation due to its geographical origin. INTERNATIONAL Palestinian president appoints Mohammad Shtayyeh as new PM  Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has chosen Dr. Mohammad Shtayyeh (60-years) as the new prime minister of Palestinian.  Earlier in January, Mr Abbas accepted the resignation of outgoing Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah. New visa agreement between Maldives & India  The new visa agreement between Maldives & India has come into force that will allow Maldivian tourists to stay in India for 90 days without a visa.  Maldivians with tourist visas can also stay in India for treatment if they suffer a sudden medical issue. India launched third IT corridor in China  India launched its third IT corridor in China to facilitate partnerships between Indian and Chinese companies.  National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) entered into a partnership with China‟s Xuzhou city from Jiangsu Province in China to help develop the IT corridor.  The corridor will facilitate match-making between Indian companies wanting to collaborate with companies in China.

PM Modi, Sheikh Hasina jointly inaugurated development projects  Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina jointly unveiled e- plaques for development projects in Bangladesh through video conferencing.  Both the leaders launched the e-plaques for these projects in Bangladesh:  Supply of buses and trucks  Inauguration of 36 community clinics  Inauguration of 11 water treatment plants  Extension of National Knowledge Network to Bangladesh  As per External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj, these projects "symbolise the breadth and depth of our partnership and also a reaffirmation of our Neighbourhood First Policy". India, which is the world’s largest consumer of gold, ranked 11th in Gold Holding, according to recently released World Gold Council (WGC) Report 2019.  The current holding of India has been pegged at 607 tonnes.  The top spot is occupied by the United States with Gold reserves of 8,133.5 tonnes, followed by Germany with 3,369.7 tonnes. India ECONOMY Korea Exim Bank extends Rs 4,100 crore loan for Vizag Metro  Korea Exim Bank has extended a Rs 4,100 crore loan for Visakhapatnam (VIZAG) Metro Rail project  The state government had earlier sent a proposal in this regard to the Central government, which in turn forwarded it to Korea Exim Bank. Bank of India raises Rs 660 crore by selling shares to employees  State-owned Bank of India (BoI) has raised Rs 660.80 crores by issuing shares to employees under Employee Share Purchase Scheme (ESPS).  The bank issued 6,25,52,188 shares of Rs 10 each to eligible employees . Bank of Baroda launches Daycare Facility for Children  Bank of Baroda has become the 1st public sector bank to launch a Child Daycare facility for children of its employees at its Mumbai corporate office which has more than 1500 employees.  Bank of Baroda will bear 60% of cost every month for each employee. Google Launches Youtube Music & Youtube Premium in India  Google launches YouTube Music (ad-supported), YouTube Music Premium (ad-free), YouTube Premium (ad-free) in India.  The monthly subscription of YouTube Music Premium costs Rs 99, and YouTube Premium is available at a monthly rental of Rs 129 in India. MISCELLANEOUS Pinaka guided weapons system successfully test fired  Defence Research and Development organisation, DRD0 successfully test fired the PINAKA guided WEAPON rocket system from Pokhran range in Rajasthan.  The weapon system is equipped with state-of-the-art guidance kit comprising of an advanced navigation and control system. The weapon systems impacted the intended targets with high precision and achieved desired accuracies. India is world’s second largest arms importer; Saudi Arabia tops the list: SIPRI Report  India is the second largest importer of weapons in the world, as per the annual report „Trends in International Arms Transfers-2018‟released on March 11, 2019 by the think tank Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).  After maintaining its position of world‟s largest arms importer for about 8 years, India dropped down to be the second largest importer of weapons during 2014-18.  Saudi Arabia is now the world‟s largest weapons importer.
