Prior to joining Fairfield in Vintage Italian race car 1997, she taught at Wesleyan and Yale. In Spring 2019 Professor Carolan held the Tiro a Segno Visiting Professorship in Italian American Studies at New York University. At Fairfield Professor Carolan teaches a wide variety of courses on Italian culture, literature and film with a particular focus on the intersections between Italy and the United States. Her course entitled "Made in Italy" examines Italian genius in food, design, and fashion, including the history of innovative automotive design at FIAT, Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Ducati, Piaggio and Vespa.
