Expanding on the power of Kelelas’ vocals in the club, this deluxe edition revisits underground anthems with dramatic reinterpretations. With 22 tracks in total, ‘Cut 4 Me: Deluxe Edition’ is the definitive version of Kelela’s breakout record. ‘Cut 4 Me’ followed Kelela through heartbreak, melancholy and the subsequent finding of resolve in order to go on fighting. The remixes explore five of the original songs, each pushing them in exhilarating new directions. Kingdom’s aptly titled ‘Destruction Before Paradise’ mix is a war chant for the brokenhearted, an enraged, pulsing halftime take on ‘Enemy’. Girl Unit’s ‘Send Me Out’ remix places Kelela’s vocals over a supple synth lead, only dusted by incredibly restrained percussion. Nguzunguzu’s very different take on ‘Send Me Out’ captures the feeling of a their legendary live performances, the stuttering acapella slowly giving way into a crisp grime beat. Jam City’s mix remakes his own original production ‘Keep it Cool’ into a personal VIP. After a featured role on Teengirl Fantasy's "EFX," vocalist and songwriter Kelela opened for Solange and subsequently bailed on her day job to focus on music. In May 2013, she appeared on "Bank Head," one of Ezra Rubin's characteristically sparse but sharp percussion workouts as Kingdom. Five months later, Kelela returned with this free download, released through Rubin's Night Slugs sister label Fade to Mind. It contains the extended mix of "Bank Head," as well as a pair of additional collaborations with Rubin, and the other productions come from artists within Night Slugs' orbit. While Kelela applied her touch to finished instrumentals -- she and the producers were never in the same room -- these pairings with the likes of Girl Unit, Jam City, Nguzunguzu, Bok Bok, and Morri$ sound natural. Kelela fulfills her desire to make what resembles a remix album with presumably straightforward originals left to one's imagination. Indeed, most of these tracks, typical of Night Slugs' predominantly instrumental releases -- skeletal and percussive, restlessly flitting between stealth and violent -- end up akin to updates of Colourbox's "Nation" and elements of the remix counterpart to Janet Jackson's "Control." Unlike most album-length remix projects, however, there's never any sense of a disconnect between the music and the vocals. Kelela's expressive and athletic voice easily slithers between and coasts over the beats. On "Enemy," she attacks beside hammering drums and cocking effects, while the set's last three tracks -- all shadowy slow jams -- get restrained, whispery turns that are as heated as the more aggressive moments. Earlier, she sweetly aches, "I need to feel you in my arms, all this mixed emotion breaks me down and makes me want to cry," yet she spits fire -- "You want it back?/I'll keep the best of me now" -- with equal skill. Consequentially, while the role of album art has evolved to meet the changes in music technology, it is hard to measure the effect of digital streaming on modern album art. This research seeks to determine whether or not graphic design still plays a role in marketing information about the music, such as its genre, to the consumer. It does so through two studies: 1. A computer visual analysis that measures color dominance of an image, and 2. A mixed-design lab experiment with volunteer participants who attempt to assess the genre of a given album. Findings from the first study show that color scheme models created from album samples cannot be used to predict the genre of an album. Further findings from the second theory show that consumers pay a significant amount of attention to album covers, enough to be able to correctly assess the genre of an album most of the time.

Each composer will receive $500 to write the work, and each performer will receive $500 to perform the work, with the rights to stream for six months. With these seven premieres, ACO aims to support artists who need financial assistance; to create new work that will live beyond this crisis; and to provide virtual, interactive performances to ACO’s supporters and the general public. Premieres of the new works will take place each Sunday at 5pm EST, beginning Sunday, April 19, 2020 at 5pm EST with violinist Miranda Cuckson performing a new work by Ethan Iverson, hosted on Zoom.
