Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central MN Youth Mentor - Big Brothers Big Sisters is a 1:1 youth mentoring organization that reaches out to children facing adversity by providing them with a caring, qualified volunteer mentor. Mentors meet with their “Littles” three to four times a month. Matches enjoy playing board games, bowling, going to movies, doing arts & crafts, playing sports, fishing, and many other fun activities. Opportunities to be a Big Brother, Big Sister, Big Couple or Big Family. Both Community matches (3-4 hrs/wk) and School-Based matches (2 hrs /wk in a school setting - available in Big Lake schools) are needed. (12/19) Elk River YMCA Kids’ Stuff – Do you like hanging around the energy of children ages 6 weeks to 10 years? If you enjoy reading to or playing with young children or rocking the littlest ones all while helping to tend to their needs, this might be for you! Volunteer at the Elk River YMCA in the child care area while parents access the facility. Serve a 2 – 2.5-hour shift as little as once per month. Help make whole families happier and healthier… and have fun doing it! (1/20) Garden Tending/Harvest – In the summertime, the Elk River YMCA is in need of gardeners to maintain the late summer garden and assist with harvesting produce when it is time. Produce is either used for the youth program at the YMCA or donated to CAER food shelf. Weed, water, harvest and put the garden to bed for the winter. Needed about 2 hours each week. (1/20) MOPS Kids (Mothers of Preschoolers) Master Cuddler/Rockstar Rocker – The Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) group meets at Central Lutheran Church in Elk River on two Thursday mornings each month for 2 ½ hours during the school year. The group is looking for those who love to cuddle and rock children under 2 years old. Volunteers will serve on a team of 3-4 adults who are with the children during parent support time in an adjacent room. Volunteers will play with children and provide a safe, caring environment for them while parents are learning together. Volunteers are never responsible for diaper changing or calming an inconsolable or ill child. Volunteers are also needed in rooms for preschoolers if that age is preferred. Needed 8:45am- 11:30am two Thursdays a month. (1/20)

Open Doors for Youth Homeless Youth Drop-In Team – Open Doors for Youth is an afternoon drop-in center in Elk River for homeless youth. On-Site Team members work directly with young people to provide a safe, warm and welcoming atmosphere for the youth who visit. The primary task of the volunteer is to be present for the youth to guide them through meeting their immediate needs of clothing, food and supportive conversation. When youth are not present volunteers assist with sorting donations, doing dishes, cleaning and office projects, as needed. Service shifts are 2-4 hours while the center is open: 2-6pm Monday - Friday. Center supervisors are present with volunteers. Training and ongoing support is provided. A weekly commitment is preferred. (1/20) Reader’s Theatre *See entry also in Education - Children & Youth Reading with Gusto! Use your expressive voice and smiling face to demonstrate to young children just how important and fun reading can be! Readers will do reading events as a group in ISD 727 & 728 elementary schools as requested. Must be available for daytime practices 1-2 times per month and events 2-4 times per month. Based in Elk River. (1/20) Rivers of Hope Play Time - Rivers of Hope, a support center for those dealing with domestic violence, is seeking volunteers to play with and supervise children in a nursery while their parent(s) attend a support group in the same building. One or more evenings per month from 5:30-7:30 PM. Needed Tuesdays in Monticello. Permission for Rivers of Hope to conduct a criminal background check is required. (1/20)

DISASTER SERVICES

American Red Cross Disaster Action Team Dispatcher – Receive training to field emergency calls to the Red Cross for local disasters (typically a house fire. Find and contact the nearest Red Cross Volunteer Responder to travel to the scene. Serve two 8 hour on-call shifts per month. Volunteer must have phone and internet access always during on-call shift. (1/20) Disaster Action Team Responder - Receive training to be the Red Cross representative at a local disaster (typically a house fire). Volunteer will be equipped to and offer the full spectrum of Red Cross services to those affected by the incident, including shelter, clothing and food. (1/20)

AARP Tax Prep Tax Preparation Assistant - Assist those with low income, disabilities and the elderly to prepare their taxes. Training and materials provided by AARP in Nov and Dec each year. Three days of training and testing in January will prepare volunteers for the following tax season. Most taxes are e-filed at a public location. Reimbursements provided. (1/20)

Metro North Adult Basic Education Adult Basic Education - Adult Basic Education – Many adults in the Elk River area are working hard to learn the English language. From those who speak no English to those who are working on writing the language. Some are studying subjects in English to earn their high school diploma equivalent. Volunteers are needed to assist these students on a one-to-one basis under the direction of an Adult Basic Education instructor. Training and guidance provided. Find out if one of the morning, afternoon or evening classroom times needs a regular volunteer and fits your schedule. Eager students from around the world are waiting to meet you right here in Elk River! (1/20) Conversation Circle – Join in a Conversation Circle with adults learning to speak English and other current English-speaking volunteers. Through group discussion cover vocabulary for beginners and pronunciation and conversation with advanced students. Patient listening skills, an encouraging manner, and an open-mindedness to other cultures are a must for volunteers. Group meets at Handke Family Center in Elk River 1-2 hours per week on Tuesday mornings. During this time volunteers would first meet with beginning English learners, then have a separate time to converse with more advanced learners. Tues AM, 9:00 – 10:30 AM. (1/20)

Big Lake Elementary Schools – District 727 Elementary Student Buddy – Children flourish with any extra positive attention adults are willing to give. The gift of time in a child’s life never a poor gift! Big Lake Elementary schools are seeking volunteers who are 55+ to give this gift. Help students practice math facts; read 1:1 with struggling readers; share your technical skills in the STEAM program or help with a book fair. Just a couple hours a week spent with a volunteer can make a big difference to a child’s success. (1/20) Reader’s Theatre * See entry also in Children and Youth Activities Reading with Gusto! (1/20) Elk River Area Schools – District 728 Elementary Student Support – The earlier educators can identify young students at risk of falling behind in their education and match them with others who can give them extra support, the better. Help elementary students with reading, social studies, science, and spelling. Just a few hours a week spent with a volunteer can make a big difference to a child’s success. (1/20) ECFE Classroom Volunteer – If you enjoy being around kids and can foster positive relationships with children, Early Childhood Family Education is the place for you! Support ECFE in the classroom by helping with set up/clean up, interact with children and their parents from birth to age 5, and engage students by supporting their learning during class time. Flexible scheduling available. (1/20) Discovery Learning Volunteer – Spend time fostering positive relationships with children ages 3 – 5 in the Discovery Learning Preschool. Time can be spent facilitating small groups, helping children prepare to go outside, and help them in their learning. Must be able to follow teacher guidance and have positive communication skills. Time commitment is 3hrs/week either in mornings or afternoons. (1/20)

ENVIRONMENT & OUTDOORS CAER Food Shelf Green Team – CAER, the food shelf in Elk River, is seeking a few volunteers willing to dedicate a few hours to assist with tidying up the grounds around their facility. Weeds, leaves, sticks, debris...CAER is not immune from the mundane yard work which needs to happen in outdoor spaces. Meet with the Volunteer Coordinator to discuss what CAER would like taken care of. Set your own hours on a day when the weather is how you like it for outdoor tasks. Come once or offer to check-in on an ongoing basis to help when needed. (1/20) Friends of Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge Eagle’s Nest Nature Store – The Eagle’s Nest Nature store at the Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge is open during special events or for gatherings scheduled in the Refuge Oak Savanna Learning Center. Volunteers are needed to staff the store when open. Keep store tidy, assist customers with purchases, and provide general Refuge information. Shifts may be 2-5 hours long, depending on the event. Events may happen on evenings and/or weekends. Store Volunteers work in pairs. (1/20) Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge Think Outdoors! Think Wildlife! – Do you love the outdoors? Are you a wildlife watcher, native plant supporter, or environmental enthusiast? If so, get ready for fall by offering to volunteer at the Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge. Volunteer positions include Wildlife Interpreter, Environmental Education Leader or Assistant, Seed Collector, Trail & Road Maintenance, Event Assistant, and more. New volunteers will attend an individual training session with the volunteer coordinator before their first shift. Training times depend on volunteer position and scheduling. (1/20) Environmental Education – Share your love of the outdoors with students of all ages at the Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge in Sherburne County. When school groups visit the Refuge, volunteers are needed to lead and assist programs at the Oak Savanna Learning Center as well as outdoors. Volunteers are needed for adult programs and outreach, off-site events as well. Volunteers needed primarily in the fall and spring for about 3 hours 1-2 times per month however time commitment varies with the scheduling of each group. All topics, materials and training provided. (1/20) Event Planning/Promotion – Do you enjoy putting your planning and organization talents to use? Do you value our local natural resources and wildlife? The Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge holds many free, educational events for both adults and children each year, from Wildlife Festival to Wildflower Tours, from the fall Crane Tours to the Christmas Bird Count. These events need additional volunteers willing to attend to the details of planning and promotion. Staff at the Refuge will be available to give guidance, direction and a historical perspective on past events. (1/20) Wildlife Interpreter – Do you love the outdoors? Are you a bird watcher? A wildflower enthusiast? Would you like to encourage others to see the joy in nature? If so, come spend 3 hours per week at the Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge doing just that. Volunteers should have a valid driver’s license, passion for nature, willingness to learn native Refuge plant and animals, good communication skills and the ability to interact with a variety of people visiting the Refuge. (1/20) Litter “Ridder” – Do you enjoy walking in the outdoors? Consider helping Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge be clear from litter by “adopting” an area of the refuge in which to do litter pick-up. Your commitment can be during spring, summer or fall on an annual or one-time basis. You may also commit to monthly clean up on a year-round basis. Choose a section of road, a trail, a fishing area, a parking area, a river, or an information kiosk. Can be done individually or in groups. (1/20) Seed Collector – Assist in the collection of native, flowering seeds or grasses growing on the Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge. Training provided. Flexible schedule (June-September). Collecting is done individually or in small groups. (1/20)

Special Events Assistant – Do you enjoy the fun of a festival? Assist with one of the special events offered at Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge. Serve on the planning committee for in depth involvement, or simply help for a couple hours at the festival itself. Activities needing help includes nature crafts, parking, hospitality, guided tours, staff a booth, and snowshoe check-out, just to name a few. (1/20) Data Entry/Clerical Assistant – Volunteers will either help with general clerical activities, such as copying, filing, mailings or data entry. Data entry requires a comfort level with computer operation and attention to detail. Volunteers are scheduled on an as-needed basis. (1/20) Front Desk/Reception Volunteer -- Front desk volunteers are responsible for greeting the public by answering phones and receiving visitors at the refuge headquarters building. After orientation, you will be asked to answer general questions about Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge, the wildlife it contains, and the recreational opportunities available to the public. Staff will be present whenever you are on shift for more advanced questions or assistance. You may also assist with gift store sales or clerical tasks as needed. Front Desk Volunteers work a four-hour period from either 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., or 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. while the refuge headquarters is open. Front Desk Volunteers will usually work one shift every week, but they are welcome to work as infrequently or frequently depending on their schedule. (1/20) Photography Assistant – Take digital photography of all aspects of the Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge, including plants and animals, landscapes, visitors and special events. Volunteers use their own camera and give the photos to refuge staff to be used for Refuge promotion of many types. All activities will be coordinated with refuge staff. (1/20) FOOD & CLOTHING SERVICES

Big Lake Community Food Shelf Food Shelf Volunteer – Imagine not knowing when you’ll be able to get groceries. Having enough food in your household is so important! Help intake patrons to the Big Lake Community Food shelf, package food items, or “rescue” donated food from local retail stores in the cargo van. Must be able to commit to times the food shelf is open or when pick-up times are needed. Orientation and training is provided. (1/20) CAER Food Shelf Restock and Rotation – CAER (local food shelf) helps support patrons in our community with necessary food items who are otherwise unable to afford meals. Help by stocking and organizing the warehouse before shoppers visit, rotate produce and freezer items to ensure quality items, and help with inventory of food items. Time commitment is from 1-3 days a week for 2 – 3.5hours. Training and support is provided. Must have the ability to lift 20 pounds. (1/20) Sewing - CAER (local food shelf) is seeking volunteers to sew large, sturdy bags/totes for the summer Kidz Kitz program. Many children who receive meals at school during the school year are left without those meals in the summer. CAER will use the bags throughout the summer to distribute extra food to families with school age children. Heavy weight or light upholstery fabrics will be used. A variety of fabric patterns are welcome. Volunteers can supply their own fabric or there may be opportunity for CAER to provide fabric to be used. The bags have a minimum size required. CAER will provide a sample. (1/20) RSVP – Warm Fuzzies Project Warm Fuzzy Creators – Would you enjoy knitting or crocheting mittens for school age youth? RSVP Warm Fuzzy volunteers create mittens year-round to be distributed in the fall and winter to area agencies that work with youth. Use up your own excess yarn or get some from RSVP when it is available. (1/20)

Sherburne County Driver’s License and Recording Assistant – Waiting in line to submit paperwork is frustrating. It is even more so if all items are not complete when it is finally your turn! Sherburne County is seeking volunteers to be present during heavy public use times in the State Driver License and County Recorder service area at the Government Center in Elk River. Volunteers will be the first point of contact for those entering this area for service. Volunteers will direct customers to the correct service area and aid with completing forms and resources to accurately do so. Pre-service screening, orientation and training required. Shift Mon/Fri AM/PM, & midday Tu-Th. One 4-4.5-hour shift a week required. Contact RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program - volunteers 55+ preferred) (1/20) HEALTH CARE

CentraCare Health-Monticello Gift Gallery – Staff the Gift Gallery at the CentraCare Health Monticello campus. Process transactions and provide excellent customer service to hospital visitors. Weekly 4 hours shifts. Substitutes are also needed throughout the week when various shifts are open. (1/20) Hospital Information Desk – Provide information, directions, and assistance in a friendly, courteous manner to visitors and patients as they enter the CentraCare Monticello Hospital. Maintain lobby and check in with waiting patients and/or family members. 4 hour shifts seven days per week, morning and afternoon. (1/20) Care Center Information Desk – Provide information, directions, and assistance in a friendly, courteous manner to visitors and patients as they enter the CentraCare Monticello Care Center. Maintain lobby area. Complete light clerical tasks during quiet times at the desk. Three hour shifts seven days per week, morning and afternoon. (1/20) M Health Fairview Crochet/Knitter – Fairview Northland Medical Center is seeking volunteers to use their yarn skills to create prayer shawls for patients and/or their families. Knitting and crochet patterns and Lion Homespun yarn provided. Do this creative service in your own home at your own pace. (1/20) Guardian Angels Elim Home Care and Hospice Hospice Volunteer – Guardian Angels Elim has caring compassionate volunteers who a part of a team to support clients who are experiencing end of life challenges and their families. Volunteers may provide respite for caregivers, companionship, run errands, prepare meals or do light housekeeping. Volunteers are screen and training prior to service and supported along the way. (1/20) Pet Visitor – Time spent with a calm, gentle pet can bring relaxation and comfort! Do you have a calm, gentle pet you would like to share with someone experiencing time near the end of life? Guardian Angels- Elim Hospice wants to match you and your pet to their clients who enjoy pets and would welcome a visit. Be prepared to submit copies of current veterinary records for your pet. Additional hospice training also required. (1/20) Bring Music – There is nothing like music to calm and sooth the mind and soul! Bring music to those experiencing an end of life situation in the care of Guardian Angels-Elim Hospice who reside throughout the Elk River area. Whether you have a guitar, portable keyboard or a confident voice, you can be the one to calm and sooth through the shared love of music! Explore the possibilities! (1/20)

St Croix Hospice - Volunteers are an integral part of providing emotional support to St. Croix Hospice patients and their families during a difficult time. There are numerous ways that caring individuals can provide comfort, dignity and respect to our hospice patients. St. Croix Serves clients in Big Lake, Buffalo, Monticello and St Cloud. Clients reside in Skilled Nursing, Assisted Living, independent apartments and homes. Hospice Companions: Volunteer companions provide the extra care and support through companionship and practical, caring help. Respite care involves staying with the patient while the family members enjoy a moment alone to run errands, make appointments, or simply take time to care for themselves. Hospice companions visit on a regular basis and do a variety of activities like reading, handholding, playing music, card games, looking at photo albums, and sharing memories. (1/20) Vigil Companions: Volunteers provide the support, physical presence, and reassurance that patients and families need. These individuals stay at the bedside of patients who would otherwise be alone during the last days or hours of life. (1/20) Pet Therapy Companions: Pet therapy has been shown to reduce physical and emotional pain, along with reducing anxiety, and a sense of isolation. St. Croix Hospice is seeking certified handler/dog teams to visit patients where they live. (1/20)

HUMAN & VETERAN SERVICES

Great River Family Promise Day Center Volunteer – Great River Family Promise, assisting local homeless families, needs volunteers to provide hospitality to families in the Day Center in Elk River on weekdays. Hosting involves simply being present and interacting with family members for a 2-hour shift. Volunteers may also need to answer the phone and take messages for staff to attend to. Volunteers must have good people skills and willing to be “task flexible” as the daily needs of families change. Especially needed Wed 7:30 – 9:00 AM and on-call for uncovered daytime/weekday shifts. (1/20) Evening/Weekend Hosts – Great River Family Promise, providing services to local homeless families, needs volunteers in the evening/overnight to assist at a local church to provide hospitality to families in the evenings. Volunteers can offer to prepare or serve a meal, provide companionship during the evening or take an overnight shift with another volunteer to make the guests comfortable. Commitment is very flexible. No more than 14 clients, including children, are present at any one time. (1/20) Options Artists & Musicians – Options, Inc in Big Lake is committed to the support of adults with disabilities through employment and socialization. If you have a passion for sharing the joy of creating artwork or bringing others happiness by entertaining them with a musical talent, consider volunteering to do just that at Options. Flexible scheduling will be coordinated with staff. Options is open weekday daytimes. Visit once, twice or on a regular basis! (1/20) Rivers of Hope Crisis Line Attendant - Answer 24 hour Crisis Lines after hours, weekends, and holidays for Rivers of Hope, a support center for those dealing with domestic violence. Provide problem solving solutions. Commit and keep scheduled shifts. Attend training as advised. Work cooperatively with local law enforcement. Provide a calming presence to victims of domestic violence. Must be at least 18 years of age. Previous crisis intervention experience preferred, but not required. Must pass criminal background check. Must have access to a phone and the internet during shift. (1/20)

Tri-County Action Program (Tri-CAP) Drivers - Volunteers provide rides using their own private vehicles to residents of Benton, Sherburne, Stearns counties. Passengers are assigned to volunteers by the Tri-CAP dispatch center and may be traveling to medical appointments or a variety of other destinations. Volunteer drivers are reimbursed at the Federal IRS rate and may also be eligible for some meal reimbursements. Our volunteer drivers provide an important service to those in need. (1/20)

MEAL SERVICE/DELIVERY Meals on Wheels: Becker/Big Lake/Elk River/Zimmerman Meal Delivery – Consider a hot meal when you are unable to cook for yourself… So important! Meals on Wheels delivery drivers are needed to ensure that those in need who live independently receive these mid-day meals. Drivers needed Mon-Fri. Each route takes about an hour to deliver. Volunteers are needed to deliver meals out of Becker, Big Lake, Elk River and Zimmerman to those waiting in and around each of those communities. Offer to deliver from a community near you once per month, once per week, or even more! (1/20) Senior Dining – Elk River Wash Dishes for Smiles –Volunteers needed to collect up many friendly greetings and smiles from diners in exchange for assisting to clean up after a noon, weekday meal at the Elk River Senior Dining Site. Along with meeting new friends, volunteers use a commercial dishwasher to wash dishes as a part of a three- member volunteer team to take care of this extremely important element of a welcoming, healthy meal. Dishwashers work from 11 AM – 1 PM. (1/20) Senior Dining - Zimmerman Food Service with a Smile - Help is needed to serve and clean up from weekday, noon meals to Zimmerman area senior citizens at the Guardian Angels senior apartments in Zimmerman. Distribute warm greetings and smiles along with serving a meal to those who come to dine. Likely collect up some smiles for yourself in return! Volunteers also prepare meals to be delivered as Meals on Wheels. Time commitment for this position is 10:00 am – 12:30 pm on the scheduled day. Regular volunteers needed any weekday. (1/20) OTHER NON-PROFIT Oliver Kelley Farm Greeter - Visitors need your warm welcome to the Kelley Farm! As a Greeter, you will inform and direct visitors to attractions and provide great customer service by assisting in the exhibit and/or gift shop area. Come help visitors get the most out of their visit and help them leave planning their next visit! Shift times fluctuate per season and a minimum commitment of one season is requested. Both weekend and weekday volunteers needed. (1/20) Farm Lab Kitchen Associate – Do you like being in a kitchen and learning? Then come help support a quality learning environment for visitors and guest cooks with preparation for, delivery of, and clean up after programs! Give visitors a taste of what Oliver Kelley Farm has to offer! One shift required on a weekday or weekend between the hours of 9am – 3pm in the Spring, Summer, and Fall months. (1/20) Garden Associate - Use your green thumb to assist with planting, cultivating, harvesting and seed saving while you learn more about plants in the Kelley Farm’s Historic Garden and Farm Lab Garden. You'll use common garden tools and may occasionally use power equipment during your weekly shifts. Volunteers must be comfortable working outdoors and getting dirty while you get some healthy exercise and occasionally provide information to visitors. Previous gardening experience is desired, and training is provided. (1/20)

Sherburne History Center – Do you enjoy History? Learn more about local Sherburne County History while assisting the Sherburne History Center as a volunteer. The History Center can use your help in a variety of ways: data entry, tour guide, collection projects, transcribing, grounds/display maintenance. Explore what might interest you! Computer Data Entry- Use your typing skills and basic knowledge of Word, Excel, or Access programs to enter History Center data in a variety of forms. Commitment is flexible during History Center hours. (1/20) Tour Guide- Receive training from the Sherburne History Center about conducting tours on an on-call basis. Greatest need is for school tours, mostly elementary age children, both outdoors (e.g. on our Legacy Trail) or indoors (e.g. the exhibit gallery, hands on activities showing kids objects from our education collection). (1/20) Collections Cataloger- Volunteer 3-4 hours per week or more as an artifact cataloger for the Sherburne History Center. This is a long-term volunteer position. Write descriptions of historic objects following specific guidelines. Ability to follow detailed instructions and handle artifacts with great care. Angels on Main - Adult Day Services Share the Fun! - Angels on Main plans many day trips for their clients to places such as river boat rides, garden tours, or out to lunch. These trips are always more fun with volunteers along to assist the clients as an escort or simply visiting while staff tends to the needs of other clients. Assist with one or more trips per month, as your schedule allows. (1/20) Cards/Games Player- Share a game of cards or a board came with a client at Angels on Main Adult Day Services. Maybe 500, checkers, crazy eights, scrabble, cribbage or whatever is of mutual interest to the volunteer and client. Spend 1-1 ½ hours one-two times per month playing the game you love! Open M-F daytimes. (1/20) Craft Group Coordinator- Suggest craft or beading ideas for client group at Angels on Main Adult Day Services. Gather supplies, demonstrate craft and help individuals with their project. Once per month. (1/20) Visit Adults with Memory Loss- Make a difference in the lives of persons with memory loss by giving individual, personal attention. Serve in a unique, homey atmosphere at Angels on Main Adult Day Services in Elk River. One or more days per month. Daytime, weekday hours. Training and resources provided. (1/20) Catholic Charities Health Promotion Health Promotion Group Facilitator – Receive training to lead any one or more of several evidence- based health promotions classes for area Senior Citizens on behalf of Catholic Charities. Topics include Falls Prevention, Health Eating, Living with a Chronic Disease. Volunteer participates in facilitator training held in St. Cloud for 2-4 full days, depending on the topic chosen. Central MN Council on Aging Health Insurance Counselor- Serve through the Central Minnesota Council on Aging to assist Medicare beneficiaries with supplemental insurance selection, discussing Medicare Saving Programs, working with prescription assistance programs, and other forms assistance. Hours are flexible throughout the year with most time invested Oct-Dec. Training required and provided. Volunteers set the radius from home they are willing to travel to do in-home counseling. (1/20) Engel Haus Engel Haus in Albertville is part of Guardian Angels Senior Services providing independent living, assisted living and memory care for those 55+. Visitors - Visit with memory care residents, take them for a walk, engage in an activity, reminisce, etc. Male visitors for male residents are especially needed. (1/20) Kaffe & Kuchen (Coffee Time)– Daily 2:30pm. Assist in with serving beverages and treats to residents. Meet new friends and share conversation, too! (1/20) Musical Entertainers - Sharing your time and talents with the residents in a musical way is uplifting and can be so fulfilling for both the resident and the musicians. Anytime during the day is great, especially during Kaffee & Kuchen time @ 2:30pm. (1/20) Granny’s Closet Furniture Transporter – Living on a fixed income can be very difficult for many seniors in our community. Granny’s Closet offers needed items to older adults struggling to make ends meet and working through transitions. An on-call volunteer is needed to transport donated furniture for Granny’s Closet. If you have a larger vehicle and/or a trailer, can lift heavy items, and are looking for a minimal time commitment this could be the perfect opportunity to give back to elderly in our community. (1/20) Great River Faith in Action Provide-A-Ride – Volunteer drivers provide a vital service to those without other transportation! Volunteers give rides to residents of Elk River, Big Lake and Becker using their private vehicles. Rides are arranged ahead of time by Great River Faith in Action. Clients generally are seeking rides to medical appointments. Must be willing to permit a full driver record and background screening. Volunteers receive notice and can set destination and time commitment limits. (1/20) Homemaking – Routine housekeeping never felt so good! Assist someone who is unable to do these basic homemaking tasks for themselves. Great River Faith in Action will match a willing volunteer with a client in the Sherburne County area to assist 1-2 times a month, for 1-2 hours each time. It could be you who makes the difference and helps a community elder to remain in their own home. (1/20) Grocery Shopping - Assist a FIA client who is unable to shop in dependently. Some clients are able and interested in riding along, others are not able to. Shopping trips are taken 1-4 times per month, depending on client needs and volunteer availability. (1/20) Guardian Angels By the Lake Sing-a-Long Piano – Share your keyboard skills with others who enjoy singing along to the music at Guardian Angels By the Lake Assisted Living Apartments in Elk River. Day of the week and frequency are very flexible depending on what will work for you. Music is always welcome in our home! (1/20) Bingo Caller – Be a bright spot in the day at Guardian Angels by the Lake Assisted Living services in Elk River on the 4th Tuesday evening of each month. Set up for a bingo game, call the game and hand out prizes. Needed 6:00 – 7:30 PM. (1/20) Coffee Hour – There is no better way to stay connected than a chat over coffee. Guardian Angels by the lake Assisted living residents enjoy this daily time to visit. Coffee is served every day of the week. Each volunteer serves from 2:15 – 4:00 PM one day each week. Visitor- Be the bright spot in someone’s day! Visit with a specifically matched resident of Guardian Angels by the Lake assisted living apartments once per week for about an hour. Share good conversation or a small project as you learn about one another. General visitors also needed in the Memory Care area any morning from 9:30 – 11:00 AM. (1/20) Guardian Angels Care Center Crafts/Baking/Exercise/Games – What’s your pastime passion? Perhaps you can share yours with the residents at Guardian Angels Care Center when the staff has a group of those who enjoy the same thing! Whether it’s baking, playing games, being crafty or something else, perhaps extra hands to guide and assist a resident is just what’s needed! Find out how your passion can help others! (1/20) Visitor- Visitor - Be the bright spot in someone’s day! Visit with a resident (or 2 or 3!) of Guardian Angels Care Center 2-4 times a month. It’s that simple! Share good conversation or a small project as you learn about one another. Maybe visit outdoors on a nice day. Volunteer are matched with specific residents who can most benefit from a companion. (1/20) Coffee/Gift Shop – A fun way to serve at Guardian Angels Care Center in Elk River! Assist residents, visitors and staff with selecting gifts and refreshments in the shop. Enjoy friendly conversation and exchange stories and smiles. The shop is open 7 days a week, volunteers serve in shifts 2-4 times per month. Various shifts available. Duties include making coffee and sandwiches, baking cookies, using the cash register and checking on stocked items. Gift shop discount available for volunteers! (1/20) Outdoor Companion - Many residents at Guardian Angels Care Center in Elk River are unable to be outdoors independently but wish to be in the fresh air and sunshine outside. In the warm months, volunteers are invited to join those residents for some time to sit outside and visit in the beautiful campus courtyard. Engage in conversation or simply enjoy the warm weather together. (1/20) Guardian Angels Housing (Becker) Blood Pressure Volunteer – Residents of Guardian Angels Apartments in Becker like to keep on top of their health. Help them to do that if you are trained to check others’ blood pressure. Visit one time each month on a Tuesday at 11:00 AM. Training, protocol and equipment provided. (1/20) Shepherd of Grace Sing-a-long Instrumental/Vocal - Do you like to sing those “Old Time Favorite” songs? Shepherd of Grace Assisted Living and Memory Care is looking for volunteers to share their musical talents. Do you play the guitar or accordion? Don’t play an instrument that’s ok. Sing along books are available that can be used to lead small groups in a cappella fashion. Reminisce about the good old days through music. This position is flexible and is available on a short or long-term time basis. (1/20) Fun with Games - Do you enjoy playing games around the family table?
