Constitution Day was celebrated at Dr. Ambedkar Govt Law College Chennai in association with T.N. Legal Services Authority Chennai on 26th Nov 2016, in a grand manner. The DLS delivered the Valedictory address at the National Seminar on “Legal & Ethical Aspects of Librarianship issues and Challenges” at TNDALU Faculty Orientation Programme The Directorate of Legal Studies in co-ordination with Tamilnadu Dr. Ambedkar law university arranged a faculty orientation program for the newly recruited Assistant Professors serving in the law colleges in the State of Tamilnadu. Their presence in several remarkable and motivational events is a morale boost for all the students and the faculty. UGC sponsored State level workshop was organized on Clinical Legal Education. Special lectures were conducted and various experts in the field of law namely Jurists, Judges andAcademicians participated in the events like WorldD onor's day, FirstAid Training and Disaster Management Preparedness, Environmental PublicAwareness Rally, Child rights awareness program, Road Safety Awareness program, Eye camp and the Annual Cultural Event entitled 'Inceptus'. Prof. Dr. Upendra Dev Accharya, Gonzaga University School of Law, USA and Mr. Satvinder Russ of Kings Institute of London motivated the students on overseas Legal Education. State-Level Dr.Ambedkar Memorial Moot Court Competition was organized. Our students participated in the prestigious Willem C Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Court Competition organized by United Nations Pace foundation at Vienna and Hongkong with financial assistance from the Government of Tamilnadu. International Women's Day, Annual Sports Day and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Birth Anniversary were all celebrated with mirth and colourful extravaganza. 'Mathru Basha' day was celebrated with Essay competitions. Dr. Ambedkar memorial Lecture series have been inaugurated on the eve of his birthday and it is being conducted continuously for the past three years. Our Students Anees Gowsar excelled in International Badminton competition held at Malaysia. Arun Prabhakar excelled in International and National Karate Competition. Karthik Raja and Gautama Buddha competed in National Silambam competition and were placed first. We shall aim to achieve more in the years to come. 9 International Women’s Day Celebration

Hon'ble Mr. Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Supreme Court of India, the then Chief Justice, High Court, Madras along with Mrs. Shivani Kaul, were the guests of honour at the special occasion commemorating " International Women's Day2016 " which was celebrated with the motto "Gender Parity". In his Lordship's vociferous speech he pointed out that women shall be aware of their rights.

The faculty in the presence of the Director of Legal Studies undertook ano ath to take action to accelerate gender parity in tune with the United Nations Principles Wthat“ omen continue to contribute to social, economic, cultural and political achievement and pledge to take concrete steps to help women achieve their ambitions and call for gender balanced leadership, respect and valuegender difference, develop more inclusive and flexible cultures or root out workplace bias.”

International Women’s day 2017 was celebrated in a grand manner at the Dr. Ambedkar Govt. Law College Chennai. The College was blessed with the gracious presence of several High Court lady Judges and dignitaries. Among them are Hon’ble Dr. Justice S. Prof. Dr. P.Vanangamudi,The Vice - Chancellor of the Tamilnadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University Chennai presided over the workshop in the presence of Prof. Dr. N. S. Santhosh Kumarwho delivered the Key Note address. The Workshop dealt with the different areas of ADR including Grading of Clinical Legal Education, Arbitration, Mediation, Negotiation and Conciliation. Legal Research Problem identification, Research Design and Research Methodology were also discussed. The Clinical method of law teaching links legal education to the real world .“ Learning byD oing” is the basis of Clinical Legal Education. It gives an opportunity to the students to understand law with deeper and more meaningful analysis of concepts, procedure and the different facets of practical life. E-Zone Inauguration E-zone for Digital knowledge was inaugurated in the college to achieve the dream of digitalization of knowledge providers, databases, journals etc., The updated legal database of digital material is open to all users over the campus-wide LAN. Equipped with High bandwidth Internet connectivity, users can access Electronic journals( CDJ) and other licensed databases. One can access any resource from any ode in then campus.Avariety of latest legal databases are also made available to the students. The prime objective of this E-Zone Digital Knowledge Centre is to act as a subject gateway providing access to the legal database ands information resources of library and information services both internal and external, all in one place, enabling users to search, browse and download any required data needed quickly and easily. 11 State Level Moot Court Competition Moot court skills strive to integrate the theoretical and practical aspects of law. The Moot Committee is entrusted with the responsibility of identifying talented mooters , selecting and training them for participation in International and National Level Moot Court Competitions. In Moot Court Competitions the students are given a moot proposition based on which students submit memorials addressing various issues, question of law and present their arguments by relying on case materials and rebuttals to the arguments posed by the opponents.

Fiat Justicia State level Moot court Competition

The College organized National rounds of the Phillip C Jessup International Moot court Competition, Govindasamy State level Moot court Competition, Fiat Justicia State level Moot court Competition(twice). Hon'ble Mr. Justice G. M. Akbar Ali chaired Fiatthe Justicia Moot court Competition. Mr. Vasanthan Baskaran and G.Ashok of the college were declared winners. Dr. Ambedkar Memorial State Level Moot Court Competition The Dr. Ambedkar Memorial State level Moot court Competition was organized by the College. The sitting Judges of the High Court Madras assessed the performance of the Mooters. Hon'ble Mr. Justice T.S. Sivangnanam,ic naugurated the ompetition. Hon'ble Mr. Justice S. Nagamuthu, Hon'ble Mr. Justice N. Kirubakaran, and Hon'ble Mr. Justice S. Vaidhyanathan judged the finals and addressed the gathering . Ms. Aparna Sundar, Ms. Sri Lisha Stebila Theras and Ms. Hemalatha, of Dr. Ambedkar Govt. Law College Chennai, were the winners. Effective guidance is rendered to the student mooters by Dr. N. Kayalvizhi, Asst. Professor of Law in preparation of memorials, presentation of arguments, adoption of ingenuity of rebuttals and graciously making responses to the queries of the Judges. College round selections of the Wilhem C Vienna InternationalArbitration Moot court Competition was organized Ms. Anu, Mr. Deepak Narayanan, Mr. Raju and Mr. Ashokpathy, all eminent Arbitrators judged the Moot Court Rounds.7 Students were selected to represent the college at the International Competition at Vienna and Hong Kong.

Dr.Ambedkar's 125 th Birth Anniversary Celebration was graced by Hon'ble Mr.Justice M. Jaichandren. He presided over the function and the Dr. Ambedkar Memorial Special Lecture was delivered by Prof. Dr. N.S. Santhosh Kumar, The Director of Legal Studies on the topic “Real Hero of India- Babasaheb Dr.Ambedkar”. In the Men's Hostel ,Dr.Ambedkar's 125 th BirthAnniversary Celebrated and Hon'ble Mr. Justice M. M. Sundresh, Hon'ble Dr. Justice S. Vimala, and Hon'ble Mr. Justice D. Hariparanthaman (Retd) graced the occasion and addressed the gathering. Prof. Dr. N. S. Santhosh Kumar , The Director of Legal Studies delivered the special address. Prof. Dr. J. Vincent Comraj , The Principal, Government Law College, Trichy also addressed the gathering.

DAGLC in Association with TNDALU inaugurated Consumer Legal Aid Cell on 17 November 2016, Hon’ble Mr. Justice T.S. Sivagnanam, Judge, High Court, Madras attended the program as chief Guest and delivered a special Lecture on Consumer Awareness. His Lordship was so keen about creating consumer awareness. Mock Trial Proceedings sMockTrial were organised to train and hone the skills of advocacy of all the final years students. It helps student participants refine their learning, research, writing and oral advocacy skills. Mock Trial simulates real court practi e, teamc experience, support and camaraderie among the team mates. Mock trials enable a student to compete. Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College conducted for the first time mock trials to enable the students to get real trial court experience and to make them successful trial advocates in future.

N. A. Nassir Hussain received the award for the Best Student Advocate at the Ernakulam Govt. Law College Moot Court Competition. The award was presented to Nassir Hussain by His Excellency, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sadasivam, Governor of Kerala .

13 Public Awareness Environmental Rally Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College. Chennai has organized an Environmental Awareness Campaign Rall . They initiative was the first of its kind for this institution. The campaign aimed at creating awareness among the public to become responsible citizensand are conscious of different problems created byed nvironmental egradation. The Rally sensitized the general public in reducing the use of plastics and toswitch over to use of e co- friendly alternatives and thereby ensuring sustainability.

The students undertook two kilometre rally covering NSC Bose Road. Ratan Bazaar Road, Evening Bazaar Road. Muthuswamy Road. Esplanade Road and returned back to the college. The day began by paying tribute to 'Mother Earth' . The rally was flagged off by Hon'ble Mr. Justice M. M. Sundresh Judge, High Court .,Madras

ENVIRO-JURIS CLUB was inaugurated by Environmentalist Smt. Sulochana Ramaseshan. President and Trustee, Exnora International. The students, facult , staff andy management took oath which was administered by Shri. R. Sundararaju. I.F.S.(R etd. ) c onsultant anda dvisor, Tamiln adu Bio-Diversity Conservation and Greening Project and Shri. J. Srinivasan. Social Activist and Managing Director, Sri Sarvalakshmi Chit Funds India Pvt. Ltd released the environmental campaign slogans and pamphlets.

A street play was organized to sensitize the common people of the locality. 18 UGC SPONSORED NATIONAL SEMINARS UGC sponsored two day National Seminar on “Issues and challenges on labour laws in the Era of Globalization, Liberalization and Privatization” was inaugurated by Dr. N. S. Santhosh kumar, Director of legal studies. In his inaugural address the Director of Legal Studies has reiterated the need for a dynamic and flexible outlook in the entire spectrum of the labour legislations in the era globalization which has affected every sphere of life including the industrial relations, labour issues and market economy. The Director himself Chaired a Session as a resource person and moderated the paper presentations. A one day UGC sponsored National Seminar was conducted on “Labour out sourcing and contract Labour system in India - problems and prespectives” 130 papers were presented. Two edited volumes with ISBN were published on the same day. The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. Kamala Sankaran, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, National Law School, Srirangam, Trichy. Prof. Dr. J. Vincent Comraj, the Principal of the college presided and received the first copies of the volumes. Prof. Dr. Ebenezar Joseph and Prof. Dr. M.S. Soundarapandian delivered the special and valedictory addresses respectively. The research papers presented by 116 academicians, research scholars and legal luminaries from 10 Universities across the country were documented into two edited volumes having ISBN Numbers. STATE LEVEL WORKSHOP A State Level Workshop for the NSS Programme officers on using the Legal Aid as a tool to serve the society was conducted by the NSS Units of the Government Law College, Trichy in collaboration the NSS of Bharathidasan University Dr. Muthukumar, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor of the Bharathidasan University inaugurated the function.

19 State Level Moot Court Competitions For The Afliated Colleges We have conducted two State level moot court competitions for the affiliated law colleges of TNDALU in which teams from all the a ffi l i a t e d l a w college, the School of Excellence in Law, TNDALU and the Central law College, Salem participated . The Government Law College, Trichy won the trophy along with the award for the best Student advocate and the best researcher. Government Law College, Trichy became runners in the State Level Moot Court Competition conducted by the Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College, Chennai. Workshops On ADR Techniques And Human Rights A workshop on the ADR techniques was conducted in collaboration with the Society For Alternative Dispute Techniques, Chennai. The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Isaac Mohanlal, then President of the Madurai Bar Association. In his well received address he made a mention about the discipline, decency and decorum of the students of the law college and he wished to arrange contribution for upgrading the moot court hall of the college. Later Madurai Bar Association has donated the public address system for the moot court hall. The workshop was attended by several advocates from Madras High Court and they staged a play by the team led by Mr. Arunachalam, Advocate, High Court, Madras.

In association with the Institute for Human Rights Education (People’s Watch), three days workshop was conducted on Human Rights. It was inaugurated by Mr. Martin, President, Trichy Bar Association. There were more than hundred students from other law colleges and NGOs participated and presented papers. Video Conferencing Under the auspices of The Tamil Nadu Dr.Ambedkar Law University, the University, the Directorate and all the Government Law colleges have been now inter-connected through video conferencing and for the first time the state level moot court competition has been viewed by all the affiliated law Live Streaming From DLS office, Chennai colleges live. Santhosh kumar, Director of Legal Studies offered felicitations through video conferencing from his office at Chennai and it was viewed by the judges, guests, participants and students from all the colleges.

20 Automation Of Library & E-zone Facility Our library services are fully automated by using the standard library software package called AUTOLIB. The entire library with nearly 32,000 volumes of books was equipped with automation and barcodes were printed on all the books. After envious input of labour and human resources the digitalised and automated library was inaugurated by K. Uthirapathi, Principal District and Session Judge, Trichy. The circulation system is fully computerized and circulation is through Barcode System. Scanner is used for charging and discharging of books. E-zone was also opened, with the updated legal database of digital material that is open to all users over the campus-wide LAN. Equipped with High bandwidth Internet connectivity users can access Electronic journals (CDJ) and other licensed databases. One can access any resource from any where in the campus. A variety of latest legal databases are also made available to the students. Access to users is provided with Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC). The OPAC allows the users to search for an item of your choice in Library holdings. Training On Using Online Database To Students Training programmes were organised for the students on utilising online legal database like SCC online, Manupatra, CDJ online journals with the experts from Supreme Court Cases Online, Manupatra and Complete Digital Judgments E- Connect In collaboration with the State Bank of India online fees payment facility e-connect was introduced for the college. This facility would avoid students or their parents to personally make payment of the mess fees and charges by visiting the SBI Branch where the college has account. They can make payment of their ward's fees through their bank in their respective towns or villages or even by net banking. A data base has been created with the notified accounts and the online access system has been created with the innovative software developed by SBI. The Deputy General Manager of the State Bank of India stressed the importance of making facilitations for easy online access for every transactions. 27 UGC Sponsored National Seminar on Anonymous Witness A UGC Sponsored National Seminar on Anonymous Witness was held in the college inviting papers from the subject experts, faculty and legal practitioners. The seminar focused on aspect of protection of witnesses and the need for changes in the existing criminal procedure and elicitation of evidences.

One of the most important objective is giving an in-depth analysis in legal rules concerning the rights of persons charged with criminal offenses through out the

Inauguration of E-Zone The Directorate of Legal Studies has commenced the Digitalization of Libraries of all the Govt. Law Colleges in the State of Tamilnadu through the establishment of E-Zone (Wifi and Fibernet) . The E-zone makes the student easily accessible to any material relating to law from any part of the world through efficient online database providers through its lease-line connection which enables readily reckon online databases. The E-zone facility was inaugurated by former Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) P. Vanangamudi. Inauguration of Moot Court Hall Moot Court Hall is a laboratory to test the skills of advocacy of a student. A moot is an extra circular activity in which a law student is made to participate in a simulated court proceeding which involves drafting of a memorial, submission of memoranda and participating in oral argument.

A fully furnished moot court hall has been established for the purpose of conducting Moot court and Mock Trial Proceedings. The event was inaugurated by Mr. P. 31 Inauguration of the Newly Constructed Moot Court Hall The Government of Tamil Nadu has mandated that in all the Law Colleges there shall be constructed Moot Court Hall as a replica of Real Court Hall. There are elevated seats for the Judges, Special podium for arguing students - lawyers, witness boxes and a gallery for the onlookers etc... The curriculum devised by the Bar Council of India and Law University consist of provisions for Clinical Legal Education including professional ethics Bench-Bar relations, Alternative Dispute Resolution Mechanisms, Drafting, Pleading and Conveyancing, Court and Chamber Visits and Real Court Practice in the form of participation in Moot Court and Mock Trials. Its is the platform for the students to exhibit their talents of preparing memorials and presenting arguments. It boosts the budding advocates to present the case without fear before the court. It also helps to learn court etiquette. The Moot Court Hall in the College was inaugurated by Hon’ble Mr. Justice V. Ramasubramaniam in the presence of learned advocates, faculty and students. Blood Donation Camp

Dr. N. Gunasekaran, Dean Govt. Medical College, Chengalpet inaugurated the Blood Donation Camp which was organized by Youth Red Cross unit and NSS units. 70 Students donated Blood. Dr. Gunasekaran emphasized the need for such life saving programmes. He said that a drop of blood donated was going to save the life of a person at risk. He distributed certificates of appreciation for all those who donated Blood. Dr. Ambedkar Mass Mission for Legal Literacy The NSS Programme officers and Student Volunteers took part in the Mass Mission for the Legal Literacy at Thirumani Village and also Campaigned for Vote awareness among the illiterate rural masses. 34 Building inauguration The new building of the Government Law College, Vellore was inaugurated by the Honorable Chief Minister of Tamilnadu through Video - Conferencing on 04.03.2017. The Vellore District Collector Mr. S. A. A. Raman and the Principal, Government Law College, Vellore, Ms. R. Santhi lighted the “Kuthu vilakku”. The faculty members and the students actively participated in the function. A seminar on the topic “Judicial activism in India and United States” was delivered by Dr. Upendra Dev Acharya, Professor of Law, GONZAGA University School of Law, Washington, United States. The topic covered the areas of separation of powers, judicial activism, judicial restraint and individual application of law. The difference between the US legal system and Indian Legal System was meticulously analyzed and presented. There was an interactive session in which the students made a lot of thought provoking queries and got satisfactory responses. All the students of the college actively took part in the deliberations and got a direct exposure to the intricacies of the foreign legal system.

Mock Trial Proceeding of Dowry Death Mock Trial is the tool to hone the skills of trial advocacy including the nuances of framing the issues, marking of documents, chief and cross examination, adducing evidence etc... It also proves to be an effective tool to understand law, learn professional ethics and etiquette, enhancing critical thinking thereby gaining confidence in presenting cases before the courts. On 2.3.2016, UGC sponsored awareness programme on Human Rights was conducted by the Sacred Heart College, Thirupattur in collaboration with Govt. Law College, Vellore. The students of Govt.
