LA SALLE CAPTURES SECOND STRAIGHT SERIES • La Salle won its second series of the year by taking 2-of-3 games from Rider. • Senior Ben Faso went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and freshman Quentin Brown drove in a pair of runs to lead four Explorers with multi-hit games. La Salle overcame a 5-2 deficit and scored five runs over the seventh and eighth innings to snag a 7-5 win. • Jackson Ray shut it down in game two, scattering just five hits over his seven innings on the hill. Ray, junior Erik Janss and senior Connor Hincliffe combined for a shutout and La Salle scored three in the seventh to claim a 3-0 victory. • The Explorers fell behind 5-0 in the series finale before tying the game in the seventh. However, Rider scored twice in the ninth and La Salle added one more run but fell just short, 7-6. Junior Ryan Guckin and freshman Matt Rivera homered in the defeat. HOLT STARTS SEASON WITH BIG 5 HONORS • Junior right-handed pitcher Matt Holt began the season with Philadelphia Big 5 Co-Pitcher of the Week honors after a lights- out showing in the Explorers’ season-opening win. • Holt (1-0) picked up the win after matching a career high with eight strikeouts while allowing only one run on five hits with no walks over six innings. EXPLORERS OPEN 2019 WITH SERIES WIN • In the opening game of the season at Charleston Southern, Matt Holt anchored the Explorers on the mound and senior Ben Faso hit a three-run homer to lead La Salle to a 6-3 opening-day victory. The Explorers scored four runs in the sixth inning and two more in the ninth to snag the road win. • La Salle fell behind 4-0 after three innings in game two, which proved to be too much to overcome in a 7-3 setback. • The Explorers responded in game three, overcoming a 3-0 deficit and turning it into a 5-4 victory to win their first series of the season. Freshman Nick O’Day hit his first career homer and joined Ben Faso, Kevin McGowan and Matt Rivera with multi-hit games. Senior Mike Anthony earned the win, while Connor Hinchliffe notched his second save of the weekend. LOOKING BACK ON 2018 • The 2018 season saw a learning curve for the Explorers, who showed flashes of excellence at times, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. The Explorers finished 14-41 overall and 4-20 in the Atlantic 10.

  • Cincinnati Reds' Billy Hamilton at First in the Seventh Inning of a Baseball Game, Sunday, Aug
Cincinnati Reds Press Clippings August 29, 2017 THIS DAY IN REDS HISTORY 1997-The Reds play the Twins for the first time during the regular season, and win, 5-3, at the Metrodome MLB.COM Inbox: What is Scooter's future with Reds? Beat reporter Mark Sheldon answers Cincinnati fans' questions By Mark Sheldon / MLB.com | @m_sheldon | August 28th, 2017 + 81 COMMENTS While the Reds take an off-day in the midst of their homestand, let's dive into some of your questions about the team in this edition of the Inbox. Do you think the Reds will keep Scooter Gennett with the kind of year that he is having so far? -- James, Burch, Ky. I believe they will, especially since Gennett has two more years of club control while he's eligible for arbitration. He's only 27, and besides having a breakout year at the plate, Gennett has also become a key part of the clubhouse. However, I won't say that Gennett is a stone-cold lock to stay. Gennett's market is at its peak, and general manager Dick Williams isn't afraid to exploit that value (see the Dan Straily trade to the Marlins in January). The Reds could also have a bit of a second- base bind with Dilson Herrera, who is out the rest of the year due to right shoulder surgery. They haven't had Herrera fully healthy since last year's trade with the Mets for Jay Bruce, and he will be coming to Spring Training out of options. Now that Billy Hamilton has several years under his belt and has shown to be not much of a hitter, do the Reds trade him now while he is worth a decent return? -- Carl I., Dallas, Texas Using your rationale, how could the Reds get a decent return for Hamilton if he's shown to be not much of a hitter? His sub-.300 on- base percentage remains troubling, but he still has stolen 50 or more bases each of the past four years and is one of the best center fielders in the game defensively.

Cincinnati Reds Press Clippings September 6, 2017 THIS DAY IN REDS HISTORY 1943-Woody Williams ties a National League record by collecting 10 hits in 10 consecutive at-bats MLB.COM Castillo wraps up '17 in finale with Brewers By Mark Sheldon / MLB.com | 7:12 AM ET + 2 COMMENTS When the Brewers conclude a three-game series with the Reds amid their effort to make the postseason, they will have an all-hands- on-deck situation with their pitching. While Cincinnati will start impressive rookie Luis Castillo, it will essentially be a bullpen day for Milwaukee. Matt Garza will get the start for the Brewers, but the veteran righty has had trouble going deep in games lately. Garza will be operating on a short leash. "We'll treat Wednesday's game as 'getting outs'," said Brewers manager Craig Counsell, who took the same approach on Sunday, when starter Brent Suter worked the first three innings in his return from the disabled list and four relievers followed. Suter is among Milwaukee's potential relief options, Counsell said. In his previous start on Aug. 29 vs. the Cardinals -- a 10-2 loss -- Garza labored for 3 1/3 innings with six runs (three earned), four hits, five walks and two strikeouts. In 16 career starts vs. Cincinnati, he is 5-5 with a 4.74 ERA -- including 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA in two starts this season. Castillo, 24, will be hitting his innings limit with Wednesday's start, his final outing of 2017. At 2-7 with a 3.32 ERA in 14 big league starts since his June 23 promotion from Double-A Pensacola, the right-hander has 161 2/3 innings pitched after having 131 2/3 innings in the Minors during 2016.
