Bryan Chappell Chairperson SHARING THE DREAM Fran Rider President Doug Nicholls Past Chairperson Our theme this season, Sharing the Dream, was launched at the OWHA General Meeting in September with the assistance of Her Worship Hazel McCallion and Pat Nicholls 1st Vice-Chairperson nd delegates from the Olympic Women’s Hockey Team of China. The Olympic Women’s Suzanne Essex 2 Vice-Chairperson Team of China gave thousands of players and supporters in Ontario the chance to rd Ted Dean 3 Vice-Chairperson “Share the Dream” as we supported China through 3 months of training that included 28 Mary Ann Blunt Secretary games. One such person was Bev Mallory, a life-long supporter of female hockey and a founding member of the OWHA. Bev served as a member of the Boards of Directors of the OWHA, Stoney Creek Girls Hockey Association, Hamilton Girls Hockey Association and Hamilton Women’s Hockey Association. She contributed to the OWHA development programs and worked with many task groups to form new female hockey teams and associations. Bev’s late husband Ross was also a dedicated volunteer as were daughters, Louise and

1 2 2009-2010 OWHA PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONS Five hundred and eleven teams participated in the 2009-10 Provincial Championships. The Intermediate AA, A, B & C Provincial Championships were held in February. A total of 52 Intermediate teams participated. The Provincial Championships for the remaining divisions were held April 9th- Ann who also played. Bev suddenly experienced health problems at the beginning of 11th in , Mississauga, Toronto, and Newmarket. A total of 459 teams participated in the April event. 2010 and lost a valiant battle to cancer on April 16, 2010. We sincerely thank Bev for her contributions and friendship. The Ontario government’s Ministry of Health Atom B Grand River Mustangs St Mary’s Rock Lucan Irish Promotion re-vamped the Ontario Winter Games criteria, bringing in line with the Long Atom C Gloucester-Cumberland Stars Napanee Crunch Sault Ste Marie Wildcats Term Athlete Development Model (LTAD). The OWHA worked with the Ministry to Pee Wee AA Whitby Wolves Bluewater Hawks Oakville Hornets create a new format and we were accepted as a Core Sport for 2010 and 2012. This Pee Wee A Saugeen Maitland Lightning Oakville Hornets Clearview Icecats season over 400 players participated in selection/development camps and 160 moved Pee Wee BB Sault Ste Marie Wildcats Georgina Golden Hawks Smiths Falls Cubs on to play for 1 of 8 teams. Players and staff were mixed by ability and geography and Pee Wee B Schreiber North Shore Stars Woodstock Wildcats Kincardine Kinucks came together on teams named after OWHA high-performance athletes – , Pee Wee C Hearst Ice Cats Markdale Shooting Stars Bancroft Jets , , Karen Nystrom, Cathy Phillips, Cheryl Pounder, , and . Prior to the start of the competition, the OWHA Bantam AA Whitby Wolves Waterloo Ravens Sharks hosted very successful Officiating Camps and Coaching Camps. It is an organization of players, coaches, team staff, officials, administrators and supporters working side by side providing and enjoying the great Midget AA Thunder Bay Queens Stoney Creek Sabres Willowdale Red Wings game of hockey. It is the only organization of its kind in the world! 13 14 2010 Isobel Gathorne-Hardy x 2007/08 CWHL MVP x 2008/09 CWHL Top Scorer winning the Angela James Bowl with 69 points in 28 Player-of-the-Year games Jayna Hefford x Won 2006-07 NWHL Championship x 2006/07 & 2007/08 member of Brampton Thunder, NWHL League Champions Isobel Gathorne-Hardy was the daughter of former Governor General of Canada Lord Stanley of Preston x NWHL Central Division champions and Lady Constance Villiers. She was one of seven children, five boys and two girls. While living in x Inducted in to the Brampton Sports Hall of Fame in 2002 Canada, Stanley helped to popularize and is considered one of the first women to play the x OWHA -Team Ontario Red 1993 - Gold game. In 1898 she married the Honourable Sir John Francis Gathorne-Hardy, a brother of the 3rd Earl of x OWHA – Captained Team Ontario Canada Winter Games 1995 - Gold Cranbrook and took the name Isobel Gathorne-Hardy. Gathorne-Hardy had one child: daughter Elizabeth x Team Ontario (Brampton Thunder) - Esso Women’s National Championship – Constance Mary Gathorne-Hardy. The Ontario Women’s Hockey Association was saddened to hear of the passing of Linda Greer after a brief and courageous battle with cancer on January 19th 2010 at Kingston General Hospital. The Greer family have dedicated many years to the advancement of women’s hockey in various roles. They were involved with the Stoney Creek Girls Hockey and more recently with the West Northumberland Girls Hockey Association. Linda attended many local and provincial meetings and will be missed by the many volunteers who enjoyed working with her. Wayne is a coaching instructor with the OWHA. Our thoughts and prayers are with Wayne, Allison, Kaitlyn and the entire family

The hockey community was saddened by passing of Frank Pindar on December 8, 2009. He was surrounded by his loving wife, Libby and sons Sean and Kyle. Frank was an Officer of the Ontario Hockey Federation at the time of his death. Prior to that, he served on the GTHL Board of Directors. Holding various positions at U of T. he was a supporter of the University of Toronto Lady Blues. The OWHA thanks Frank for his life-long contributions to hockey as a strong leader who was a great listener and cared for the game and the people in it.

The Ontario Women’s Hockey Association is saddened by the loss of Bev Mallory who passed away April 17th, 2010. Bev has left a legacy as a pioneer and advocate of women’s hockey. Bev was a founding member of the Ontario Women’s Hockey Association. Her contributions have had an impact on the growth and development of female hockey throughout Ontario, Canada and the World. She has been very involved with the Stoney Creek Girls Hockey Association and the Hamilton Women’s Hockey Association. Bev has been a tireless volunteer and a great friend of many in the game. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ann, George, Joe, Keith, Louise and the entire Mallory family

TEAM WEATHERSTON – SILVER MEDALISTS

On March 10, 2010, Donna Weber died in Kitchener, surrounded by her family. She was 70. Donna was a key volunteer at the 1997 Women’s World Championship in Kitchener. Her kindness and generosity inspired players, volunteers and VIP’s. She again contributed at the 2002 and 2006 Four Nations Cups at the Aud. She has been honoured and recognized for her efforts which has included induction into the Waterloo Region Hall of Fame, Volunteer of the Year for both Kitchener Minor Hockey and Kitchener Minor Baseball, and Life Member of Kitchener Minor Hockey Donna’s legacy lives on.

The participants and supporters of the Ontario Women's Hockey Association Provincial Championship and all the members of the Ontario Women’s Hockey Association extend our most sincere condolences to the Greer, Pindar, Mallory and Weber family and friends.
