Sally Canfield joins ONE as senior director of U.S. government relations WASHINGTON — The ONE Campaign is pleased to announce the appointment of Sally Canfield as its new senior director of U.S. government relations. Canfield is the former senior director for international government affairs for the global pharmaceutical company, AbbVie, and the former deputy chief of staff to Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), providing strategic counsel, overseeing the senator’s legislative work, and personally leading on his global health portfolio. Tom Hart, ONE’s executive director for North America, said: “It’s tough to recall a more complex political climate in Washington, but few people know the policy, the players, and the politics of the fight against extreme poverty as well as Sally Canfield. Sally has been a friend to ONE for a long time — in different roles and in different ways — and we’re incredibly fortunate that she’ll now lead our government relations team.” Prior to her return to Capitol Hill, Canfield served in senior positions in both the private and nonprofit sector, including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, where she worked with partners including ONE, the Center for Strategic and International Studies, and the worldwide network of Friends of the Global Fight. Canfield has also held various senior positions including deputy chief of staff for policy at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, counselor to the secretary at the Department of Health and Human Services, and senior policy advisor to the Speaker of the House. In the 2000 campaign, Canfield served as domestic policy advisor to then- Governor George W. Bush and in the 2008 campaign cycle, she served as policy director to Governor Mitt Romney. Canfield holds a degree in Political Science from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois and has studied at Saint Catherine’s College, Oxford University. Canfield is also a Board Member of the Panzi Foundation USA, a charitable foundation that raises awareness about the challenges in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, engages in strategic advocacy to end violence against women, and provides grants to Panzi Hospital to heal women and restore lives. ONE is a policy and advocacy organization of more than 7.5 million people taking action to end extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in Africa. Not politically partisan, ONE was co-founded by U2 lead singer Bono to raise public awareness and press political leaders to combat AIDS and other preventable diseases, increase investments in agriculture and nutrition, and demand greater transparency in poverty-fighting programs. ### .
