Instructional Glenmore Lodge: I worked in Scotland during the winters of 1993, 1994 & 1995, working on Winter Skills Courses, Winter Mountaineering Courses and Winter ML Training Courses. Plas y Brenin: I started freelancing in 1995, and this lead to a contract being offered. I have worked on all the summer mountain and rock climbing courses, from Introduction to Navigating to Rock Coaching Courses, and all syllabuses courses, SPA, ML, and MIA. I have worked on both Welsh and Scottish winter programs. SPA Provider: I have been a provider from its inception, have provided courses in many areas, and for a various organizations. CWA Provider: I have been a provider since its inception and have provided courses at a number of venues. CWLA Provider: I have been a provider since its inception and provided courses at a number of climbing walls. LEA Centres: I have worked for LEA Centres in England and Wales, with ages varying from 9 year olds to 17 year olds. Colleges and Schools: This work has varied from, a Private Special School for pupils with behavioural problems, introduce them to climbing, orienteering and canoeing; to an F.E. College and also Independent Schools, coaching their pupils. I have been Technical Advisor a number of organisations. This has involved being consulted on the construction of a substantial indoor walls. Together with construction of outdoor climbs and abseil towers. I am Technical Advisor to two climbing walls, one a local authority wall, and one a large independent wall. I have coached on two Junior BMC Team trips to Orpierre, France, to introduce the Juniors to outdoor Sport Climbing in a safe and managed way. BMC Youth & Equity Officer involved: Instructing on and responsibility for the International Youth Meet 2002, BRYCS National Youth Competition, Climb 03 Birmingham which involved managing four Come and Try It Walls and the Ice Wall, Editing Gripped BMC Youth Magazine, formulating CPP Policy for the BMC and Secretary of various committees. I have lead trips to several countries in Europe and to Morocco. Other Relevant Experience I have written a number of articles for Magazines, the BMC and had published the key text for introduction to leading in climbing walls ‘Climbing Wall Leading’. BMC Placement: As part of my degree course I opted for a four month placement, alongside Bill Wright looking at Access and Conservation, and technical issues with Andy Fanshawe. International Youth Meet: I was a coordinator (Chaperone!) for Andy Fanshawe on his last BMC International Youth Meet. Lecture Series: I have organised several lecture series, for the general public, and all have been a success. BMC Expert Witness course, October 2005 covering all aspects of being an expert witness in any proceedings relating to Climbing and Outdoor Pursuits. Personal Interests I started rock climbing in 1972. Initially my rock climbing was based in Lancashire and Yorkshire and holiday trips to the Lakes. Since then I have climbed in most areas of the UK up to E5 (on sight) on traditional climbs, and 7b (on sight) on sports routes. My winter climbing started about two years after my rock climbing and I have climbed in Wales, the Lakes & various areas of Scotland up to grade 5 since then. I have climbed in many areas of Europe, from Norway down to Spain mountaineering, skiing, ice climbing and sport climbing. I have had an interest in photography since 1973. Also, I have been involved in accessing rare bird nests so that the chicks may be DNA registered and ringed. .
