THE JOCO MARINE NEWSLETTER-DECEMBER 2018 Issue No. 43

Greetings Fellow Marines, I sincerely hope each and every one of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends. Each of us have so much to be thankful for, and are truly blessed more than we really deserve. During this Thanksgiving season, I can’t help but think of those who are in “Harms” way around the world defending the principles and freedoms we in America enjoy. Take a moment and thank God for those individuals. As I write these comments, November is about to be but a memory as we move into the month of December filled with all the excitement that is ahead. Before we put November behind us, let’s look back at the events of this past month. It was a busy month to say the least. First we finished up our November Belk’s Charity sale fundraiser in which we raised to date about $2500 which was donated to the Disaster Relief fund of the NC Department of the MCL to assist Veterans hurt by hurricanes Florence and Michael in our state. I commend our MCL Department for setting up this fund. After all, that is what we are about. The 29th and 30th of October found us at the VA Hospital in Durham spending time with those Veterans there. That is always rewarding to those of us who attend. We were well represented at the Clayton Harvest Festival on the 3rd. On November 6th, we went to the polls and exercised our right to vote for the candidates of our choice. November 12, found us gathered at SSS High School for the annual Veterans Day celebration. Our Detachment was well represented, and they all knew we were there. Marines do make a difference, and everybody knows it. On the 13th we had our monthly Detachment meeting, and two new members were sworn in. I thank the Detachment for what they have accomplished this past month.

As we enter the month of December and the Christmas season, let us never forget the reason for the season. In lieu of our regular monthly meeting, our Detachment will hold their annual Christmas party on the 11th of December at the Golden Corral restaurant in Smithfield. I hope you will be able to attend. Looking back, I would say that we as a Detachment have had a really good year, and look forward to 2019. Now is the time for all of you to consider candidates for our new slate of Officers to be elected in March. Consider the idea of serving, and becoming more involved in the activities of our MCL. I want to wish each of you and your families a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy and prosperous New Year.
