He reviewed the activities of KVK and suggested ways to improve its functioning towards overall agriculture development of Ernakulam district. Subsequently he visited KVK’s partner-farmer’s fields and cage fish culture sites located in Kadamakkudy and Pizhala. The programme was inaugurated by Kadamakkudy Grama Panchayath president Smt. Valsa Francis at Kadamakkudy and by Pallippuram Grama Panchayath president Smt. Chinnama Darman at Cherai. Live fishes were sold at premium price which avoided middlemen and thus helped the farmers earn more profit. About Pokkali Fish harvest & marketing in progress at Pizhala during the 2000 fish lovers visited the Farm gate markets. Farm Gate Market demonstration ICAR-KVK DEMONSTRATES BIOLOGICAL MANAGEMENT OF AQUATIC WEEDS IN PUBLIC PONDS VK commenced demonstration of aquatic weed management in public ponds by growing Grass Carp K(Ctenopharyngodon idella) fish. This fish feeds on aquatic weeds up to the extent of 2 to 3 times of its body weight and it grows upto 50kg. Since this fish cannot breed in ponds, its management is easy. The programme was inaugurated on 21st July 2015 at Kodamkulam, Thripunithura by Thripunithura Muncipal Chairman Shri. R. Venugopal. ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute Director Dr. A. Fish fingerlings being released for aquatic weed control demonstration in a pond at Kudamkulam, Tripunithura 6 ICAR-KRISHI VIGYAN KENDRA (ERNAKULAM) APRIL - SEPTEMBER 2015 ISSUE No. 16 TASK FORCE FOR SETTING UP KITCHEN GARDENS WITH ICAR- KVK BACKSTOPPING VK has formed a task force for setting up Kkitchen gardens towards organic vegetable production in urban homes in Kochi. Vegetables planted in grow bags and a 100 days schedule indicating crop care and management would be supplied by the task force. They also supply quality organic inputs. As part of this programme,KVK conducted a series of training programmes also at various locations in Kochi Corporation. Total of 350 persons were trained. KVK’s task force member getting growbags ready for installation ICAR-KVK TAKING PART IN PROJECT ON ENHANCING EFFICIENCY OF COCONUT BASED LAND USE SYSTEMS VK is taking part in a multi-institutional project Mukkannur in Ernakulam district.     IEEE Kerala Section Annual Report 2010 Going Global, Staying Local IEEE Kerala Section Harmonieee, Cherian’s Square, Ambuja Vilason Road, Trivandrum -1 Kerala Section Annual Report 2010 PART A - SECTION SUMMARY A.1 Executive Summary 2010 was a year of vibrant activities for Kerala Section, building upon the momentum generated in previous years. Following are the highlights for year 2010: Organized the IEEE R10 GOLD International Conference on Humanitarian Technologies, and supported two other international conferences. Organized National-level Conference on Smart Grid. Preparations are in progress for two international conferences in 2011, with peer reviewed papers to be published in IEEEXplore. Malabar Subsection was formed in 2010 to cater to the northern districts of Kerala, and hence increase the geographic span of Kerala Section. Kochi activities got a major boost by organizing many activities in the area. The society chapters of IEEE Computer Society, IEEE Communications Society, IEEE Power & Energy and the joint chapter of IA/IEL/PEL each had an active year with a number of seminars, lectures and other programs organized by them. The affinity groups of GOLD and WIE were active in the year, organizing programs targeting the young professionals and women engineers respectively. In association with other professional societies such as Institution of Engineers India, Computer Society of India, Project Management Institute and so on, conducted 47 weekly technical talks, on almost every other Wednesday. Actively engaged with other IEEE entities at the HQ, R10, India Council, Societies and other sections. This included representation in R10 EXECOM, international committees of Computer Society and leadership in the Humanitarian Technology Challenge initiative.
