The programme was inaugurated by Kadamakkudy Grama Panchayath president Smt. Valsa Francis at Kadamakkudy and by Pallippuram Grama Panchayath president Smt. Chinnama Darman at Cherai. Live fishes were sold at premium price which avoided middlemen and thus helped the farmers earn more profit. Farm Gate Market demonstration ICAR-KVK DEMONSTRATES BIOLOGICAL MANAGEMENT OF AQUATIC WEEDS IN PUBLIC PONDS VK commenced demonstration of aquatic weed management in public ponds by growing Grass Carp K(Ctenopharyngodon idella) fish. This fish feeds on aquatic weeds up to the extent of 2 to 3 times of its body weight and it grows upto 50kg. Since this fish cannot breed in ponds, its management is easy. The programme was inaugurated on 21st July 2015 at Kodamkulam, Thripunithura by Thripunithura Muncipal Chairman Shri. R. Venugopal. ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute Director Dr. A. Vegetables planted in grow bags and a 100 days schedule indicating crop care and management would be supplied by the task force. They also supply quality organic inputs. As part of this programme,KVK conducted a series of training programmes also at various locations in Kochi Corporation. Total of 350 persons were trained.
