  • Manila Bay 'White Sand' Critics to File Writ of Kalikasan Vs Dolomite Dumping
19 SEPTEMBER 2020, Saturday Headline STRATEGIC September 19, 2020 COMMUNICATION & Editorial Date INITIATIVES Column SERVICE 1 of 2 Opinion Page Feature Article DENR Leads International Coastal Cleanup Day Friday, September 18, 2020 People's Tonight DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) will lead today, Sept. 19, 2020, its yearly coastal cleanup but with no large gatherings and fewer volunteers to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). According to Secretary Roy Cimatu, unlike in previous years, there will be no large gatherings this time at the traditional shoreline and creek sites to prevent the transmission of the virus that has already claimed hundreds of thousand lives and transmission to more than a million others. The Philippines has been an active participant of the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) Day – a global campaign to protect the ocean and its inhabitants. To mark the local observance, Cimatu said there will be lesser attendees composed mostly government employees who will convene along the coast of the historical Manila Bay on Roxas Boulevard. Volunteers have been encouraged to follow the government’s health protocols others were told to conduct clean-at-home efforts by reducing plastic waste. Cimatu stressed that an individual’s duty to keep the shorelines, rivers and waterways clean does not stop even with the pandemic – a task every Juan dela Cruz should take on every single day. The Environment head gave emphasis on proper disposal of coronavirus wastes, such as single-use face masks and gloves, which have become a new form of pollution threatening marine life and ecosystems.

  • ECCLESIAE OCCIDENTALIS MONUMENTA IURIS ANTIQUISSIMA Ed
ECCLESIAE OCCIDENTALIS MONUMENTA IURIS ANTIQUISSIMA ed. C.H. Turner (Oxford, 1899-1939) Index of Names and Selected Words Corrected, revised, and extended 2008 by Philip R. Amidon, S.J. Creighton University [email protected] It has seemed opportune to republish this index in a corrected and extended version; there has been added to the list of names a list of selected words, and the method of referring to the text has been somewhat altered. The exact scope of C.H. Turner’s masterpiece is not immediately apparent from its title or subtitles (Canonum et conciliorum graecorum interpretationes latinae; Canones et concilia graeca ab antiquis interpretibus latine reddita). What one in fact finds here is an edition of the earliest surviving collections of church canons in Latin which are undoubtedly from the fourth century or have been assigned to it by at least some consensus of scholarship; some of them are translations from Greek, while others were originally drafted in Latin itself. Most of them, with the exception of the Apostolic Constitutions and Canons, are attributed to church councils. Turner, however, also offers a selection of doctrinal and historical material of enormous value, some of it indeed connected to the councils whose canons he edits; a comparison, for instance, of the creed contained in the synodical letter of the Council of Sardica with the Tomus Damasi, will suggest how far the doctrinal education of the western church advanced during the course of the fourth century. The connection of other historical matter to the canons is less obvious, however; one wonders what the Athanasian Historia acephala is doing here (granted that it is part of the collection of Theodosius the Deacon), however grateful one is to have the edition.

3rd QUARTER ACCOMPLISHMENT REPORT 2020 (July-September) The ending of the decades-long armed conflict and the attainment of a just and lasting peace through inclusive, enhanced and sustained peace and development efforts in Mindanao, remain as government’s top priorities. The Secretary’s Policy Guidance for FY 2020 was issued covering six (6) major programs under OPAPP: 1) Program 1: Meaningful Implementation of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) toward healing and reconciliation in the Bangsamoro; 2) Program 2: Completion of the Implementation of remaining commitments under the Government of the Philippines (GPH) – Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF); 3) Program 3: Effective implementation of the Whole-of-Nation Approach to address local communist armed conflict pursuant to EO 70 (Localized Peace Engagements); 4) Program 4: Immediate conclusion of the peace process with the RPM-P/RPA/ABB and the CBA-CPLA; 5) Program 5: Social Healing and Peacebuiding/ Programs on Preventing, Countering, and Transforming Violent Extremism; 6) Program 6: Implementation of peace-promoting catch-up socio- economic development in conflict-affected and conflict-vulnerable areas (PAyapa at MAsaganang PamayaNAn). An internal Program 7: General Suport Services (Internal systems and processes) is also targeted for improvement and enhancement by OPAPP. The following presents the accomplishment and status of the Philippine comprehensive peace process for the third quarter of FY 2020, aligning to the two sub-sector outcomes as outlined in the PDP 2017-2022, Chapter 17 on Attaining Just and Lasting Peace: (1) Peace agreements with all internal armed conflict groups successfully negotiated and implemented; and, (2) Communities in conflict-affected and conflict-vulnerable areas protected and developed.

  • Lyrbe/Seleukeia'dan Bereket Boynuzlu İon Başlıkları Ionic Capitals with the Horn of Plenty from Lyrbe/Seleukeia
Anahtar sözcükler: Lyrbe/Seleukeia Agora’sı, İon başlıkları, bereket boynuzu, cornucopia, mimari bezeme Abstract: These capitals which are known to belong to the western stoa section of the Lyrbe/Seleukeia Agora and which form the subject of this research have an extraordinary look due to their form and the horns of plenty carved on their sides although there are examples of capitals with their lateral faces embellished with various figures in antiquity, the great dimensions of the Lyrbe/Seleukeia capitals, without a typological duplicate, seems to have been designed to cover large areas with fewer columns. It is possible that the horns of plenty, which were used on facades as the explict symbol of plentifulness and wealth, were also used on these capitals with a similar intent.

Abstract: The first chapter discusses in detail the main type of Imperial coin age minted by the Pisidian city of Selge. This type is shown to depict the city’s prin cipal sanctu ary of Zeus and Heracles and not a styrax press as Su zanne Amigues recently tried to prove. Though apparently rooted in ancient Anato li an traditions, the sanctuary also served as a ve nue for the rites of the Roman emperorworship and for the festivals of the Epinikia. The second chapter deals with the representation of a myth on an Imperial coin from the small Lycian mountain town of Arneai. The coin depicts a sexual assault by the leche rous god Pan on a fount nymph who wards off the indecent act (gr. arneomai) and was there upon given the name Arne («she who says no»). It is in her eponymic function that the nymph is shown on the coin of this small Lycian town. The local mythical tradition and the concomitant Greek interpre tation of its name conceal the Lycian or Luvian origin of the toponym which in this language more or less means ‹place of fount› and ap tly describes Arneai’s abundance of water. A parallel to the Greek interpretation of the nymph’s name Arne is known from the Arkadian city of Mantineia, where the name of the epo nymous fount nymph was also interpreted as meaning ‹she who says no›.
