On that day, Gassner picked up ~ Boston Doves, 1913 his first Major League win in a 6-4 victory over Cleveland. ~ Boston Braves, 1915-1919 ~ Philadelphia Phillies, 1919-1920 Since the inception of the First-Year Players Draft in 1965, 43 Purdue Boilermakers have been selected in the draft. The first Boilermaker selected was Del Wilbur, an eighth- round pick by the Philadelphia Phillies in 1965. Two Boilermakers have been drafted twice – Dennis Brady in 1966 (Minnesota Twins) and 1967 (Cleveland Indians), and Bob Hallas in 1981 (Seattle Mariners) and 1982 (Oakland A’s). Purdue has had at least one player selected in each of the last eight drafts (1999-2006).

Under the guidance of head coach Doug Schreiber, Purdue baseball has produced 12 MLB draft picks since 1999. Russ Morgan was the first selection during the Schreiber era, drafted by the Houston Astros in 1999. In 2006, Purdue had four players selected, the most among the schools. A Major League team-by-team list of Purdue’s draft picks under Schreiber spans the bottom of these pages. Chadd Blasko was a supplemental first round selection by the Chicago Cubs in 2002, becoming the third Boilermaker to be selected in a first round.
