SEATTLE REIGN FC HOST FAMILY | 2014 SEASON ABOUT THE NWSL FAST FACTS: NWSL • Seattle Reign FC is one of the eight founding members of the NWSL, the National Women’s Soccer League. Teams represent the following cities: Seattle, Portland, Chicago, NJ/NY, Rochester, Washington DC, and Boston. The ninth team, the Houston Dash, joined the League on December 12, 2013. Plans for additional expansion in 2015, the year of the Women’s World Cup in Canada, are already in the works. • The NWSL is the only professional women’s soccer league in North America. It is operated by the US Soccer Federation and supported by both the Canadian and Mexican Soccer Federations. • Pre-season for the 2014 campaign begins March 10, 2014. The league will have a 24 match season (12 home/12 away) which will begin in April 2014. • The league will feature the deepest collection of talent in the world; 95% of the top 50 players in the US, Canada and Mexico play in the league. • The NWSL was built for sustainability with all three Federations committed to subsidizing the salaries of their players, and a modest salary cap of $200,000 for all non-federation players. ABOUT REIGN FC FAST FACTS: NWSL • The Reign FC name was selected to honor the women involved in the Seattle Reign basketball club, the first professional women’s sports franchise in Seattle. • The Reign FC squad is a deep pool of talent featuring National Team players from the US, Canada, Mexico, Wales, and Scotland, as well as local and collegiate stars. • Hope Solo, currently the most recognized face in women’s soccer, will join USWNT teammates Megan Rapinoe, Sydney Leroux, and Stephanie Cox as members of the 2014 Reign FC squad. Solo, Leroux and Rapinoe are considered to be three of the top female players in the world. • Reign FC Head Coach and General Manager Laura Harvey was brought to Seattle from the highly successful Arsenal Ladies program in London. Laura coached Arsenal to three consecutive league championships. • Major offseason signings include that of Scottish midfielder, Kim Little. Little joins Reign FC after six years with Arsenal where she put up record-breaking goal totals. In 2012, Little tallied 25 goals in 23 matches, a feat that earned her Women’s Player of the Year honors from the Professional Footballers’ Association. She has netted a club record 27 goals in just 37 career appearances in European competitions. • The first televised game in NWSL history was filmed here in Seattle on Moda Pitch at the Starfire Sports Complex with Reign FC beating the Washington Spirit, 2-1.
