CLUB MEMBERS - LET US PREPARE… Pope Pope with our flag in the background Francis 6 Months MORE!!!

Let us prepare for the Visit of POPE FRANCIS to Sri Lanka in January 2015. We should reserve our seats early and be there to attend His service and blessing. This is an idea for the Region too. Let us come forward and grab this historical opportunity for us, Y’s Men and Y’s Ladies of the Sri Lanka Region, to see POPE FRANCIS in person.

On 13th March 2013, aged 76, Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio was named the 266th Pope of the Roman Catholic Church, becoming the first from South American to be Pope. He was the first from the Jesuit order too. He loved the name of St. Francis of Assisi.

Prior to taking the election for Pope, he had served as an Archbishop and Cardinal in Argentina for more than 12 years. He was born in Buenos Aires on 17th December 1936 to Italian immigrants. When Pope Francis was a young teenager he underwent surgery to remove a lung due to a severe infection. In 1958 he commenced his priestly training to become a Jesuit. He was ordained a priest in 1969 in Argentina. He was made a Cardinal by the late Pope Blessed John Paul the 2nd .

He is a very simple person who travelled in public transport for 15 years to his Episco- pal Ministries, prior to becoming Pope.
