Fall October 2015 #61 1 FLifty years for Kathie! A newsletter for the employees, families and friends of the Old Frontier Airlines We are FLamily! FALL OCTOBER 2015 #61 Pictured above is the August 24, 1965 Frontier flight attendant class: L-R Sharon Swingler, Colleen Gregg, Mildred Ann Barton, Kathleen O'Connor, Jean Genar, Sandra Hurley, Judy Petrucciani, Ann Percival and Rita Thomas. This past August, 50 years later, Kathie O’Connor Fahrenholz retired as a flight attendant with United Airlines. After Frontier Airline’s bankruptcy in 1986 she continued her career with Continental Airlines until it merged with United Airlines in 2010. Five years later, two months ago, she retired from United with 50 years of service. An incredible feat!. Kathie’s husband Chuck Fahrenholz was Frontier’s LAS sales representative at the bankruptcy. See page 3 2 The FRONTIER NEWS is published quarterly and dedicated to ex-employees, friends, family and fans of the “old” Frontier Airlines which “died” on August 24, 1986 and was “buried” on May 31, 1990. It is a non-profit operation. All income goes into keeping the NEWS going. Opinions expressed in this newsletter are those of the author and not the editor or the publication. Publishing dates are October for Fall, January for Winter, April for Spring and July for Summer. Articles and photos are welcomed and subject to editing and space requirements. We cannot pay for such items but will give credit as appropriate. All submissions should deal with the “old” Frontier Airlines. Especially welcomed are stories of personal experiences with a humorous slant. Special thanks go out to Daryle Holte and Jim Kyte All airline employees have a treasure trove of such for their large donations to the cause. Thanks also to stories. Please share them with the rest of the FLamily. Last updated 10 March 2021 BEECH 18 PRODUCTION LIST Compiled by Geoff Goodall PART 2: BEECH D18S/ D18C & RCAF EXPEDITER Mk.3 (Built at Wichita, Kansas between 1945 and 1957) Beech D18S VH-FIE (A-808) flown by owner Rod Lovell at Mangalore, Victoria in April 1984. Photo by Geoff Goodall The D18S was the first new commercial Beechcraft model at the end of World War II. It began a production run of 1,800 Beech 18 variants for the post-war market (D18S, D18C, E18S, G18S, H18), all built by Beech Aircraft Company at their Wichita Kansas plant. The “S” suffix indicated it was powered by the reliable 450hp P&W Wasp Junior series. The first D18S c/n A-1 was first flown in October 1945 at Beech field, Wichita. On 5 December 1945 the D18S received CAA Approved Type Certificate No.757, the first to be issued to any post-war aircraft. The first delivery of a new model D18S to a customer departed Wichita the following day. From 1947 the D18C model was available as an executive version with more powerful 525hp Continental R-9A radials, also offered as the D18C-T passenger transport approved by CAA for feeder airlines. Beech assigned c/n prefix "A-" to D18S production, and "AA-" to the small number of D18Cs. Total production of the D18S, D18C and Canadian Expediter Mk.3 models was 1,035 aircraft. • The Decade That Terrorists Attacked Not Only the United States on American Soil, but Pilots’ Careers and Livelihoods
The decade that terrorists attacked not only the United States on American soil, but pilots’ careers and livelihoods. To commemorate ALPA’s 80th anniversary, Air Line Pilot features the following special section, which illustrates the challenges, opportunities, and trends of one of the most turbulent decades in the industry’s history. By chronicling moments that forever changed the aviation industry and its pilots, this Decade in Review—while not all-encompassing—reflects on where the Association and the industry are today while reiterating that ALPA’s strength and resilience will serve its members and the profession well in the years to come. June/July 2011 Air Line Pilot 13 The Decade— By the Numbers by John Perkinson, Staff Writer lthough the start of the millennium began with optimism, 2001 and the decade that followed has been infamously called by some “The Lost Decade.” And statistics don’t lie. ALPA’s Economic A and Financial Analysis (E&FA) Department dissected, by the numbers, the last 10 years of the airline industry, putting together a compelling story of inflation, consolidation, and even growth. Putting It in Perspective During the last decade, the average cost of a dozen large Grade A eggs jumped from 91 cents to $1.66, an increase of 82.4 percent. Yet the Air Transport Association (ATA) reports that the average domestic round-trip ticket cost just $1.81 more in 2010 than at the turn of the decade—$316.27 as compared to $314.46 in 2001 (excluding taxes). That’s an increase of just 0.6 percent more.
