Wreath 93 Sokolky, Annalise Romine and Juliana Hoeck From the desk of the Supreme Secretary honored by Culver’s National Coloring Contest Hope and Excitement by Scott T. Pogorelec, F.I.C. What is hope? Hope, in its broadest sense, is described as the desire of something together with the expectation of obtaining it. It is to wish for a particular event that one considers possible. It is an emotion in all of us that breeds optimism and creates a positive envi- ronment to achieve a particular goal or expectation. “May the God of hope fi ll you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” Romans 15:13 I speak of this powerful emotion because I feel it on a daily basis. It is a feeling that can carry you through both the best of times and the worst of times. And this emotion was no stron- ger felt than at our recent Supreme Physical Fit- ness Board Meeting held in Pittsburgh, PA on January 15th-17th. I was fortunate enough to at- tend this meeting, along with our Supreme Pres- ident, Michael J. Horvath, as well as our Honorary Supreme Offi cers, Steven M. Pogorelec, F.I.C. and Larry M. Glugosh. I would like to commend our Supreme Director of Sports and Athletics, James C. Matlon, and the entire Supreme Physical Fitness Board for hosting a well-run and effi cient meeting. The tone of the meeting was one of hope and excitement. Many thoughts and ideas were shared with our wonderful Organization in mind. We are all aware of the challenges set before us, but with drive and determination, we can meet these tasks and our fraternal activities can excel well into the future. But Congratulations to Annalise Romine, age 5, and Juliana Hoeck, age 4, both members of Wreath 93 in simply put, we cannot do it alone. If you are having diffi culty in reaching someone, please contact the Home Offi ce or our Supreme Director of Sports and Athletics, James C. Matlon, and we will gladly point you in the right direction. Our local Assemblies and Wreaths are the heart and soul of our Organization. They are the backbone of our fraternal programs. Active and vibrant lodges are imperative to facilitate inter- est in our fraternal activities and to insure a sound fraternal benefi t society. Please take the time to attend a Lodge or Group meeting and start the dialogue of how we can improve our Society. Finally, with Easter fast approaching, I hope that you have made plans to enjoy the celebration with family and friends. Since it is an opportunity for the gathering of family, why not speak to those who are not members of the Slovak Catholic Sokol about joining our won- derful Society. You all are and will always be our best sales agents. No one knows the benefi ts of this fi ne Organization more than many of you. If you have any questions regarding any of our products, please do not hesitate to call our Home Offi ce and someone will be happy to assist you. The human spirit is strong. It seems to run forever on nothing but a morsel of hope. Without it, you have nothing. With it, nothing else matters. Have a safe and healthy month of March! Zdar Boh!

27th World Youth Day The theme of the 28th World Youth Days, scheduled for Krakow, Po- land in August 2016 is “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for they will receive mercy,” (Matthew 5:7). Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven(Matthew 5:3) and “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God”(Matthew 5:8) are themes for preceding Youth Days, which are go- ing to be organized locally. In 2013 in Rio de Janeiro, Pope Francis said: “Look, read the beatitudes: that will do you good!” He asked the young people to read the beatitudes again and to make them the action plan for their lives. World Youth Days were begun by St. John Paul II in 1986. The fi rst World Youth Day was held in Rome. We have hosted World Youth Days in the United States on two occasions. For information on the 2016 World Youth Day, visit www.worldyouthday.com/krakow-2016. PAGE 8 SLOVAK CATHOLIC FALCON, FEBRUARY 24, 2016
