The decade in general broke borders of all kinds, while discos took the best elements of every subculture of the 1960s - from hippies to drag queens and everything in - and produced something totally new, totally different, and totally inclusive. Disco clothing, as in the '70s, brought distant fashion together as no other movement had. In hot nightclubs, such as Studio 54, Funhouse, and Xenon in New York City or the Palace of Paris, dressing for a disco was a chance to wear your personality, just like a costume. With flashing lights, a disjointed disco, and loud music, the chances of conversation were minimal, so the disco suit had to say it all. Street fashion from 1970, disco style As such, disco clothing was not limited to the dance floor: its elements were drained until the 1970s, street fashion and even workwear. 1970 started on the age of casual, and fashion was never the same. Jeans at work and shorts at night? You have to thank disco! Disco fashion, and 1970s of broader fashion, is notable for its lack of distinction between men and women wear. Certain items tilted in one way or another - not many men in wrap dresses! — but the hairstyles, accessories and general silhouettes were more androgynous than anything the squares saw. Disco fashion in the 1970s was the love child of many formerlysegregated subcultures - breaking boundaries was in his blood. Culture has taken the ethos of the free love of hippies to its most dramatic conclusion, throwing it all together and carrying it with pride. In the late 70s Disco fashion-salopeta, wrap dress, strapless dress and high heels 1970s Women's Disco Disco Clothing Disco Damsel treated in extreme. Her clothes were very loose, very tight, or a little of both. The goal was standing, and occupying the opposite ends of the spectrum was a sure way to do so. In the 17th and 1970s, writes Diana Mankowski of the Ultimate History Project, people wore who stood out to fit in. 1979 dance dresses Perhaps the most famous invention of the decade was the wrapping dress. Innovative Diane von von number swaddled millions of women in stretch jersey. The dress was a trans-cultural hit that appeared at work as well as on the dance floor. [I wore] all the wrapping dresses and skirts made in Qiana. You can't forget that fabric, Elizabeth C. Although my disco days were limited to clubs under 18, it was everywhere. Silky, elastic, oh so '70 fabulous. Several shiny dresses took to the dance floor in the mid to late 1970s, when the metal foil dress took the disco to a high place. It was sexy, but friendly for all ages. Roy Halston Frowick was the main American designer of chiffon dresses that flow into shiny materials that were worn by the stars and copied to the masses around the world. Often, with empire waist, Greek draping, and long foot slits, brought an elegance to the dance floor that was lacking for most of the decade. Disco Dresses Studio 54 , disco dancing in dresses and overalls Despite its popularity, though, women wore pants in record numbers. They paired the bell-ass with the weight-necktops and finished the look with slingback sandals or platform boots. The look was simple, and frankly, it was what most women wore to Disco. You should have been comfortable. The jeans made me feel comfortable, said a disco dancer quoted in Disco Dressing. Hot pants hit the stage in 1970 and soon appeared on both men and women. Some women wore opaque tights underneath, echoing the mini skirt; while others went naked. Up top, boob tubes and plunging necklines were the order of the day - and usually worn braless. The '70s Hot Pants and Tall Boots 1973 gingham tie front shirt and white jeans 1977 Jeans 1978 white disco jumpsuit later in the decade, foreshadowing the 80s fitnesswear madness, baggy bell-bottoms disappeared in favor of skintight bodywear. Both sexes wore leotards, bodysuits, and stretch pants, which soon became emblematic of the club scene. As the silhouettes became slimmer, the hair became more dramatic. Styles like long hair on men and Afros on both sexes, once hallmarks of counterculture, hit discos and mainstream America alike. Stars like Farrah Fawcett popularized feathers hair for women, and men weren't far behind. Shop 70s training clothes and leotards. Thea Cadabra's whimsical drawings included the Dragon – complete with teeth and plumage – and Disco shoes were every bit status symbol. For bianca Jagger's infamous horse race in Studio 54 in 1977, she chose gold leather stilettos from none other than Manolo Blahnik. Men's jumpsuits from 1970 Even traditional silhouettes were touched by the new extravagance. Casual separates and three pieces of recreational costumes have remained popular, but now rendered in daring prints and body-embracing cuts borrowed from the 1960 psychelia. The white suits were matched by plunging necklines and wide lapels. Vanderbilt and Fiorucci's bell-bottom jeans offered a more sedated version, although the shirts were still worn unbuttoned. Fashion History 1960’S – Present Day

Fashion History 1960’s – Present Day 1960’s A-Line The 60‟s opened with the simple A-line dress. Most dresses were very simple and so accessories were both expressive and bold. Some fashion history writers have called this era the “Great masquerade.” 1960’s Eyes were lined with black, shadowed with frosty white, and topped off with a full set of false eyelashes. Lips were painted light to white. Twiggy was the top model. She was long and lean, which was a break from the fleshed Edwardian beauty seen in some form up through the 1950‟s 1960 Everything seemed to go. The length might be mini, micro-mini, midi, or maxi. Even mixing these lengths was fashionable; a mini skirt with a maxi coat or vest. Maxi coats and sweater coats were really practical in cold climates for the mini skirt wearer. The “warbabies” or Baby Boomers, infants born immediately after the war ended in 1945, were maturing. By 1960 teenagers were a powerful group. In France, by the 1960‟s one-third of the population was under the age of 20. In the United States, fully one-half of the population was under 25. This enormous group of energetic young also had their own minds for fashion and were not dictated to by Paris or by anyone else. 1960’s – A-Line The 1960‟s was a time of action, violence, protest, rebellion, experimentation, and counterculture. Dramatic events took place during this decade and dramatic changes in fashion occurred. The 60-70‟s catered to the youth both in advertising and production in the clothing industry.

    Introduction

Introduction ho knew that the 2012 presidential campaign would turn into a 1960s flashback? For many of us, the moment of awaken- Wing was when Republican candidate Rick Santorum seemingly stepped out of a time machine and proclaimed his opposition not just to abortion rights but to birth control as well. The controversy began when columnist Charles Blow rediscovered Santorum’s 2008 speech to the Ox- ford Center for Religion and Public Life in Washington, including this comment the senator made during the question-and-answer period: You’re a liberal or a conservative in America if you think the ’60s were a good thing or not. If the ’60s was a good thing, you’re left. If you think it was a bad thing, you’re right. And the confusing thing for a lot of people that gets a lot of Americans is, when they think of the ’60s, they don’t think of just the sexual revolution. But somehow or other—and they’ve been very, very, clever at doing this—they’ve been able to link, I think absolutely incorrectly, the sexual revolution with civil rights.1 With all due respect to Senator Santorum, I do see connections be- tween the sexual revolution and the civil rights movement, and his com- ments suggest that he does too, even if he believes they have been linked erroneously. In fact I venture to say that many of the issues in today’s culture wars—gay and transgender rights, gender equality, reproductive choice—center on the disputed territory of sexual norms and are argued in terms of civil rights and government authority to dictate morality.
  • Fashion Design

    Fashion Design

Fashion is a general term for a popular style or practice, especially in clothing, footwear, accessories, makeup, body piercing, or furniture. Fashion refers to a distinctive and often habitual trend in the style with which a person dresses, as well as to prevailing styles in behaviour. Fashion also refers to the newest creations of textile designers.[1] The more technical term, costume, has become so linked to the term "fashion" that the use of the former has been relegated to special senses like fancy dress or masquerade wear, while "fashion" means clothing more generally and the study of it. Although aspects of fashion can be feminine or masculine, some trends are androgynous.[2][3] Fashion design Fashion design is the art of the application of design and aesthetics or natural beauty to clothing and accessories. Fashion design is influenced by cultural and social latitudes, and has varied over time and place. Fashion designers work in a number of ways in designing clothing and accessories; and, because of the time required to bring a garment onto the market, must at times anticipate changing consumer tastes. Fashion designers attempt to design clothes which are functional as well as aesthetically pleasing. They must consider who is likely to wear a garment and the situations in which it will be worn. They have a wide range and combinations of materials to work with and a wide range of colors, patterns and styles to choose from. Though most clothing worn for everyday wear falls within a narrow range of conventional styles, unusual garments are usually sought for special occasions, such asevening wear or party dresses.
