Chicago Wolves Game Notes IOWA at CHICAGO NOVEMBER 17, 2018 7 P.M
2018-19 Chicago Wolves Game Notes IOWA AT CHICAGO NOVEMBER 17, 2018 7 p.m. CW50 OUR FIRST LOOK AT THE WILD 2018-19 The Iowa Wild barge into Allstate Arena tonight looking like a franchise hungry to earn its first Calder TALE OF THE TAPE Cup playoff berth since moving from Houston to Des Moines in 2013. The Wild share the Central Division lead in points -- Iowa and the Milwaukee Admirals own 21 apiece -- but new head coach Tim REGULAR-SEASON SERIES 0-0-0-0 Iowa | 0-0-0-0 Chicago Army’s team just shut out the Admirals in back-to-back games. The Wild also boast the AHL’s best power play (27.6 percent) and best penalty kill (89.4 percent). Historically, the Wolves have had their way with the Wild. In the first five years of this rivalry, Chicago has posted a .760 winning percentage against Iowa. That chasm wasn’t apparent last year as the teams split their eight-game series and the Wild actually outscored the Wolves 30-28. 10-4-1-0 8-5-0-1 SO DEPENDABLE The Chicago Wolves rank fifth in the American Hockey League in scoring with 3.93 goals per game LEADING SCORERS -- and one reason for this lofty position is the offense’s consistency. The Wolves are the only team in IOWA CHICAGO the Central Division and one of just five in the AHL (Providence, Rochester, Toronto, San Diego) that Skater G A Pts Skater G A Pts have scored at least 2 goals every time out. -

A Markov Game Model for Valuing Player Actions in Ice Hockey
A Markov Game Model for Valuing Player Actions in Ice Hockey by Kurt Routley B.Sc., Simon Fraser University, 2013 Thesis Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Master of Science in the School of Computing Science Faculty of Applied Sciences c Kurt Routley 2015 SIMON FRASER UNIVERSITY Spring 2015 All rights reserved. APPROVAL Name: Kurt Routley Degree: Master of Science Title: A Markov Game Model for Valuing Player Actions in Ice Hockey Examining Committee: Chair: Dr. James Delgrande Full Professor Dr. Oliver Schulte Senior Supervisor Computing Science, Simon Fraser University Associate Professor Dr. Tim Swartz Supervisor Statistics, Simon Fraser University Full Professor Dr. Anoop Sarkar Internal Examiner Computing Science, Simon Fraser University Associate Professor Date Approved: April 17th, 2015 ii Partial Copyright Licence iii Abstract Evaluating player actions is very important for general managers and coaches in the National Hockey League. Researchers have developed a variety of advanced statistics to assist general managers and coaches in evaluating player actions. These advanced statistics fail to account for the context in which an action occurs or to look ahead to the long-term effects of an action. I apply the Markov Game formalism to play-by-play events recorded in the National Hockey League to develop a novel approach to valuing player actions. -
