Traders in Morpeth are also keen to see more people in their shops and there seems to be a feeling that the town is bursting to be back in business. There are a number of new shops and restaurants around 30 SHARING A GARDEN ‘SECRET’ town ready to join long-established businesses to further demonstrate what a great place Morpeth is to visit and enjoy. Nic became involved in electoral politics when he moved to Morpeth 1989 and, after a few times of asking, was first elected to the Town Council at a by- election in 1997. Elected to Castle Morpeth Borough Council two years later, he has worked at a number of levels for the town and wider area. Despite now being the second largest party on Morpeth Town Council, and quickly establishing itself as the third largest party in English politics, in 1997 the Green Party was still in its infancy. While knocking on doors, many people didn’t distinguish between the Green Party and Greenpeace. It was this that motivated Nic to spread awareness of environmental issues. But that’s exactly what Matt Robson has just done, and all this at a time when the British high street has been facing its greatest ever challenge after being closed down for months on end by the Government as it tried to stop the devastating spread of the coronavirus pandemic. After launching his business in Alnwick last year, Matt has moved down the A1 to open his second shop in Morpeth’s Newgate Street as quite possibly the youngest businessman in town.
