Experiments involving robotic hands, freezing cola drinks, melting chocolate, moldy cheese, the power of exploding Mentos and harvesting wind energy, among others, demanded much of the attention of many Jefferson Middle School students during recent weeks. Since returning to school after Christmas, JMS sixth graders worked to complete science projects and for most, the effort paid off last week, as they presented the findings of their research and experimentation in the JMS Science Fair. Shelley Putnam, sixth grade science teacher, said overall, her students continue to improve their work with each year's fair, as they aim for achieving more at the regional level. Judges viewed the work on Wednesday and the school held a viewing for parents and friends on Thursday evening. The top three winners in each category will attend the regional fair at the University of Southern Mississippi in March.

Judges examined dozens of projects and interviewed finalists to determine the science fair ribbon winners.
