Short Film Contest Rules and Guidelines Rules and Guidelines To submit your film for consideration in the F.A.N. Student Film Contest, please read the following submission guidelines, sign and return this form. All films adhering to the guidelines are eligible for consideration in the Student Film Contest. The judging panel includes Christian filmmakers, faculty, and advisors. All films submitted will be shown in the Family Movie Night Showcase. Not all films submitted will receive a prize. Accepted films later shown to have disregarded or broken submission qualifications forfeit any and all titles or awards bestowed by the contest directors. Number of Entries: A Student or Team can enter up to three films each. A film entry may be by one student, a team of students, or by a class (for example: 10th grade Bible Class, 7th grade History Class, Team Death Ray, etc.). You can make student-produced movies with as many friends as you like. Faith West Academy Film Categories: 1. NARRATIVE – Any movie that tells a fictional story. This category might include such movie types as drama, action, disaster, horror, science fiction, detective, romance, western, or adventure. 2. DOCUMENTARY –- Make a movie about a real-life person, event, your community or culture, personal experience, or even yourself! Reality films are another form of documentary 3. ANIMATION - Including computer animation, hand-drawn, clay-animation, or frame animation. 4. COMMERCIAL – An actual promotion of a real or fictional product or service. Some Ideas: “A DAY IN THE LIFE” OF AN FWA Student, Teacher, Principal, Coach, or Staff member. Like a documentary or reality TV show. It can be funny or dramatic. “MYTHS, LEGENDS AND SECRETS OF FWA” – Are there ghosts in the hall? Make up a good story, myth, or legend about FWA. “WHAT DOES THE EAGLE SAY?” – Be Creative. For information, contact [email protected] Short Film Contest Rules and Guidelines Judging Criteria: Each entry must be the original work of a Faith West Student, Students, or a Class. The work must be the sole creative and executed work of the student(s)- adult supervision is welcome. Use of copyrighted material is prohibited, unless the owner grants permission. Plagiarized entries will be disqualified. Plagiarism is defined as taking and using another person’s ideas, writings, or inventions as one’s own. All entries are judged on: o Interpretation of the selected Category. o Creative merit o Technical merit The student(s) must do all the work. Entries will be judged on how well the student uses his or her artistic vision to portray the theme. Submission Details: 1. Films must be completed and submitted by the deadline date and time. Late submissions will be accepted and shown but will NOT be eligible for awards or prizes. Be Sure To Turn In Your Application, Fee, And Film On Time! 2. Films must be directed, written, and edited only by FWA Students. 3. Films can be between 3 – 4 minutes in length. 4. All Films must be submitted on a usb or dvd. a. If you also upload it to Vimeo or YouTube – write the link on your form. 5. Please format films as .mov QuickTime files or .m4 macrofiles. 6. Remember All Films Must Be Submitted on USB or DVD: 7. Please Place a Label on Your DVD with the following information: a. Your Name b. Your Film’s Title c. Vimeo or YouTube Link 8. All Films must be in the Marked Box in the ETC. Office by the Deadline date and time and be accompanied by the Film Entry Form. 9. Place your form and USB or DVD in a sealed envelope labeled: “TO: F.A.N. For information, contact [email protected] Short Film Contest Rules and Guidelines Use of Other Copyrighted Material: Films may include public places, well-known products, trademarks, or certain other copyrighted material as long as that copyrighted material is incidental to the subject matter. Any background music used in a Film entry must be credited and documented in the credits on the film and on the Student Entry Form, by indicating the title of the music, its composer and its performer(s) in the credits. Tips for Recording: Use a tripod to hold the camera still. Make sure there is plenty of lighting, especially if shooting indoors. Turn off all noise making devices in the room (air conditioners, fans, phones, etc.). Make sure the background music (if any) is audible on the recording. Don’t shake or move the camera too much, it makes the film difficult to watch. GO HAVE FUN & MAKE A FILM!
