TUESDAY, 27 SEPTEMBER, 2016 PEDIGREE INSIGHTS: BRAVE ANNA GOFFS ORBY SALE by Andrew Caulfield STARTS TUESDAY Few fillies= races can boast as rich a history as the G1 Cheveley Park S., first contested in 1870. Its long list of winners features plenty of fillies which were to make a huge impact, either on the track or as foundation mares, but none more illustrious than Pretty Polly and Sceptre, the winners respectively in 1903 and 1908. Sceptre went on to win the further top flight 2000 Guineas, 1000 Guineas, Oaks and St Leger, while Pretty Polly took the 1000 Guineas, Oaks and St Leger before establishing a highly effective female line. No-one expects a modern-day Cheveley Park winner to make an impact in the longer classics, or indeed against the colts, but it is still a hard race to win, as Aidan O=Brien wryly commented after landing the race for the first time in the 21 years he has been training the Ballydoyle horses. The grounds of appeal as set out in the Notice of Appeal are that: "The Rateable Valuation is excessive, inequitable and bad in law." 2 The Property: The property is situated at Punchestown Race Course located about 2½ miles south of Naas and 22 miles south west of Dublin. The property comprises the Grandstand, covered and opened stands, bars and restaurants, weighroom and jockey's changing rooms, parade ring, ambulance rooms, offices, toilets, entrance stiles, 104 stables, various stores and tarmacked and hardcore circulation areas and grounds. These buildings are grouped together on a site of about 2½ acres at the western end of the track adjoining the carparks. The principal building is the Grandstand constructed in 1980 at a cost of £750,000 which replaced the original structure which was demolished. Apart from this building and a new ambulance room and toilets in the carpark, the other buildings date from around 1970 and the balance pre-date these by some years.

  • Take Two for Air Force Blue Cont
FRIDAY, 20 MAY, 2016 HOLLINDALE REMATCH IN DOOMBEN CUP TAKE TWO FOR Saturday=s G1 Hardy Brothers Doomben Cup shapes up as AIR FORCE BLUE somewhat of a rematch of the Gold Coast=s G2 A.D. Hollindale S., with most of the leading contenders here exiting that 1800- metre contest May 7. Leebaz (NZ) (Zabeel {NZ}) won the Hollindale for the second straight year, rebounding from a 13th- place finish in the G1 Queen Elizabeth S. at The Championships, which came on the back of a win in Caulfield=s G3 Easter Cup over this trip. The Team Hawkes-trained Leebaz finished second in this two years ago, but beat just one home last year after leading early. Godolphin=s Hauraki (Aus) (Reset {Aus}) was second in the Hollindale and has been consistent all season, hitting the board in all but one of five tries, including twice in Group 1 company, but he has not won for over a year and needs to prove once again that he wants to get his head in front. Cont. in Worldwide News p9 Air Force Blue will attempt to reverse his G1 QIPCO 2000 Guineas flop IN TDN AMERICA TODAY in Saturday=s G1 Tattersalls Irish 2000 Guineas | Racing Post PEGASUS WORLD CUP OVERSUBSCRIBES During a Thursday morning press conference at Pimlico, officials Those unable to believe that Air Force Blue (War Front) can from The Stronach Group announced that the $12-million bounce back from such a tame effort in the G1 2000 Guineas Pegasus World Cup has attracted an overflow number of entries.
